So fine, I lose, again...

Lilith,
Ur funny, you say that MEN are the ones who wrap clubs around trees and kick the dog when they lose, but that's wrong. Sore Losers do that, not men. By breaking the disk in half becuase you couldn't win at what ever level you were playing at is just plain juvinial. Maybe you should take a deep breath and try and understand that you will never win an argument with a computer. By complaining that it is too hard, or that the outcome is not a possible, but an already writen shows that either your pessimistic, or you are trying to play the game on a level that you have not the skill to play. Sure, I could start a game on Deity on a tiny world with one opponent, and I could win, that doesn't mean that I could play a Deity game on a standard or huge map with eight or sixteen opponents. Each option that you select or change can make the game harder, or easier. I personally love the fact that Civ 3 can beat me. I don't loose that much, but I like the possibility that if I step up a notch in level, or if the computer gets an edge that I might lose that game. I don't go screaming away from the computer, complaining how I am wasting my life becuase I am trying to win at deity with sixteen civs and am surprised by the fact that I get my butt kicked.

so, take a chill pill, and learn to win inside of the given peramiters or make your own in which you will enjoy playing in.

peace

Are you suggesting every football player you've seen throw his helmet in disgust, or every baseball player who yells at an umpire because they didn't like a call is a sore loser? No, they're pissed. OK, they might be sore losers, but you can't be certain of that. Unless you know them personally, of course.

Obviously, you hadn't read my posts very carefully. I didn't break the disk because I couldn't win at any given level. I was frustrated, and started thinking "Why do I waste me time playing this game if I'm not enjoying it?" I broke the disk so I couldn't play the game any longer and I'd quit wasting time on it. It got to be such a habit that every time the clock gets around to 6:00 p.m. I think "It's time to play civ". Every day. That's bad. I knew I couldn't just put it on a shelf and not look at it, more drastic action was called for.

Maybe you should take a deep breath and try and understand that you will never win an argument with a computer.

I program computers - duh.

that doesn't mean that I could play a Deity game on a standard or huge map with eight or sixteen opponents. Each option that you select or change can make the game harder, or easier.

Actually, if the computer traded techs as freely with you as it does the AI players, you probably could play on Deity with 16 players on a huge map and win, occasionally...

I don't go screaming away from the computer,

Who said anything about screaming? I sighed, and sat there a good give minutes thinking it over first.

complaining how I am wasting my life

But I was wasting my life. Even if I'd been winning I was wasting my life. There were other things I should have been doing, and I'll be doing them now. I won't be sitting here at midnight thinking "Oh well, lost again, time for bed." I'll be practicing guitar, or reading a book, or being out with friends...

learn to win inside of the given peramiters

And if a person decides "This just isn't worth it"?

then read the rest of my post, or quit. If you wanted to do other things, then go for it, but obviously, you don't, otherwise you would have gotten rid of the disk, and left it at that, not come here and post about how messed up the game is. I can belive that you needed to do other things instead of play civ, but what you said when you posted here was that of someone complaining that they couldn't win at a high level. And about the AI trading techs, so what, the computer trades techs, would you trade techs with your friends if you were in a multi player game more than some new person?? Becuase if you think about it, the computer knows that those other civs aren't going to up and attack them for no good reason like a human player will. Think about it. and if you program computers, then you should understand this, and not be as frustrated with computers as you seem to be.

actually, yes. I played football, and I played baseball, I never threw my helmet in disgust or argued with an umpire. I may have dissagreed with the call, and there is room in any game for that, but if you feel the need to brake your golf clubs or your equipment becuase you missed the putt, or you didn't make the first down, then yes, you lose poorly, and are hence a sore loser.

It seems that you have many problems adimitting your falts, sylith. You get frustrated and destroy a 50 dollar game, after thinking long and hard for 5 whole minutes. Btw why do you hate men so much, you seem to pick on them a lot. Your example about football players was not well thought out(I don't feel like quoting it) maybe if there were more large scale female sports than bastketball and golf yopu would notice that women can be just as bad at being poor sports. Finally could you take out your anger somwhere else I already get enough of that at school i don't need it here.

Good bye, don't come back please.

As if I'm the only person whose ever posted on this board expressing their dissatisfaction with the game!

posted here was that of someone complaining that they couldn't win at a high level.

And if you look at my very first post you'll see I said I was wasting my life, and I did something about it.

You don't know my gamer friends.

Are you stoned?

and not be as frustrated with computers as you seem to be.

If I program computers? I don't get frustrated with computers, very often anyway. I get frustrated with sloppy programming - not a complaint with Civ III by the way, I think it was technically a very impressive achievement - and bad games. Well, bad movies too, and bad music... Civ III is, in my opinion, a bad game. If you see a horrible movie, wouldn't you advise people not to waste two hours of their life on it? My regret is that I wasted far more than two hours of my life on this game because I had such fond memories of Civ I.

Like what? That I was addicted to something I wasn't enjoying and I had to destroy it to free myself? Sounds to me like I was admitting a fault there, like being addicted to a mere game.

You get frustrated and destroy a 50 dollar game, after thinking long and hard for 5 whole minutes.

Like fifty bucks is a lot of money?! My rent's $1300 a month. What's $50?! That's dinner for two in a lot of places in LA. How carefully do you think over spending money on a dinner for two somewhere? How carefully do you think about spending an hours' wages on something?

Btw why do you hate men so much, you seem to pick on them a lot.

I don't hate men. When someone said that I was "stupid" for destroying $50 of my own property, I pointed out that that is not stupid, at least compared to the stupidity of WWI. You're getting too defensive. Besides, I wasn't entirely serious about the man-bashing, as only one person seems to have figured out. And what is stupid about getting rid of the thing you're addicted to so the temptation is not there?

Your example about football players was not well thought out
(I don't feel like quoting it)

Oooh, I'm SO hurt - not...

Finally could you take out your anger somwhere else I already get enough of that at school i don't need it here.

You think school is hard, wait until you get out in the working world.

Good bye, don't come back please.

Now I'm tempted to keep coming back just to annoy you. Don't worry, I won't. You're not worth it.

I forgot to metion this in my post but you could have played less, like once a week, instead of destroying the cd. Thats what i do when i get burnt out on civ.

Unforutnately I can't do that, I obsess. Whether it's my latest program, a game, guitar, I obsess on everything I do. Moderation is not in me.

You say CivIII is a bad game, yet you were ADDICTED to it. Addictions are usually bad, of course, but it must be fun or giving you some sort of pleasure if you got addicted to it. If something gives you pleasure, but after time you no longer get pleasure or enjoyment from doing it, and continue doing it anyway, it's usually considered an addiction.

Sylith realized she was addicted and did what it took to 'cure' her from the addiction. There are probably people here who are addicted to Civ3, and do need to spend some time away from it and get back to real life. But most people already know how to keep the amount of time playing Civ3 in moderation and not have to resort to totally abandoning the game.

Sylith, not everyone here is addicted, and even the addicts won't admit their addiction (addicts never do). So, you are preaching to a deaf audience. You are free, go out and do the things you wanted to do (reading a book, playing a guitar) and stop wasting your time here.

YES, SOMEONE GOT IT. I NEED TO VENT AND SOMEONE UNDERSTOOD ME. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

THIS IS MY LAST POST.

Lilith

Thanks again, I'm glad somebody understood me. I feel better. Really, I do...

Sylith,
Don't you hate it when you say it's your last post for the third time and then someone asks you a question? You posted more than anybody today--after you said it was your last post. Also, it would suck to live in Los Angeles AND not surf. I can't think of any redeeming qualities in that place, though I guess it's better than the 909.

... Come on, Moo2 was fun, remember how allies you'd had the whole game WOULDN'T suddenly turn on when you started to dominate the universe, that they'd actually VOTE FOR YOU in the grand poobah election (whatever they called it) to win a diplomatic victory. Gosh, that was refreshing. A computer AI who'd make a treaty to be your buddy, and actually HONOR it??? I may give Moo3 a chance, if it's not made by the same programming team. I belive it is however, isn't it?...

I agree with you for the most part. CivIII limits player styles, unlike CivI and II. On the whole, I find the entire CivIII experience mechanical and unenjoyable.

MOOII AI isn't all that great... lots of complaints from the MOO3 development forum.

MOOIII is developed by QSI, not Firaxis, but Infogrammes is still the big boss. :) I really hope that MOOIII will turn up better as a sequel than CivIII.

Sylith, I don't know if you're still checking out this thread, but I just had to say congrats. I too dumped Civ 3 a while back (but kept the CD, ) and ended up spending more time on my golf game. My scores have been great, and I'm no longer as white as a ghost. :crazyeye: I still play a game here and there, but mostly out of boredom if I'm home and nothing good is on my 600-channel TV. (Another amazing feat of humanity... lol)

I think the most important thing we'll see with new games is multiplayer. Playing Civ 2 against the computer was boring after a while. Playing a custom-made WWII scenario (as the Canadians :D) with 5 of my WWII-fanatic buddies was great. No AI cheating, no lame settler dhiarea (I laugh everytime I see that written :D ), no ridiculous demands in trades... Civ 3 multiplayer with my buds is going to be a blast. (Moo 3 too... can't wait!)

Bottom line, I hope you're not giving up on computer games because of Civ 3. One can play games AND have a life outside their house too... It doesn't have to be one or the other. Their's going to be some great games coming out in the next few years, especially as computers become powerful enough to handle complex AI. Don't let one game ruin the whole experience. :)

Oh I get it, you're trolling.

You need more practice - grammar nazism is the sign of a beginner (while bad grammar is the hallmark of the lazy). Mensa- trolling is good fun, but easy for anyone with even a slight IQ advantage. To be a good troll, you need to TRANSCEND categories like that. If someone can analyze a post and say "grammar nazi," "mensa troll," "flamethrower clone," etc, then you've failed.

Sorry to see a CIV fan go, but in your case it is probably the right decision. CIV 3 isn't all their is to life, so if you are not enjoying yourself playing the game then parting with it is probably best. CIV 3 is addicting but for most of us its an addiction that we love. Wish you the best in your post- CIV life.

Ah but the problem with my english is the fact that it is not my native language, I have NEVER taken a lesson in english and so on...

Then... the word "prolly" in case you've never met this word before... ...I think it was very common at some point in some of the online games I played at some point... ...and if you still havent figured it out, its a substitution for "propably".

and then, to the "looser" point, it seems to have been a typo, I most certainly know that there is only 1 "o" in "loser", I think I was just typing so fast that i didnt notice it.

Then again, do you say that watching TV isn't a waste of time?
Or why don't you just say that we all are a "waste of space"
What isn't a waste of anything? Tell me that and I will personally brake my own Civ 3 CD. (Not that it really matters... Cd-rom station got wasted and i decided to crack that freaking .exe just to be able to play Civ 3 again)

Civ III is, in my opinion, a bad game. If you see a horrible movie, wouldn't you advise people not to waste two hours of their life on it? My regret is that I wasted far more than two hours of my life on this game because I had such fond memories of Civ I.

Has it ever occurred to you that People have different taste in games, movies, books etc. ? And therefore there might be people who would really enjoy playing Civ 3, but will never try it out just because people like you.

If you are sticking to your word, then I guess you will never anwser this post, propably never even see it, but I guess I am the kind of person who likes to argue, (My brother predicts I will become a lawyer) and therefore I have put all this effort into this topic, even if im not sure what I will accomplish with it.

Talk about waste of time. :)
