Spring Patch Info

Place your bets folks! Will the patch come out this week? :)

With current activity. My guess would be higher then 50% chance the patch will not drop this week.
(I dont mind as my pc is send back to repair again. Currently playing on my old i72600k cpu which is decent enough to play standard maps at enjoyable speeds)

To me, it reminds me of airlines and flight departures. I see two communication approaches being used.

One, say nothing. Ever. The flight leaves when it leaves. Firaxis/2k normally takes this approach. They got messed up by the accidental early release of the video.

Two, communicate constantly as new information becomes available. You could say that this is the better approach, but if you observe how frequently and constantly customers pester the boarding staff when the airline adopts this approach, it seems to me like it's actually much more work for staff. People react to all of the incremental information, and engage staff on how it's going to impact their travel plans, even though the information is interim information and the final departure time isn't yet known.

Personally, I prefer the latter approach, but if I sit back and watch how my fellow human beings deal with the extra information they get, I can understand the reasons for going with saying nothing until there is certainty.

I don't think you can compare the two. Firaxis just needs to make a statement and there's no need to answer questions - 2 minutes is all it takes. I have no problem with them not answering questions - that's like every other company. The real problem is that all communication seems to be marketing or have to be approved by marketing. I don't know any other company that is this rigid or closed off in their communication.

Once they reach a certain size, most companies have a dedicated communications team. Communications are usually motivated for sales and brand image reasons (which in the end are much the same) and screened for regulatory compliance and legal concerns.

Some companies may do it better or worse than others, but that's a reflection of the quality of their communications teams and the resources devoted to them, not their underlying motivation (get customers, keep customers, sell to customers, manage risks).

If there was no retracted video, we'd be seeing no *****ing ATM.

Which brings me back to my thought that if I were them I wouldn't announce anything to the public beforehand either.

There is no way I would be "more transparent" with the fanbase as some people say they want. Heck, in this case, they promised NOTHING as far as a time frame goes and still we're hearing about the "lateness" of this patch.

It's still spring. Them releasing a video doesn't mean it's coming out right away, just what they're working on.

You guys jump through a lot of hoops to defend amateur communication and that's fine :) There's people that complain about cold food and there's people that don't. It could also be an Australian Spring patch by the way, so better settle in and praise Firaxis for being super duper professional.

The rationalization is kind of funny. It is really not so complicated. If I went out and waved a treat in front of my dog, stuck it in my pocket came back and sat down for two weeks while he sits there drooling I'm a pretty big jerk.
These big modern marketers like to mask it as something positive, but it's not, it's the quick, easy, and abusive way to train and dominate an animal.
People like to pretend we are better than that though, so they make up complicated reasons why they must endure what even dumb animals know is unfair.
I don't think it's Firaxis to blame really though, I think they stick with a publisher that gives them more freedom at the cost of not so great marketing, which they have enough of a name and good will not to really need
-and that's good, it's integrity; a good way to convince an animal to follow your lead of its own volition.
They do try that other way though, they're just kind of looking at what the bigger firms are doing and trying to copy them in their cute awkward nerd hands kinda way.
What they need to realize is that they're dealing with a different market, but they don't do the research to appreciate that fact and how it should change their approach.
So yeah Like Xur says, amateur communications really. But I think that's a strength.
-Except for right now.

I just like to blow things out of proportion though tbh.
It's a good way to pass the time while bored waiting for a thing.
Here's a cute and funny video about monkeys to pass the time.

Also, are you Australian Xur? Who's to say we won't get it in our spring, and you won't get it in your spring? It is "the spring patch" after all. That could be mighty inappropriate to release it in Australia's fall :deal::run:
It might take that long to get past the censorship bureau too. The way Cleo and Gitarja look at you is sure to irredeemably corrupt Australia's youth. :faint::satan::faint:

All this moaning and groaning etc about the patch. When the patch gets here, it does. Firaxis is under no obligation to produce any more patches. They do so, to make constant improvements to the game, in order to sell more expansions, dlc, or the next version when it comes. They have shown that they will make patches for the game, as long as is feasible. When Beyond Earth came out, I believe several weeks later, they released a final patch for CiV. In it they added some new content, fixed some issues

Well, I'm going to get wisdom teeth pulled in about an hour. I wonder what the chances are something good will be waiting for me (I'm talking about the patch;)) when I get home ....

It would be surprising if a patch would hit today. But it would make up for your tooth pain if it does :)

You can play Civ while you are recuperating.

The patch may drop today. I currently have the game open, so it shouldn't update I hope. I do want to finish my game. Not sure what effect these changes will have on my game. I still have a good 60 or so cities I want to conquer. It might actually be close to 100 cities, I haven't counted them. Not likely I'll finish the game in the next few days, however, and I will have to turn my computer off at some point. It's noisy and heats up my room, and runs up my electric bill.
