There's a no games, email, or chat rule in the school on computers. But usually most people don't follow it and get caught. But that's usually in the library and not in the classroom, so most people just play games anyway. So I was playing Slime Volleyball with someone just before chemistry class, and then suddenly the Internet Explorer window gets shut down and a Windows Messenger popup comes up saying "no games." A few minutes later the network technican comes in all smug and saying, "I told you no games."

That's the last time I'm playing games on the school computer... :shakehead

I think our rule at school is that you can do whatever you want (except porn and illegal stuff I assume), but you have to leave if someone needs the computer for school-related things.

Just the fact that the network technican (BTW, it's a "she") can actually do that - I was unaware that it could be done - really does scare me though. No, I wasn't punished, but it was pretty embarassing, which is what I think she was aiming for - to show she's in control.

Apparently we have all of our Internet Use monitopred by some main computer at our School District Headquarters that scans for certain words, like Porn, etc. Apparently CFC is not one of them, since I always use it, and never get caught.

I remember being able to install Civ 3 on one of the school compuiters, and it worked, slowly, but surely!!!

yep, you didnt know that's possible? alot of comanies do that to keep their employies from doing stuuff like that, there's a way to remove it with a certain program, at least i think, it soounds like that thing, but youd get in trouble and that would be funny

Yeah that happens. At my school, they put one of ythosre programmes, btu the teachers had the great idea of not passwrd protecting it. . Kids logged on and sent insulting messages to one another. Then some brat tells the adults.
Now, the only way we can write insulting messages is by swapping keyboards.

theirs a similar rule at my scholl about no games but they can never find out who played the game because we log on to somebodies account who has left the school but they forgot to deletee but their was a Kid who looked up porn and thought nobody could trace him for looking it up well they did and he got told off in front of the whole school

Our teachers are okay about it. If you get caught wth something unsuitable, he will say "I don't think that's suitable", like the time I was caught on the weird love tester that shows that execising dude with the afro as one of the results .

In general we could play games as long as the teacher couldn't see the computer... There would be occasional days where we just wouldn't get a teacher which would basically mean an hour of installing games and then about 10 minutes actually playing them...

I remember in my freshman year my technology/computer class my teacher said he could do that. Funny thing is, me and two of my friends knew everything that was taught in that course so we played games on candystand the whole year and we used command prompt and sent messages to other computers and he never did anything or never said anything.

Best class (besides the teacher looking down girls shirts) ever!

I know a guy that was pinging computers on our campus network one day, and not 2 minutes after he started the head of ITS called his dorm room and said, "Justin, stop it." Properly set up, the admin can see everything you do.

We have very strict rules in my college (I'm IT Manager). No one other than tech is allowed to install anything. Each computer has a setup routine that will detect any files other than allowed ones. We can monitor any computer. Each website visited is logged against the student on the central server (no deleting your history here). Logging on as someone else results in suspension from college. etc etc etc.

I get to ban/suspend people too

Did you notice what monitoring software did they use? Probably it's some kind of program which allows one to see screenshots of your computer screen. Ironically virus scanners should label that kind of programs as "backdoors", but in your case using it was probably legitimate.

Btw, isn't that kind of monitoring easy to bypass if one changes proxy server used by the browser to some third-party server? I mean, isn't it possible that the connection to the proxy is encrypted and after that the connection would proceed unencrypted to the actual site requested by the user?

Me and a friend installed the original civ on some of the computers and when we were "caught" by the history teacher, he thought it was nice and asked us if we thought it'd be possible to play a civ-tournament for history class... We've also played the excellent finish game Liero a lot.
