Snoopy's Terrain Graphics Modpack for Conquests

Snoopy's Terrain Graphics v4.5 for Civ3 Conquests (C3C) 2016-10-05

so cut and paste the snoopy files into the art files and then deleting the original files?

(Sorry, I am really bad at using computer programs. )

It will just overwrite the existing files it is replacing, you don't need to delete anything.

Make a backup copy of the ART folder first incase you mess it up so you can replace it.

OH crud! :wallbash: I forgot to backup original...

Does anyone have city files I can have, I like the old city versions better...

reinstall time...but seriously, Snoopy's cities are way better.

The art folder is very big. It would be nice to be able to back up all relavent files and not just the whole 289mb art file. Really squeezing in room on my hdd. So what files exactly do I need to back up? Is there a easy way to restore other then simply reinstalling?

It would be nice if snoopies farm graphics were based on the land below it. With the patchwork farm graphics in replace of water irrigation lines, makes it hard to tell whats beneath it.

Speaking of, how might a pick and choose which of the graphics I wish to use? It would be nice to be able to mix and match the stuff I like from different graphic mods.
Take this one for example.. love the look of the grass. But certainly don't like the way the mountains look for example--->

Also, the snoopy volcanoes should be a little easier to spot. While a simple hole in a mountain might be more realistic, it could easily be over looked while placing a town etc. Perhaps smoke out the top?

Unpack snoopys files someplace safe and look at what is included. It should then be obvious which folders need to be backed up

Mixing and matching is possible once you know which files are for which terrain. Again, study the files included in the mods. It helps if you have a program that at least can view a .pcx file.

What programs view pcx? Some of these files have names that don't tell you what they are.

What do you think of volcanoes with coming out of them? It will help with the effect and to more easily spot and be forewarned of volcanoes as well imo. I would really appreciate it if someone were to do that please :)

Most popular graphics editing software will view .pcx files. It's a standard graphics format.

The terrain is just static graphics images. There's no way for a mod to make smoke come out of volcanos unless it too is a part of the static image. What you need is to mix mods so that the volcanos look different or keep the oem volcano file.

Use the Original Equipment Manufacturer image? hehe

Static smoke would be fine and better then none at all, though animated would be cool. If I use the original volcano image, it will look out of place with the others.

What about making the mode match the effects of irrigation to whats underneath? The ones now more just blanket everything in patchwork quilt sameness.

I personally use snoopy's with CCJ39 irrigation. His irrigation lets you tell what the terrain is and looks similar to the image you linked to. There are also lots of other irrigation graphics you can use. Even using the oem irrigation is an option. Experiment till you get something you like. Downloading an irrigation only mod will let you see the files involved.

I can't say as i've seen any volcanos that look like they are smoking. The game itself has an animation that makes them spit fire and smoke for a couple turns so i guess nobody ever thought about static smoke. I've never had any trouble telling the volcanos apart from the mountains and i've always used snoopy's except for a few mods that come with thier own terrain set.

If you start getting into trying graphics mods, you might want to start freeing up space on your hard drive. You have backups, the downloaded compressed files, and the expanded files using up space. I only mention it because you were concerned about backing up the whole ART folder.

I have been working on a combined graphics mod for a while, which will incorporate a number of the ones available here. It takes a while because I have to do it in my spare time, and I have to compare how the various parts mesh together for the look I want to achieve.

You can create a folder and biq file in the Conquests Scenarios folder, name them both exactly the same name. For example, I have a PtC4b.biq and a PtC4b folder in the Conquests Scenarios folder. That was the easy part.

If you know which sub-folders you need, you could create them in your new folder. For example, create an Art folder, with a Terrain sub-folder inside it if you are only planning on changing the files within the Terrain folder.

Since I wasn't sure which things I would change for my graphics mod, I copy/pasted the entire Civ3 Art and Text folders into my PtC4b folder; if needed, I would also copy the Sounds folder from Civ3. I chose this option as I planned on using both terrain and various interfaces mods (city screen, advisor, etc.) and this was easier for me than trying to making sure I had created all of the necessary sub-folders in the Art folder. At this point, you could delete all of the non-folder files from the new scenario folder if you wanted to (in my case, the PtC4b folder); this will probably save some headaches later, but it may increase the amount of time it takes to copy stuff if you are using a large number of different mods. Next, I downloaded all of the graphics mods from CivFanatics that I was thinking of using; I saved them in a separate folder. I am currently going through the different ones to pick the pieces I want from each one.

The main problem you may run into when you use several graphics mods combined is things not matching up, or not looking good together. In some cases, the different mods may use the same files and you have to choose which one you want.

Jasc Paintshop Pro I think will read PCX....but I use GIMP for pcx editing

Looks like someone ate a box of crayons and threw up

Snoopy Terrain Graphics Modpack v4.5 for Civ3 Conquests (C3C)

Created by: Daniel (aka Sn00py, Icedan) Knowles
Greener version created by Thunderfall

snoopy45csm.jpg

----------------- README -----------------

This modpack changes the terrain graphics to be more detailed and easier to identify. It contains new graphics for irrigation, rocky mountain & hills, new rivers, distinct looking forests and jungles, deep blue (or greener) water, greener grassland, raised land, improved city graphics, and more. The rules have not been changed.

What's new in this version:

* Includes the new graphics for volcanos and marsh terrains.

* resources.pcx updated to include the four new C3C resources (sugar, tropical fruit, tobacco, and oasis).

* Includes the new grassland forests graphics made by snoopy. The normal grassland forests file from previous version of snoopy is also included in the zip. If you prefer to use the old grassland forests instead, simply rename the "grassland forests.pcx" to "grassland forests (new).pcx" then rename the "grassland forests (normal).pcx" file to "grassland forests.pcx".

* There is now a separate version with greener water (GW), in addition to the standard deep blue water version. Each version also has a greener edition.

2) Copy or Move them to the Civ3 Conquests "Scenario" folder, which is located at "C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios" by default. That's all!

3) To play Civ3 using the Snoopy terrain graphics you just installed, on the Civ3 Conquests main menu screen select "Civ Content" and load the snoopy terrain modpack from the list.
