Mechanics that are the same:
resource: food, production, energy
Expo-cap: unhappiness -> health
trade
border
culture "powerup" i.e. virtues
city states now magically become random trade center, how did they get here from earth btw?
barbarians
1unit-per-tile
New Mechanics:
tech web (ripped from endless space lol)
make-your-own-civ/column-a-column-b (which is a mainstay of 4x since the beginning of computers)
affinity (random lvl up stat)
bad design choice:
why does the chinese faction speak chinese? don't they learn english in school in 2214? or did they just ported the system from civ5 (which made sense cuz civilisations) without thinking?
magical solution which doesn't make sense like health. how does having more cities make other cities unhealthy?
satellite doesnt even orbit. should just call it balloon.
separating unit strength from technological advance. by some strange reason, when you decide to put a few trees in your park, the soldiers in the field through some planetary mind link become stronger and gain abilities. lol. which is really a hack to fix the problem that the non-linearity of the web brings to the game. alas, they didn't actually play endless space and find out how they made the the tech web work with unit strength there.
miasma. WTH? this makes no sense. obviously they want something like fungus from AC that would make the land 'alien zone' but ofc that wouldn't work with what they got so alien fart it is.
that's all i could think of. I know that criticism of the game is frowned upon by the fanboys here but these are legitimate issues with the game, namely that they have resorted to releasing reskin every year or so to milk the cash cow like Call of Duty. It's a sad state but only another paint that makes a picture. if a big company get a big title out, they will just release reskin of said title every year to cash in.
I will probably play the game just so I will know how much of a reskin it really is (i expect 80%+)

This OP reads more like you're looking for a soapbox than a discussion, and you've pre-emptively derided the 'fanboys' who will disagree with you. Please ensure your posts are more polite and conducive for civil and productive discussion.
- This is a discussion forum, and threads must therefore allow for discussion. Although negative opinions are allowed, threads that are simply complaints, without any question being posed for discussion, are not. In general, this means that an opening post should contain a non-rhetorical question. The presence of discussion does not absolve the thread creator if this discussion has arisen despite their opening post. Remember that starting a thread is an opportunity to converse with other members about an issue, and not to provide yourself with a soapbox from which to declare your thoughts, without any desire to hear the opinions of others.
- Deriding others through the use of terms such as 'hater', 'fanboy', or 'Steam Sunshine Squad', or accusing another member of being a shill for 2K or Firaxis, is not acceptable.
