I've done a fresh install of the latest BTS 319 on a brand new 4GIG duo computer with a 9600 series graphics card on Vista x32 home.

Has anyone got any idea why I am getting a 15 second lockup of this computer accessing any of the advisor screens? After the 15 seconds it works fine. This also includes movie and diplomacy popups but not event popups. The rest of the game works sweet, including unit animations, map zooming and panning.

If I install BUG, the lockup is still there except for the domestic advisor screen which displays almost instantly! :crazyeye: The problem is only in BTS and not in the original Civ4 game.

It's the first installation I have ever seen it on and is not dependent on BTS 319 to occur but does also occur on BTS 317. It looks like sometimes BTS performance degrades with quicker computers!

It would be interesting if anyone has some ideas.
Cheers.

Hello glider1, God of RevDCM.

I can say that I haven't had this issue in a long time, and my specs aren't that much different than yours. I've patched both my 64 bit Vista desktop (quad), and my 32 bit Vista laptop (dual core) to 3.19, and I have had zero problems.

I did have this problem with my laptop when it was just new and only had 1 GB RAM. This was with 3.17, and I had the leaderhead stalling and advisor screen wait that you're having. I upgraded the RAM and the problem went away.

With 32 bit, your machine can't see all 4 Gig. It's just like the memory allocation in XP, except that Vista chews up more of it for itself. You could try turning everything off in the system tray, and anything non-essential, (including Aero temporarily), and see if that helps. Ori has a little memory fix somewhere on the forums that will set Vista 32 to the /3 gb switch equivalent that XP can use, but I can't remember where it is. It might be in the MAF allocation thread. It helped me with this as well.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately it did not make a difference. It is perculiar that out of all the adviser screens, the domestic advisor comes up almost instantly from turn 1, yet all the other advisor screens lock the process 100% for 15 seconds and then come up fine.
Cheers.

Hi, I am having exactly the same issue :(

My specs are also near identical to yours; 2.6 Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 9600 GT. I should also note my computer is a laptop; a HP Pavilion T (something).

The game runs great, however when it comes to any adviser screens or when the AI diplomacy screen is displayed, there's about a 10 second wait until it shows.. when it does show, its fine.

Haven't been able to find a solution yet :(

Very annoying.

EDIT: I've found a solution!!! Turn your movie quality graphic setting to medium.

Fixed it for me! Good luck

You little beauty!

I shake my head well done. :goodjob: I had a feeling it was related to a graphics problem of some kind and it is now obvious that our 9600 card drivers do not talk to the bts engine in a way that it wants to be talked to. Turning down the movie quality to medium in the options tab under graphics, disables the underlying rendering of the screen behind the advisor so that we just see black. This is not a big disadvantage and is actually somewhat of an advantage, because the advisor screens come up super quick now almost instantly.

Suspect we may have to update the video drivers?
EDIT: I'm running a laptop as well, a toshiba. Perhaps it is a problem with the laptop version of the 9600 driver?

Cheers.
