This is probably a very simple and stupid question, and I should probably know the answer already, but I don't.

Can you add a 35th civ to the game, or do you have to ditch a civ to add a civ?

I know there are plenty of "add a civ" mods to the game, but are those true additions or are they addition through subtraction (ie: deleting a civ to add a new one)?

Yeah, I should know the answer, but I don't, so a quick knowledgeable answer would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

There could be 200 civs to choose from, but the max number in a game is set by the dll that is being used, and sometimes the map as well due to available real estate.
Well, I know about in-game limitations... I'm using Lt Bob's 40-civ DLL... my main question is can I have/create a 35th civ without having to ditch one of the original 34 civs... I suppose your answer is then a YES, you can add a 35th civ!

I think there was some problem reaching 128 or 256 civs, else than that it should work :).

Yeah, you need not erase any, just add - but I'd remove the Holy Roman Empire anyway! ;)
Concur on all counts (stupid HRE)... and I don't think I have to worry about accidentally reaching 128 civs either.

The biggest problem now would be unique civ border/team colors. If any two are the same, one of them will "freak out" and become a differant random color! For instance... already too many nations want to be "red".

Hi, I have a related question.

If I download a civ or (pending far better modding skills on my part) create one of my own, do I have to load it as a mod in order to play that civ, or is it possible to add it to the list of civs played in Vanilla?

For Vanilla + Warlords the civs are all in 1 file. Most (if not all?) civs you download will already be merged, however if you wanted > 1 new civ you'd have to do the merging.

A civ usually consists of a civ + a leader + a new color + a new building + a UU, so there are a number of files to edit. Just download some diff program to see what changes were made for the new civ that was downloaded.
