Ea's just announced the Sims 4: http://www.ea.com/news/maxis-unveils-the-sims-4

According to some of the gaming news sites, it will be single player and offline, so that's one good thing.

On the other hand, I do not look forward to 1835701835703185 expansions, most of which should have been in the original game, after I wasted quite a lot of money buying half of Sims 3's expansions even though it was all at half off or more. Not to mention they're still working on at least two expansion packs for Sims 3 this year.

Still, I'll be falsely optimistic and hope the new Sims will have something interesting to offer when I can find it on sale.

EDIT:

Here's the official website: http://thesims.com/en_US/thesims4

It will be interesting to see what was learnt from Sim City.

Maybe this time the sims won't have a touch of downs syndrome in their faces.

I am sure they will offer numerous game improvements as well as include the same features added by the expansion for each of the previous three games and make your sims much more time efficient (1 second = 1 minute doesn't work very well).

Also pigs will fly, and all bad things on Earth will be fixed.

You never know. Maybe, just maybe, they'll make that the big new change. Like how aging was for 2 and the neighborhood was for 3.

Then again, EA.

It's going to be a single player game (although it has an optional online component), that's the first thing they announced.

The sims 3 (base game) is a really good game imo. I hope the 4th installment doesn't have to let you build on a grid, curved walls would also be nice.

I'd love to play The Sims, but after 2 (and a few expansions), I never bought anything Sims. The DLC model is outrageous. I'm the "everything or nothing" kindda guy, and when it comes to The Sims, there's no way to get everything even YEARS after release; even when heavily discounted years after, the multiplication of DLC still totals gazillions of dollars. Soooo yeah... No money from me.

I really did like Sims 1, 2, and 3. The problem is just the DLC. Two expansions a year now for Sims 3. It is when they started adding more and more that I realize there seriously is not enough TIME to do everything since an in-game hour is a real life minute. I can't begin to get into the game if it takes me an hour to make cereal.

The expansions are pricey, but it doesn't seem too different from the game on Steam that, altogether, now costs over a thousand dollars. I figured it is like that. If you're really into it and willing to fork over the cash, you'll get all the x-packs. If not, just the ones you want. Unlike Call of Duty, it doesn't feel like you're forced to get stuff in order to actually play the game.

Still, I will wait until release and then some to see how the game is.

Anybody want to start predicting what DLC/expansion packs they'll have?

I'll start:

  • World travel
  • University
  • Magic/supernatural
  • Night life

Ikea Stuff
Nissan Leaf Stuff
Crest Toothpaste Stuff

I wish they would just bag this stuff and work on fixing sim city and/or a spore remake.

I don't think anybody wants EA to attempt Spore again.

I don't think my poor heart could take the disappointment again...

Interesting, though I'm personally still waiting until they release a complete version of The Sims 2. Had quite a bit of fun with the original (and several, though not all, of its expansions) back in the day, but I haven't played it much in years. Certainly a good sign that it's offline.

Did they make the 1 second = 1 minute the only speed in The Sims 3 or somewhere along the line? That was what it was at Turtle speed in the original, but you also had Llama and Cheetah speeds that were a lot faster.
