Solver's Unofficial BtS Patch

No code affecting that was changed. So, hmm - and at any rate, the conditions for colonies releasing themselves shouldn't be met too often. Interesting.

It appears auto-explorers have stopped healing. I'm pretty sure Bhruic's fix solved that one. Sorry for my apparent vagueness; I'm trying to be as definite as I can be without explicitly being definite. ;) I'm pretty sure the Bhruic fix made auto explorers wait to heal before exploring again. Whatever the case, my auto-exploring warrior isn't doing it now.

I found something, maybe for Blake, don't know:
I played a Monarch game and found out, Louis is going for a cultural win. I was able to capture one of his 3 culture cities and hoped to prevent it this way, but i was wrong. He had a replacement city with 26k culture and started to push this one further. I tried to wage some more war against him and bribed other AIs into it, but since he had mighty friends, i wasn't able to stop him, but at least slowed him down by a large margin since i forced him to tech again and so release the culture slider. He still won, but that's because i played crappy.
So much for the story, the point is that his 3rd culture city gained only 96 culture per turn once the slider was set to 0 and he did not push the slider to earn his win and so needed 12 turns to get from 48900 to 50k, 10 of them simply wasted (none of his culture cities was in danger). Also his capital had 120k culture when the game ended, that's maybe a bit overdone.
I have seen 5 culture wins by AIs so far and altogether they were played quite decent (fastest one was 1904 AD, not too shabby), but the AI does a quite bad job in evening out culture between the 3 cities and also in the endgame to claim the victory. I also observed that they always use the culture slider (until threatened) and don't concentrate too much on artists.

Updated

Changes as follows...

  • Destroying Towns through espionage will turn them into Villages, etc.
  • Slight tweak to the AI selection of HQ city when founding a corp
  • Splitting off a colony no longer tends to create the same civilization

Note on the last item. It doesn't mean you'll never split off the same civ, of course, but the game will now try to avoid these situations instead of actually favoring them.

And yes indeed, this is safe to use if you update to 3.03.

Dearest Solver, regarding my recent reporting of exploring issues, I believe that I was wrong to attribute them to your latest version of the .dll fix. I'd forgotten that I had started my two games today using a mod, and it seems to come with its own version of the .dll file. Please accept my humble apologies. :)

Alternative download would be nice, I cannot get to apolyton. EDIT: fount the file here on CFC, thanks!

And thanks for the nice work.

Yep, please take note of that. Apolyton is moving servers and will be intermittently unavailable during the next 2-3 days, depending on your ISP. As such, the file can also now be downloaded straight from CFC here.

I've noticed that Barb galleys do not appear to want to attack unescorted work boats. Anyone else have that happen?

Wodan

Noticed the new v3.03 patch just went live.
Does this mean we do not need to DL Solver's Fixes? or we still should still use Solver's Fixes?

Solver, great job! No complaints from me. You've already done more than you should. I just hope the Civ devs are inspired by your initiative.

Heads-up. I'm rather busy right now, but Blake has sent me some more new code, largely featuring governor changes, so those will be up today.

Hi, Solver. Thanks for this patch and thanks for putting the CFC link in your sig and in the first post here for all to see. I was delighted when I saw that you had made a patch that fixed all of the problems that I was encountering and I was then horrified to see that I couldn't connect to Apolyton to actually get it. :)

Thanks again!

Hmm, it's a new sadistic idea I like... put a nice changelist up, a very promising patch, and a broken download link. Bwahhaaa!
