Star Trek mod - The Next Generation!

Nope, but running Ad-Aware now, ..... Lets see, well some dataminers were indeed on my PC, but no change regarding the Mousetroubles. Thanks for the tip though, I tend to forget to use the antispyware regularly.

Btw. I got another question regarding the forum, how can I add an Image to a post, making it visible.
Do I simply upload the picture and then use the insert image function?

Regarding my computer problems, I can list the most troublesome things, maybe one of you has an idea what to do about it.

Well basically its an AsRock Motherboard with an AMD chipset 2,8 GHZ
The thing that bugs at most is that from the 512 Ram the Motherboard only recognises 458224 as Physical Memory, which indicates a defect in the RAM module or the Motherboard, though I am no expert regarding computer-hardware. Further it seems that either the AGP port of the Motherboard is defect, or the Graphiccard died. I could check this by testing the Graphic-card in my other PC, but somehow I don't want to risk ruining that one, since its a high end machine reserved my my GF to work on. Well and finally I still have that problem with the Mouse, which seems to be based on the System/Motherbords problem to recognise the mouse via the USB ports --> I tried several of them even then one on my TFT monitor.

From my limited view/knowledge about Hardware, it seems more and more realistic, that the Motherboard is going to be dead soon....

Here are still graphics for a Delta Flyer unit; the flc is in attachment. Let me know what you think... :D

@Mentat: maybe you should consider reinstalling your computer?

@Flamand

Looks great to me, have to check it ingame asap :goodjob:

Regarding my PC, I should rather buy either a new motherboard or an entirely new one.

Ok, I have changed the Icons for the Jem Hadar a bit.
Its somewhat better now, I hope you like it that way!
jem_hadar.gif

And some other updated Icons -> Reman_shock_troop, Norexan, 3 Deltaflyermodels, and the respective racial ressources for species8472, jem_hadar and remans

Go with a new computer. You can get a new one after rebates and all that stuff for only $300. Sure it's out of date, but right now those are even better than what I'm using: Intel Celeron 800mhz with 512mb ram

Anyway, a new computer would save you the hassle of finding out that something else was the matter and not your newly replaced motherboard. Could be that your mouse is having problems because you are running out of memory. Have you checked to see how many programs you have running at start up? What's your memory usage at startup? With all the junk that is programed on my computer at start up I can easily have only 70 some % available for use. Once I get to 60 some % my computer locks up. I run msconfig and stop everything that isn't necessary for what I want to do. I have much better results with my computer's behaviour after that. Also, since Civ3 and modding takes up SO much space, how full is your hard drive? Windows uses your free hard drive space as a virtual memory. If your drive is getting full you won't have that much available.
As for your memory being read wrong. Most of the time when the stick says 512 mb it's not really 512 but more like 510 or such. 512 is just the class that it has been put into. Now the number you put in the other post is a good bit off, so there could be a problem there. Especially, if your ram is of a different type than what it can use. Or if you have to different types of supported ram plugged in. There could be many reasons besides a bad motherboard.

But yes, the easiest solution would be a new computer. Pay the BIG bucks and give it to your GF, then take hers. :D

Anywho, back to Star Trek. I've gotten the Borg Diamond into the animation program. Now, I just have to remember how to do the pallete and get it into a flc.......

You are a true romantic... :) But I agree, if reinstalling doesn't work you better buy a new one...

Great, looking forward to the result! Pallettes can be a pain in the bum :( I'm not even sure if the one on the Delta Flyer is acceptable. Can anyone open the flc for a moment and see if the pallette looks right to him?

I downloaded a bunch of space station meshes and will try to do one or two over the weekend...

LoL, well I wouldn't have to take it off her, since it anyways mine, though I honestly got no use for such a potent computer, though turns on XXXL maps would be considerable faster :p . My GF on the other hand studies Graphics and Advertising on the University of applied Arts, and believe me she makes much more use of the PC then I ever could/would (since I am no fan of 3D heavy ego-shooters). I see it at the best, when she starts up Photoshop with, hmm, several thousand fonttypes installed, something that would take aproximatly up to 20 Minutes on my PC, hehe, where as the other is as fast as if you start a "regular" install of Photoshop.

Well back to the topic:
A.) The good news, I got my PC working again pretty well, after some manipulation in BIOS and with msconfig. Somehow the fallout of my Graphiccard had pretty much messed up the entire bios settings, or lets say the old settings for the Graphiccard were not appropriate for the onboard card, ... quite logical, since the onboard card is pretty crappy :(
So it seems all I need is a new Graphic card.

B.) For the next few days I won't be able to work on the MOD, since I have one more exame next wednesday. After that, I should have more time to continue with the work (its anyhow just a minor contribution, just a bit of streamlining and improving). Its too bad that I got no modelling skills, since the most important thing would be to make new unit models and animations.

I'm not even sure if the one on the Delta Flyer is acceptable. Can anyone open the flc for a moment and see if the pallette looks right to him?

I don't even have an idea, what kind of tool I could use to open/create a .flc
Though, ingame the deltaflyer looks ok. Btw, I converted the Runabout.ini and sounds for the Deltaflyer.

Deleted entry, since the earlier reply got posted 2 times

I found a great site for Star Trek meshes (Studio3D max format) and images: http://www.startrekaustralia.com/newindex.htm
Been there done that. Just keep in mind that a bunch of those are copyright protected... Most don't have a problem if you're going to use it in a game mod, but it's best to try to get permission. The few I tried to get permission from never bother to respond or their e-mail no longer worked....

In that case we just include their names in a readme. This guy is very strong on copyrights, so I suppose he will appreciate that gesture. If they don't reply I suppose they don't care if their meshes are used in Civ...

Here are a couple of space stations unit (no animations): http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/Stations.zip

The animations are quite large on purpose as they should be more impressive than starships... :)

I was thinking maybe we should include the cool Vulcan ships from ENT as well. I tried to find meshes of them, but so far no succes... Does anyone know such a mesh? I found one, but it is in NIF format, which cannot be opened by any program I know... :(

Looks really great... :goodjob: Your units are getting better all the time... :)

I started working on an animated unit of my own: the Bajoran interceptor. It's not finished yet, the attack still seems a bit wrong to me. Let me know what you think...

It's good for a first start. However, you've got some major palette issues.
Where to start? It's complicated. I don't know what programs you use. Look at my Borg unit. The Diamond. Use Flicster to view the animation then create a storyboard. Look at the storyboard in your paint program. Check out the palette for the Diamond. You should see a bunch of entries for the same color. Those are reserved for Civ3. Don't use them. The random civ color is located within those entries. Your unit will currently look like CRAP within the game.

I had used civ color within in my first borg units. But it can cause issues with game programming because you have to define a specific color for that civ to use. We all know what the Borg units are. So with the recent ones I decided to drop civ color all together...

EDIT: I looked at the other flics...
Your death has an issue. It needs to start with your unit. The unit blows up breaks up whatever and the explosion (since it's a ship) covers the whole unit and the model is then removed from the animation.

Your attack does look weird.
1 make your picture area larger 240x240 is the max.
(keep the unit the same size mind you)
2 add an explosion at the location of the point of impact. Otherwise when attacking, it will only look like duds hitting the hull of the other ship..

:END EDIT

PS EDIT: What programs are you using?

Thanks for the suggestions! :) I'll try to take a look at the pallettes tonight. I use studio 3d max 7 for the modelling, Photoshop CS for the storyboard and Civ3FlcEdit for the animations.
The death animation is just a placeholder, I was still planning to add the ship. And the dud bullets should have explosions, like you say.

Well first of all, all the new additions look very promising, and I hope all the flaws and problems with the animations will be overcome.

I unfortunately had a not so good time over the past few days, since I simply became ill, but still had to learn and attend the exames. Believe me its quite horrible to do so if you are feverish with contant headache.

Nevertheless I had my last exame today and it seems that I perfomed better at it as I thought I would be able to. I will take my time now to get in better shape, but will start with some more modifications and implement the new graphics as soon as I get bored staying in bed ;).

Keep up the great work, its really awesome what you have accomplished so far.

I tried to make a list of all available units and a number of units I wanted to propose myself. Since it was hard to keep track of all proposals over the last couple of weeks I left the unit statistics blank for now. Maybe Mentat can fill them in if he's feeling up to it...
Orange in the lists means a proposal by me, red means 'animation unavailable' and pink 'animation incomplete'.

For the minors I propose 5 ship types, but with unique units for some civs (see last tab). For the Borg I saw a couple of pretty cool non-canon ships on the Star Trek Austrialia website, just an idea... :)

In the mean time the reworked Bajoran unit is going well, should be finished in a couple of days...
