Spring 2017 patch notes

Australia is very powerful civ and I understand scaling it back
But, I will start a off-line Australia game to enjoy the civ as I bought it one last time.

Much like the last patch, these are good changes, but they don't address the game's biggest issues (the balance between production and science/culture and the front loading of the AI's difficulty bonuses). The harbor buff seems like the most substantial change and certainly a welcome one. Personally I'd prefer to see coastal cities made potent by trade mechanics, but increased gold yields aren't bad as an alternative or supplement.

I will add that these notes may not be quite complete. They note the addition of a future civic (which I hope is just a placeholder name) but don't include any changes to the current repeating civics. Presumably, this is just an isolated oversight, but we can always hope there's more to come.

It would be great to call "Future Civic" "Utopia" with the icon depicting the Eye of Providence (aka the eye pyramid) just like the Utopia Project in Civ V (and on the back of the American $1 bill).

Very excited about these 2. Should be a major help to the AI.

Improved coordination for multiple attacking units
Increased AI’s desire to repair pillaged Districts and Buildings.

Added “Future Civic” to the end of the Civics Tree, a repeatable Civic to research and add to the player score.
Hopefully we can just queue this thing as well as future tech perpetually, so we don't have to select them repeatedly every couple of turns. I didn't get to Future tech last game, so I don't know if the ability to repeat / loop future tech is already in-game.

Generally good, but the complete absence of UI changes is annoying. I still want random map size enabled and difficulty etc/ saved between games.

Well, Firaxis has had a position for a UI designer up for like 3 months now. Maybe they simply don't have anyone fix it ;)

You mean people might actually allow AUS in MP now? Still kinda sad they are getting nerfed, it was fun having the token broken civ to just steam roll games with.

I think you will reassign future civic every few turns as well, because it lets you rearrange your government for free.

  • Fixed double-counting of Appeal from Improvements.
  • The World Tracker now keeps its open/closed state between turns.

I take it the former is about the mines applying a double negative...?

What is the world tracker?

I think the restart button is not a huge requirement tbh. Isn't the challenge of playing civ lies on what resources / terrain you start? I know there is this convenience that you just want to make a new game without exiting the current one and setting up game again, but for me, I don't have to rage to devs just because the thing I wanted is not in the patch.

Of course. You're Ghandi. You just go straight to nuking Firaxis.

The world tracker is the one showing the science and civic progress.

Just the part along the bottom that shows roughly where other Civs are at? And what does the open/closed bit change? Any idea?

^ You see the check box that enables you to show or hide the science / civics bar? That one.

I think the patch will now remember if the checkbox is on or off. Currently, it shows every time you complete a tech or civic.

Ah kay.

No 'save settings' for the lobby? That's disappointing, it would make multiplayer-restarts a lot easier.
How long did it take them to get that in Civ V? I think it was after the first expansion, if I remember correctly.
Indeed.
Gods & Kings came out in june 2012, the restart button in a patch in november 2012, more than two years after Civ 5's release.
