Spring 2017 patch notes

No Restart button? :gripe:
It does seem to be a very basic staple of desire for players since 'forever' with every single iteration of Civ since...forever. You have to wonder. I am leaning now toward the belief that the developers are purposefully being <snip> to a devoted base of players. It seems like the game might be turning into an extended cash grab. Losing patience to be completely honest.

Or maybe they want to encourage players to take life-...er starts how they come and not to cherrypick until paradise. :p

I think I'm missing a trick, could you explain the logical leap from <developers not getting something in a patch> to <developers intentionally being something that avoids the swear filter>?

IIRC the restart button didn't appear in Civ V until BNW, or maybe that was the retire button?

Speaking of which, isn't the retire button kinda pointless in Civ VI since there's no HoF? At least in Civ V if you felt like being super honest you could retire from games you weren't doing well in and have them recorded as a defeat

It might be, but that's an extremely ****ty way of designing the game, if that's the case. The developers should not be hammering their idea of how the game is supposed to be played down the throat of the players. For instance, if developers think game should be played a prince or diety difficulty, they shouldn't just leave out other difficulty levels to force players to play the game "how they feel it should be played". Similarly, leaving out the restart button does not make people not restart, it just makes them curse the developers every time they do it ... which is not what you should be wanting as a developer. And people who want to go with the random roll can just do it, even if restart button is there.

This is something I've done most of the time. Since I am still relatively new to the Civ franchise, I don't quite know what the ideal start looks like, so I usually just roll with whatever I get.

I do wonder if there's something in that. Not just encouraging us to play the map you get, but especially at the launch of a new game, so people don't just reroll based on civ 5 assumptions.

On a technical level, I wonder if they are planning on adding saving settings into their new 'saving sets of mods' functionality, and it's gotten more complicated than it looks.

In addition to my inexperience (that being I've only played civ for 3 years with about 1000 hours across all titles) working with what I get is more fun to me, this is why I often will just select random on what civ to play.

Harbor changes are most welcome. The rest is disappointing...

I agree, especially as the button was found half implemented in the code. Just seems like laziness to me.

That might be the case; encouraging you to play the map, as it lies.

To be fair, most people play single player, and those people will still exist to main menu and try again. There's no harm in this, it just takes longer than it should and is therefore irritating.

Also, no word of them remembering your previous game settings!

Yay Firaxis! Ever heard of a config file?

Added "special ability" stars to techs and civics that unlock new functionality.

^^^ - Yes gawd!

Also happy with the fact they made Coast useful (Lighthouse and Shipyard now boost them).

Right on! If I want to play Civ as an FPS who the hell are they to tell me not to!

.. really? you think that maybe the game has the difficulty levels that the developers feel like putting in and no more. If civ had a diff level setup with 3 levels: 'n00b, still n00b, slightly more n00b' and that's it, you would think they were 'leaving out other diff levels'? They holding out on you or something?

Maybe there's really 5 other difficulty levels you've never seen and those are the ones they won't let you play.

LOL. There's no "logic" in that type of leaping. In the absence of any facts, they
are just like mind-readers who believe they have insights into how the developers think,
and how they conspire against players.

They should be more worried about the actual conspiracy amongst their fellow forum members.

Ferocitus does not know, Delta Aych. Delta Eye, begin transmissions.

So "average" city size? I have to ask: mean or median average? Probably won't make much difference, but I'm curious.
In any case, I wish there were some way to tell us in-game instead of a lot of behind-the-scenes calculations happening for each city you take. I would like to see the modifiers and everything. More info is always better. Well, up to an extent. But I wish there were more instances of transparency in general.

Yeah, right - "laziness". :crazyeye:
It could also be that they had other priorities that don't square with your wishes.

To be fair, most people play single player, and those people will still exist to main menu and try again. There's no harm in this, it just takes longer than it should and is therefore irritating.

Why cater to those people when they have many other things they could be implementing?

They don't have time to learn all that fancy schmancy programming stuff
and still have time to hold secret cabal meetings to conspire against the player base. :crazyeye:

I think the restart button is not a huge requirement tbh. Isn't the challenge of playing civ lies on what resources / terrain you start? I know there is this convenience that you just want to make a new game without exiting the current one and setting up game again, but for me, I don't have to rage to devs just because the thing I wanted is not in the patch.
