So are animations enabled for multiplayer yet?

I pre-ordered multiple copies of Civ5 for my family and girlfriend a long whiles back, but I haven't tried to get most of them into the game yet because animations were disabled in multiplayer, and I know for a fact that they'll hardly be able to understand what's going on/how to play the game as a result (they're only interested in playing with me, not solo). Also, I haven't been very interested in playing as a result, either.

So I ask, are animations enabled for multiplayer yet?

Nope.

I don't think they will include animations. I don't see how this can be implemented with the actual statement of mp codification. If between turns and in turns are faster, well maybe.

It's just action figures! When your guy bumps into the other guy and stands in his space that means he's won. Any 6 year old could figure that part out! ;D As for the rest of the game though... I hope your girlfriend fares better than mine, lol.

Multiplayer animations and leaderheads are the only thing I care about. I also hate how AI leaders never contact me in multiplayer. It doesn't make the game any faster. In fact, I think it makes my turns longer because I have to pay closer to attention to where units move because its disorienting when they teleport around, especially other teams' units. I can't tell which direction a unit went if he runs away, which is especially bad when fighting things like destroyers. The positives and aesthetic value of animations far outweigh the negatives. Either way, it should be an option like it was in previous Civs.

Amen!

Good points.

This is what I'm hating about Civ V. Multiplayer with friends was my favorite part about Civ IV. Civ V's multiplayer just sucks right now because much of the fun has been disabled from it.

If aesthetics is what make fun for you i can understand your frustration. Most recent games who offer multiplayer experience can do a well better job in that sense. For myself i don't really bother about animations and stuff but game speed must be enhanced somewhere imo.

Hi Tabarnak,

Yeah aesthetics make it more fun for me; I'd say that contributes a lot to my enjoying the new game on single player mode, but even with Civ 4, when animation for battles was disabled, you would at least get to see your troops move. Also, not being able to see the other leaders makes it fairly lame. It ends up being way too abstract. Though I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary, it sure adds a lot of fun to it all. I think it's the graphics of the new one that is the one attribute that's obviously better than Civ 4.

STILL no animation? Me and the lady were thinking of coming back to this game...are there at least any multiplayer animation mods out there, does anyone know?

Can we stop asking for animations in MP? I take that back the only time they are useful is if you are on say a LAN game with people you know? Otherwise it just causes delays in the ation of the game a la Civ 4 animations on.

Tell you what. When they add MP animations we will stop asking for them.

Thank you for this thread. I rarely play an MP game (Work, family, time zones). I dropped into the MP forum just to see what was going on and ya'll may have helped me solve a problem. I want to be able to turn off unit animations in SP. Looking under the hood for a solution hasn't been very helpful so far. That the animations are turned off by default in MP gives me something new to investigate.
