Skaven development thread

Re: the ratling gun

Yes, your guess was correct. The "front" rat just kinda points the thing in the direction of something he hopes is the enemy, while the one in back runs the crank.

It always struck me as kindof strange why this needed to be a crew served weapon, since if you look at the actual pewter figs for them, one rat could probably handle it on his own if only the skaven could discover the miracle known as the "shoulder sling" for all thier bizzare firearms ;-)

I still think the unit looks great, and will be a fine addition to the skaven arsenal! :goodjob:

But it's just a Skaven name for a gatling gun. And that means that it does need to have one rat exclusivly feeding it ammo. But I'm not gonna whine. I rather have it as it looks now than no ratling gun at all. The animation as is I think looks very cool indeed.

I just worked out that when (if :D) i finish all the units i've got in progress (Slaverat, Warpfire Thrower, Ratling Gun, possibly Grey Seer...) and odin finishes his, we'll have ten or eleven Skaven units. I also worked out that the Amazons in WH 2.0 have only ten units, so I think we're looking good for WH 2.2

Just found an upgrade for the Doomwheel: the Rat Tank. Check out a pic in the 4th post on pg 1

That shouldn't be too hard to put together once the doomwheels done. It's just an dwarven/empire tank, (allready made) infront of two doomwheels.

We talked about ships a while ago, and already have the Doombringer, Deathburner and Warp-Raider, but i thought (if it is not being used by another race) the Orthanc's Paddle Barrel could be used.

Possible civpedia entry:

Unusually sophisticated for the Skaven, the Paddle Barrel is a complex system of cogs and gears encased in a solid hull. The paddles are driven by a team of Giant Rats that are made to run in a huge rat wheel. Being low to the water line, it is harder to spot and difficult to hit. Although the Paddle Barrel is slow, the powerful Warpgun attached to the bow enables the vessel to stand up against most adversaries.

And y'know how the Lizardmen have the giant turtle as a living ship, i thought it would be cool if the skaven bred giant water rats and fixed a similar platform to its back for the troops to stand on. problem is finding a unit creator to do it...

A great Idea, it's just that the Paddle barrel does look extremly dwarven, doesn't it? Needs to be a bit dirtyier, preffereably rusted metal. But again, that's all just details. I'd rather see them having them than getting all wound up about estetic problems.

@LizardmenRule!:
I applaud you for not throwing in the towel and giving up when everyone else seems to - keep up the good work :cool:

Well, sadly, I haven't made much progress, :(. I've been really busy. So far I've been blackening and pasting the heads on the run storyboard. I should be finished with the Stormvermin in about a week or two.

edit: hey LM, could you PM me your email address so i can send you the unshadowed skaven?

What do people think of this as a giant rat (keep in mind the mutating nature of warpstone ;))

It is from the Wasteworld thread, but is not released yet. Flamescreen wants to release it in the second quarter of 2006, so i guess we'll have to wait til then
