Hello,

After a game with Ramses, I will stay in the antiquity and try to rebuild the eternal city. As a roman emperor, there can be only one victory condition: domination. All people of the Earth must submit to the power of Rome. Also the emperor should as much as possible follow the advices of the senate to avoid political problems. Nevertheless, as emperor, we reserve the right to overrule the semante when all their suggestions are blatantly absurd.

Settings are:
Large Pangea map (I noticed huge map was simply to big to be wholly used in the previous game). AI sea-sickness restricts me on a map kind I would normally never use.
I added 5 civs to the usual setting to force empires to fight for land. Speed is limited to Epic (I usually played almost only Marathon in CivIV as I like to "feel the passing of time" but it feels too big an advantage at the present time).
King difficulty, I normally only play at Prince but again the AI needs a little help at the moment, so King it is.

The start seem very auspicious: gold, wine, wheat and sheep. All the people need to start their march to glory.

0 AUC (turn 0)
Once the city is built, a few decisions have to be made. In agreement with roman customs, I will listen to our trusty senators to decide what we should do.

Senatrix Pulchra Dulcia Lingua: we should raise scouts to explore the surroundings of our city.
Senator Marcus Bellum Amicus: I second raising scouts, we should also research the art of Archery or Animal Husbandry to improve the modernity of the glorious roman army.
Senator Gnaeus Caput Ovus: we should raise new warriors and research Animal Husbandry to take benefit of the sheeps in our lands.
Senatrix Julia Fava Numera: we should build a great monument to impress the neighbouring people, concentrate on increasing our population and learn to mine the gold in the surrounding hills.

Thus I, Augustus decide to raise new scouts and ask our scholars to search Animal Husbandry as they seem the most consensual decisions. Our warriors are sent east to explore the lands around the city of Rome and already they catch a glimpse of distant ruins.

25AUC (turn 1)
In the ruins, our warriors find weapons that seem more efficient than our clubs. They also see a barbarian camp a little further east. They also see a lot more sheeps and sugar.

50 AUC (turn 2)
We encounter chinese warriors who tell us that if we leave them in peace, they will do the same with us. We ensure them that all we aim at is peace, Pax romana to be more precise. We notice with pride that they are still armed with outdated clubs while our roman army is equiped with modern spears. We decide to leave the barbarians for now and continue our exploration.

125 AUC (turn 5)
Our soldiers find precious objects in ruins south of Rome. They are brought back to Rome and greatly increase our culture.

150 AUC (turn 6)
With our cultural progress, it is time to start establishing some true roman tradition. We will start with Honour, which is the basis for a real great army. Our spearmen find sea shores a little south of Rome. The known world at this point:

200 AUC (turn 8)
Scouts are ready in Rome, time to ask the senate what we should do next. Senatrix Dulcia Lingua and Senator Caput Ovus favour raising new scouts, Senator Bellum Amicus would like that we raise warriors and Senatrix Fava Numera still wants a big monument built. None of these senile folks have considered that maybe, if we are learning to husband sheeps, it would be good to actually have people available to husband sheeps. So I imperially decide that we should first raise a group of workers to put the surrounding lands to good use.
Exploring ruins south of Rome, our spearmen find traces of barbarians who seem to live west of our capital.

225 AUC (turn 9)
Our scouts find some dye north-east of Rome.

250 AUC (turn 10)
Our warriors find big animals that could provide us with ivory south-west of Rome. We seem to have settled in rich lands.

275 AUC (turn 11)
We encounter some of a garlic-stinking spearmen who call themselves french. Their leader is supposedly a great military commander, that will be put to the test soon enough. Our scout establish contact with a city called Singapore, whose inhabitants send us a tribute of 30 gold.

300 AUC (turn 12)
Our scouts encounter warriors named Aztec whose customs and clothes seem quite strange. We seem to have lots of neighbours.

325 AUC (turn 13)
Our spearmen encounter warriors whose leader is called Alexander the great, another supposedly military genius.

350 AUC (turn 14)
We encounter spearmen of a people called songhaï whose leader is named Askia. By their manners and tales, they seem quite warlike too. We also meet warriors called english north of Rome. Finally the french propose that we sign an open border treaty, which we accept.

375 AUC (turn 15)
Our spearmen find a city called Bruxelles, their population send us a gift of 15 gold. Our scholars have found how to tame sheeps. Time to ask the senate what should be our next goal.

Senatrix Pulchra Dulcia Lingua: we should raise scouts to explore the surroundings of our city.
Senator Marcus Bellum Amicus: we should learn to mine the gold in the hills around our city so we have enough sesterces to raise a army worthy of Rome. We should also learn Archery to modernise our army.
Senator Caius Gallinus Minimus: the songhaï, aztec, french and chinese armies are stronger than ours.
Senator Gnaeus Caput Ovus: I agree we should learn Mining to bring gold in our city.
Senatrix Julia Fava Numera: we have enough troops at the moment. I concur with learning to mine the gold in the surrounding hills.

Since it seems by far the prevailing opinion, I decide that our scholars will study Mining.

400 AUC (turn 16)
Elizabeth emissaries would like us to sign a secret treaty against the chinese but we decline at this point.

425 AUC (turn 17)
Our scouts find marble north of Rome.

Senatrix Pulchra Dulcia Lingua: we should raise more scouts to explore the surroundings of our city.
Senator Marcus Bellum Amicus: we should raise warriors to increase our army strength.
Senator Gnaeus Caput Ovus: we should raise new workers to gather the riches around our city.
Senatrix Julia Fava Numera: we should raise settlers to increase the size of our empire.

Because senator Caput Ovus seems very inconsistent, we rule out raising workers. Whatever we choose now, he will probably suggest we do next time we ask him. Due to the barbarian threat, we decide to follow the advive of senator Bellum Amicus and raise warriors for the roman army.

700 AUC (turn 28)
On their way to Rome, our spearmen attack the barbarian camp to the west. The first assault is repulsed but our troops had the upper hand in the fights. A little more time and the barbarian threat will be gone.

Senatrix Fava Numera still argues that we should raise settlers but the other don't seem to have much interest on this matter except for senator Gallinus Minimus who argues that we are nearly defenceless and asks for more troops. We decide that it is time for Rome to start building a true empire and we start raising settlers to build a second city.

825 AUC (turn 33)
The chinese emissaries propose that we sign an open border treaty, we accept.

850 AUC (turn 34)

1200 AUC (turn 48)
Our scholars have mastered Bronze Working. Let us listen to the advices of the senate.

Senator Marcus Bellum Amicus: we should research Archery to modernise our army or Iron Working to strengthen our warriors.
Senator Caius Gallinus Minimus: we need more troops to defend our city against our neighbours, most are more powerful than us.
Senator Gnaeus Caput Ovus: we should research Iron Working to be able to equip a powerful army.
Senatrix Julia Fava Numera: we should research the Wheel and build a road to the colony we are about to build.

As Iron Working seem to gather the strongest support, there we go! In the north-east, our scout discover iroquoi lands, they just build a colony as it seems.
