So, what Civ Traits are you guys fond of?

Sounds like philisophical is overpowered.

philosophical is limited by diminishing returns. The later in the game you goto, and more leaders having been born, the more it takes to make new leaders on a geometric scale.

having a constant multipler on a geometric scale helps, but it doesn't help as much as you think.

basically you will never have TWICE as many leaders as non philosophical ones, you will have a few more.

On the other hand, financial scales much better, as you build more cities and as your cities grow financial actually becomes more impacting. and don't forget that your science research is a % of your total commerce.

I think the traits are well balanced too. There is no single trait that seems totally worthless to me, compared to Civ3 where there were only a few that I liked.

So far my anarchy has only lasted 1 turn max (on noble) even when changing several civics at once so I'm not convinced that spiritual is all that - and I also had no problem getting an early religion (vs 6 AIs).

I'm addicted to industrous for now, since I like cranking out early wonders. In my current game I found stone and built my second city near it so I was cranking wonders out of my capital faster than normal buildings.

I'm currently playing as americans with ind/org and organized seems to help a great deal - I only had to dip to 90% research once and my income is ridiculous.

My initial impression is that Philosophical and Industrious are a bit overpowered. If any the other traits seem weak, it is only because they have to be compared to these two. I think 50% great person generation, and +25% on Wonder building would be more approriate.

I like creative, Having borders solidified early is pretty important. It means you can take more land than other civs. Philosophical I thought would be an over powering trait but that was when I thought that it would only shoot out great artist (meaning culture bombs) but the reality is that the other great people don't have as big of an effect(profets, engies, merchants).

Has anyone found a better use for a great merchant yet? I know they make better trade routes or something, but is there a way to make their contribution larger?

BTW I like Persia (phil, creative)the best so far, as for the other bonuses from the other traits that you don't get, you can solve by civic options.

I'm going to say that expansive is definitely overpowered. There is more of a chance of settler/worker from goody hut, and that can REALLY make for a ridiculously good head start for your civilization, not to mention half priced granary and +2 health in all cities.
