So... is that it?

Firaxis/2k were excellent by not ripping us off with the Expanison Pack, I'm sure a lot of people thought that DLC would be the bigger focus than Expansion Pack, quite frankly I gotta admit I was suprirsed (pleasantly) to hear we're getting 9 new civilizations.

By definition DLC are online. It stands for DownLoadable Content.

It's absurd to think that it would be worth printing a CD and case, distributing it and taking up retail space for a single civ worth 2.5$
On the other hand, they could sell it as a scratch-card with a code on it.
That way you can buy it retail. Well, sort off.

That's how EA sells The Sims 3's extra towns (Barnacle Bay) they just shove it in as a register code.. not the way people liked it. waste of space.. think "green"

But why not just buy it online?

Is it just fear/security/logistics of buying stuff online?
Guess so, I don't know?

I can imagine people wanting to buy a box when they buy a game, so they have something to put on the shelf, I bought a hardcopy of Civ5 for that reason.
But I can't imagine wanting a box for every DLC, it would be too much room for nothing.

The first thing i want is an in-game button to activate/deactivate DLC's on the fly, but i guess i'll need to settle with what i get

They might release a bigger $20 pack of DLC though, like the Rock Band Track Packs which are made of "DLC" and don't require an internet connection. If not that, they will almost for sure release a "Civ V Complete" pack down the line.

I'm a little disappointed... maybe they shouldn't have leaked whatever they have until now. Seems like Espionage and religion, things we have already gotten a taste of in the previous civ, are the only brand new features.... with some tweaks here and there. Who knows if the game play will even be significantly better, or more immersing... after several play throughs.

I was surprised in terms of the content and nine new civs, but I guess that is pretty standard for a full blown expansion pack.

Overall, I think the expansion will allow the player to explore more avenues, but I still believe the depth will be lacking, even if the combat and the diplomacy drastically improve. It can even be worse with some of the new features so fingers crossed.

Outside of an improved AI, I am a sucker for heavy content and as many avenues as possible, so as long as we continue to get new techs, units, resources, buildings, etc, that is one of the main things for me. More features the better so long as the game play doesn't suffer.

There already have been two Civ 5-GOTY-versions released, with increasing amount of DLC included, so another GOTY-version (including DLC and/or XP) is definitely to be expected.
