What kind of new district do you expect we will be getting?

The answer is not at all clear to me. Just throwing anything out right now:

A hospital/health related district?

A trade/corporation district?

A diplomacy/world congress/city-state oriented district?

A tourism district?

A district for projects, such as Operation Ivy and others?

A palace district for the capital city?

I think it will be an espionage district. Probably providing a bonus to espionage defense and spy production bonus.

We could get a Bridge District as well to connect two tiles of land separated by a one tile of water like what the Golden Gate Wonder does now.
That or a health district would be my guesses since we will be getting two.

A health district would imply a whole new health game feature, which would be a Mode. Since the next Mode is Secret Societies, a health district would have to be the second one coming later.

Some kind of public services district. It fills the gap of common city buildings we are missing like police and fire stations, waste disposal and education. It could be a versatile later game district but with exclusive building choices to specialise your city further or sort out any problems.

Fire stations could reduce damage of disasters and offer some more housing or growth. Recycling centres could decrease emissions and cancel out the appeal malus of buildings or just improve appeal around the city. Police stations could improve loyalty and decrease penalties from lack of amenities or something like that.

I agree with @Eagle Pursuit . Spy District is a possibility given one comes with the Secret Society DLC.

Also potentially a Colonial District you build on Foreign Cities. Maybe it’s cheaper, has an AOE loyalty benefit and improves yields or something.

There’s also the possibility of an existing district getting a second Alt Version, a bit like Entertainment Complex and the Waterpark.

Both new districts come with two buildings. Can’t imagine the New Districts have their own buildings that aren’t included in those numbers. So, either the District has no buildings (like an Aqueduct) and we’re getting two new buildings for something else, or it’s a District with two buildings etc.

Honestly. Who knows.

Most likely, I'm expecting it will be some sort of district related to espionage since they come together. However, that would require a re-work of the current espionage system (since presumably the new district would have to give "espionage points" or something like that, so I'm not positive they want to do changes like that with these new DLC.

The colonial office would be an interesting option. It would essentially be like a secondary government district that only comes later in the game for a loyalty bonus.

I don't think a late game health district would necessitate a new game mode. It could simply be a district with a couple buildings like Hospital to give late game housing boosts, although that would obviously overlap with neighbourhoods. The new one would certainly need to have some unique way to be useful.

My best guess would be the spy/espionage one, which would obviously tie into the new game mode, as being the most likely option.

An espionage district seems a little odd to me an area dedicated to spying doesnt occur as a common thing you'd find in a city? Compared to religious, commercial, industrial areas it just doesnt sit right. Sure you've got places like MI6 and what have you but they generally rare buildings that only exist in the capital. If its a one off district like the goverment plaza I guess that could work but it still feels too niche.

If you expanded it to more of a state district where you could build courthouses, prisons and a late game spy HQ I think that would be better as it would offer more options.

I agree. I guess this thread is specifically talking about the one coming up on the Ethiopia pack.

I honestly don’t see a need to dedicate a whole district to espionage though as I think the Intelligence Agency does well.

This might work but I think since its only two new buildings I can see a municipal district in each city with local courthouse, police station or possibly fire station to combat natural disaters.

It's a strange situation. Normally a new district would be tied to a new system, but we've been told there are no new systems.

You would think that it would be something that Ethiopia would have a unique district or building for, but none of the options really fit.

A diplomacy/espionage oriented district could tie into the Secret Societies mode, but that may be barking up the wrong tree.

I would love to see some of the obvious missing municipal buildings such as hospitals, courthouses and fire and police stations (I was very disappointed that the Government Plaza was populated with gamey fantasy buildings instead of the above), but there are no new systems to support them. There are forest fires now, but I would be surprised if they'd add a building just for that.

I guess the safe thing to add would be a new tourism related district. But holy cow that's boring.

I'm not sure what buildings are considered fantasy in the Govt. Plaza? I think the buildings in there are fine, though the names of some, like Warlord's Throne are questionable.

I think courthouses/police stations would work fine in a municipal district which could be in every city. Police station/courthouse could easily prevent counter spying, if not loyalty related and if no diseases are added than hospitals could still give housing.

The Vampire Unit Department? The Creates Disloyalty In Cities Without Governors Chamber? WTH is an "Ancestral Hall" and what has it got to do with Builders? The effects are interesting game-wise, but aside from the Intelligence Agency and a few others, they seem totally disconnected to any kind of real municipal building.

That's the thing, though... this would change the current balance of these systems, which they indicated they don't want to do.

I'm assuming you mean the War Department for the first one? I can agree that some of the bonuses might not have to do with the actual building in real life, but that doesn't mean the names of them didn't exist throughout history. I think that's where I the confusion that I had was.

The civilopedia makes it kind of clear on why the Audience Chamber is the way that it is, as it states that the ruler sometimes sent out lackeys on his or her behalf, when they are too busy to meet with anybody.

Not really sure on the builder with the Ancestral Hall, other than they wanted to make it the play "wide" building.
A Senate/assembly building would make more sense though as a play "wide" building as there would be representatives from all the areas that you control.

Have they confirmed that the new district is not just a unique district for one of the civs?
The Maya have a unique district and that pack didn't say it came with a new district.

I would be disappointed if the new district is only applicable to secret societies mode. I hope it is something we can use in all our other games too.

I would like a district that allows for tier 4 buildings. It's unlikely but I think it would make a good addition to the game.

Railyard? I've been campaigning for enhanced Railroads and this could be a part.

Garbage dump? The more you produce the more it fills up and then you have to build a new one.

Suburb? Have to put those chain restaurants somewhere.
