Spoonwood's Hall of Fame Attempts

1265 AD - Score of 10,743. Sirpleb's calculator esitmates a final score of 29,377 if population didn't grow. The internal per-turn score is 44,623.

We pass another milestone it seems, with only one palace upgrade after this:

Palace Almost Done.png

@Buttercup 's list doesn't clue me in to what caused the palace upgrade. Palace upgrades seem to come more slowly to me on Sid level than lower levels, though that could get explained by not building as much culture according to his list and not getting to the middle age first at least.

1285 AD - Wang has Espionage. We could make peace and trade for it. But, I think that 20 turns of war happiness has more value than 4 turns earlier getting to future tech. Learn Combustion, Mass Production projects at 6 turns.

It passed through my mind to make city spots all on my continent with connecting cultural borders. I kind of like that better aesthetically. And with tables with less than 10 spots, why the hell not? Well, not for this game since I already have cities in some higher scoring spots up, and I dislike abandoning cities to some extent also. But at least, having connected cities in histographic games, similar to 100k type games, makes for a potentially useful idea. There's no rule around here about needing to play for maximum score to submit a game. Mass Production dropped to 5 turns by the end of 1290 AD.

1310 AD - Score of 12,015.

1315 AD - Learn Mass Production. Score of 12,157. Estimated score at 2050 is 31,775, while internal per turn score is 47,941. On the next turn though, the score estimate drops to 31,056, and 47,717 after we abandonded two large cities, because of cultural expansions. But, oh well.

1335 AD - Last Palace expansion happened on the previous interturn. Score of 12,720. Complete research on Motorized Transportation and start research on Flight, projected in 6 turns. Atomic Theory projects to 7 turns. And here's our prebuild:

Prebuild.png

Do you want to guess at the research plan for Theory of Evolution techs? I'm not sure I can control what techs I get with What's the Big Picture usage, so my plan might fail. I can't seem to select a modern age tech with the research queue.

1340 AD - Score of 12,860. SirPleb's calculator estimates 2050 AD score at 31,649, with the internal per-turn score as 48,840. I think the estimated score more accurate to what I'll get now than the internal per-turn score.

Korus:

Korus.png

Earlier in this game I thought that spot worth it. I had someone missed a hill near there worth it. All of it's land tiles other than the city center can get used by some other city eventually. So, it's unique tiles are the 4 coast tiles and the 2 sea tiles.

The city center eventually would average out to 3.5 points per turn. 2 for the working citizen. 1 for a specialist supported. And half a point for an extra specialist when the city grows above it's normal size. The coast tile gives 8 points. The two sea squares 4 points. For a total of (3.5 + 8 + 4) = (11.5 + 4) =15.5 points. For (1 + 4) = 5 tiles that count towards the domination limit. That averages out to 3.1 points per tile counting towards the domination limit. But that's NOT the relevant calculation.

The city center can get used by another city. The coast tile nearest to Kissura can get used by Kissura. So, it's only 3 coast squares and the two sea squares combined that add value. That's 10 extra points for 3 more tiles counting towards the domination limit. Alright, that still seems high value, though maybe I'm wrong. Anyways, I want to settle some more of the better tundra spots if possible, and settle at least one desert area:

Desert Coast.png

Where the settler stands makes for the best desert area on the map for score with it's 4 extra sea squares. I'd rather at least one area with desert tiles get used eventually, even if it leads to slightly lower score since I have an agricultural tribe especially. After seeing tundra tiles as useful sometimes, I'd rather have some desert tile still useful at the end than no desert tile as useful.

I noticed one city at flip risk with CrpMapStat during one turn and it had a Korean citizen. It got replaced by a new city without any Koreans.

Since the war with Korea started again, I kind of worried that no commercial dock would be useful. But this old Byzantine city does need one:

Naissus.png

1365 AD- score of 13,577. After completing the turn we learn Flight. Atomic Theory projects at 6 turns.

1370 AD - score of 13,720. According to Sirpleb's calculator, score estimates to 32,942 for final score, with an internal per turn score of 51,329. Sipper has a target of 1000 culture to grab another sea square:

1395 AD - Score of 14,434. One turn left on Atomic Theory. Swap Palace prebuild to Theory of Evolution. We also make a colony this turn! I didn't like a spice city that was on the coast and had no unique sea squares. We learn Atomic Theory without ToE completing following the commerce before shields build order. Electronics projects to 5 turns. Theory of Evolution completes and we do get the "What's the Big Picture?" popup before a 2nd technology completes. Of course, we select Ecology as our next technology, and our Think-Tanks master it's secret. We could shoot down to Genetics first, but instead we'll go back and research Espionage and the other remaining industrial age technologies.

1400 AD - Score of 14,575. Sirpleb's calculator estimates final score as 33,539, with the internal per score as 52,504. After changing many citizen workers to civil engineers to build mass transit systems, Espionage increases from 4 to 11 projected turns.

1425 AD - Score of 15,271. This is the first turn I've noticed a higher score than @bluejay's standard Monarch histographic entry.

1435 AD - We learn Espionage. Amphibous War projects to 8 turns. It drops to 6 turns in 1440 AD after some civil engineers finish up some mass transit systems and get changed to scientists.

1445 AD - The last few turns have suggested to me we're as safe as possible from Korea. So, we'll start getting rid of the armies to decrease the time on two infrastructure builds. The city cycling stopped a few turns ago, when metropolises started completing mass transit centers and getting put on wealth.

I noticed a few turns back that we could take up the same amount of tiles here with one less city by putting one on the circled square here instead of having both Constantinople and Nak:

Circled Spot.png

But, I haven't felt like I want to get rid of Constantinople.

1460 AD - Score of 16,223. We learn Amphibious Warfare, and start on Advanced Flight which projects at 6 turns.

1465 AD - Score of 16,356. Sirpleb's calculator predicts 34,206 points at 2050 AD.

1485 AD - Learn Advanced Flight. We start research on Rocketry which projects at 6 turns.

1515 AD - Learn Rocketry. 6 turns projected for Computers.

1525 AD - For the first turn in a long time, we have no pollution happen this turn.

1535 AD - Score of 18,141. We have exceeded Mad2rix's Standard Emperor Histographic score now.

1545 AD - Learn Computers. Start on Recycling projected to get learned in 6 turns.

I may have seen it for a city in this spot this game before, but I don't know how the cultural expansion of Calakmul will work:

Calakmul.png

Fortunately, the expansion went as I have hoped:

Nice Expansion.png

1575 AD - Score of 19,084. We learn Recycling. Fission projected to get completed in 6 turns.

1580 AD - Score of 19,199. SirPleb's calculator predicts final score of 34,413.
Did I mention that according to Mapstat, the domination is 1841 tiles? According to Bartleby's research this map ends up slightly below average for a 60% archipelago map.

I am surprised that the cultural expansion worked like that, but I guess that none of the cultural borders were fewer than 2 tiles away. In effect, there are 2 of the 2x2 cultural gap "boxes" like the one SW of Trebizond. That is a very, very good 6 sea tile grab!

I had a city on that hill in that 2x2 cultural gap earlier, and replanted New Cleveland there.

I know I had a city where Calakmul sits earlier, but got rid of it earlier when I had many temple expansions, and rushed to get rid of cities. I haven't done calculations on the value of Calakmul. I might settle the forested tile in that picture, as we have 4 sea squares there. But, with 3 mountains, I'm not so sure. 2 plains is 6 food, and 3 mountains is no food, so 6 food for 5 land more tiles. No, an area with tundra tiles and at least 4 sea squares likely has more value than that spot, I think. But, now I know!

1585 AD - We need 60% luxuries for maximum happiness in Iconium (the city with only a mountain tile, coast tiles, and sea tiles).

1595 AD - We get rid of a fair number of galleons to pick up more infrastructure.

1600 AD - I finally notice that Korea has oil railroaded, so two core cities start on bombers.

1605 AD - Finish research on Fission. Start research on Synthetic Fibers, which projects at 7 turns.

I have this island I thought about settling originally, then abandoned, and now think I'll settle:

Tundra Island.png

I forgot there's some technology which allows you to sell off buildings for shields. Which technology is that?

1645 AD - Discover Miniaturization. Begin research on Genetics; projected to finish in 7 turns.

1680 AD - Score of 21,369. Learn Genetics. Start research on Nuclear Power, which says 7 turns, but we'll try to get it down to 6 turns.

1685 AD - Score of 21,470. SirPleb's calculator predicts 34,457 as our final score. The Hall of Javelinists starts on Cure for Cancer with many civil engineers.

1695 AD - The last new city gets built. It takes up 3 more grassland tiles. One cultural expansion left.

1710 AD - Score of 21,967. We have now exceeded my own Demigod Standard Histographic's game in score from 2008/2009. We learn Synthetic Fibers and start on The Laser; projected to complete in 6 turns.

1715 AD - Ake has it's cultural expansion. That makes for the last cultural expansion of borders, unless I have messed up something with inner cultural builds. Score of 22,066. SirPleb's calculator predicts a final score of 34,665. We still have that new island of cities to grow, and infrastructure to build.

1735 AD - Luxuries up to 70% so that all the citizens of Whale Saltpeter become happy.

Whale Saltpeter.png

1745 AD - We learn The Laser. Start research on Synthetic Fibers - 7 turns.

1762 AD - Learn Synthetic Fibers. Start research on Stealth - 8 turns.

1766 AD - Cure for Cancer completes.

1768 AD - The luxury slider drops to 60%.

1778 AD - Learn Stealth; start on Space Flight - 8 turns. We get it down to 6 turns in 1780 AD.

1790 AD - Learn Space Flight. Start on Satellites - 6 turns.

1800 AD - Score up to 25,003.

A few turns ago, we started bombing Korea, since they have a source of oil, and I anticipate them reaching Flight. This is the first game I've played for the Hall of Fame where I remember using bombers. And later stealth bombers and jet fighters. I had to look up that jet fighters had air superiority... maybe I knew once? 17 years ago?. If Korea didn't have oil, I would have left them alone.

1802 AD - Lean Satellites. Start on Superconductor - 6 turns.

1812 AD - Score of 25,507. We have surpassed rysingsun's Deity score now.

1814 AD - Score of 25,590. SirPleb's calculator predicts 35,170 at 2050 AD. We learn The Superconductor. Start on Smart Weapons - 6 turns.

1822 AD - The last of the Mass Transit Systems gets purchased. I had missed 3 somehow earlier it seems.

1826 AD - Learn Smart Weapons. Start on Robotics - 6 turns.

1838 AD - Learn Robotics. Start on Integrated Defense - 7 turns.

1852 AD - Learn Integrated Defense. Start research on Future Tech.

1854 AD - Start using 20% science research.

1856 AD - Korea has Flight.

We never saw any bombers from Korea. The Korean worker, though he roaded the oil for a while, eventually decided to go and clean pollution. Our air force bombed Korean flaks towards the end, and also bombed the city back to size 1.

The final demographics:

Demographics SSH.png

I noticed we still had some Sumerian citizens at the end. Foreign nationals do not necessarily culturally assimilate.

20.2 points from 19 future techs. Final score of: 35,199!

If accepted, this score will not only exceed the scores of every entry currently in the HoF for standard maps, it will also exceed the scores of every entry for large maps!

Though, I guess I will also point out that the score multiplier for Sid ends up substantial. So, it's not necessarily a better game than some lower level entries.
