Social groups- "Moderated"?

what does the 'moderated' option when starting a social group mean?

Not sure (haven't opened a group for some time), but i think it's about if new members have to get approved or not.

Correct. I have some social groups, and the new members have to be approved by the owner to join.

I think it gives the social group creater powers to delete threads etc too..
