SolarGamer: First 100 Turns as African Union

That wa another pretty good vid. It really does seem like every building has a quest decision to improve it. I loge the trade unit bonus for the ultrasonic fence.

Titanium mines give additional 4 production? Tectonic scanner looks really good now.
Alien nest persists after acquiring the tile, unlike barb camps.
Capital got 80 production boost from expedition. Could be really helpful while building early wonders.
That Elodie quote for Alien Lifeforms tech. lol.
Finishing Occupational Hazard quest gave him instant 3 levels and half harmony points. That would be about 50xp.

I think he made a mistake not eliminating the alien nest in that acquired tile, because it kept producing Drones that attacked him repeatedly, perhaps due to his proximity to the nest.

Creating an Outpost with his Colonist gave him a free Soldier unit. I haven't seen anything like that before. I guess I'll have to go back and check the Northernlion video (shudder) to see if the same thing happened.
The quest is listed on this post, you can ask OP about that. (I was curious about that too but was too lazy asking it.)

It's interesting to note, that from the looks of this, high concentrations of aliens can't act like semi-malleable barriers to territories.

I found it a bit comical when he let KP pass with a settler, only to get that settler killed. In a way, "nurturing" a nearby hive can act as your stake on the land.

I wonder if building a city within two of a nest is a good 'low hate' way to get xenomass. When you build your fence, the aliens should leave it unprotected. You still probably get some hate for clearing the nest, but not for killing a half dozen aliens. And you get the Xenomass.

Edit: I'm also not as certain as everyone else that ultrasonic traders are the way to go. 3 tiles is big, and by mid-game, probably not many nests left. And protecting a strat resource tile in the third ring from seige worms seems really valuable.

On the other hand, the seas seem pretty crowded, so for ocean trade routes, the protection could be more useful. Do we know if ocean routes double returns in BE like in CiV?

It looks like specialists are healthier people.

No all population is 0.75 unhealth (at least at that difficulty level)

8 +6 =14 total pop
12 regular=12*.75=9 unhealth
2 specialists=2*.75=1.5 unhealth

How do the Affinity-related quest decisions work?

If I didn't miss anything, these are the decisions he made:
  1. Contain the outbreak: Harmony
  2. Domesticate wildlife: Harmony, Supremacy
  3. Don't risk contamination: Harmony
  4. Let them settle on their own: Harmony
  5. Adopt wildlife: Harmony

He was 0/0/0 until he chose "Adopt wildlife", then he gained 3 Harmony levels. How that works?

Well, the first 4 quests probably added up to just under level 1 harmony. So he might have been like just 1 point shy of level 1 when he completed "adopt wildlife". So it was enough to bump him all the way to level 3.

Domesticate Wildlife doesn't necessarily give points..instead it enables Adopt wildlife

Let them Settle on their own doesn't give points either it leads to another quest where he chose the non points option (+science and energy instead of +points and energy)

Don't Risk Contamination also leads to other quests

Contain Outbreak is the only one where his choice (as far as I know) didn't lead to another quest... so that probably gave him not quite enough to reach level 1.

Then the other was enough to push him to level 3
