Thanks for all the pictures scipio, i think i can use them. If i can the units for this mod will go a bit quicker.

Also, the gamorreans are going to be units for the Hutt civ.

You've some great ideas here. A Star Wars mod would be fantastic, but just one question... There are all these ideas for civilization specific units, but what about non-specific units? I mean, all of these Star Wars civs would have few units in common. A few of the ships with the Empire and the Rebels, maybe, but what will the Gungans have in common with the Sith?
 
Wow this is gonna be a mamoth feat to achieve. A real major overhaul of all the world graphics would be good too, new resources, etc etc, could be race specific maps that chart major events.

Just thinking would it be possible to make a space map where say the water is space and land is something like a giant asteroid or something like that? Just thinking of strange ideas.

I have a degree in 3D graphics, and might be able to help with even more high resolution 3D stills for cilivopedia, wonders, etc plus I got years of exp in Photoshop. Sounds like a cool mod, can prollly also look at units in that Galactic Battlegrounds game, they are approx same size as ones we'd need to use.
 
Can't wait your mod. But just to add some more questions, what you have planned for terrain graphics? I Think here is also serious need for discussing about that. I would also like to see some pics here if possible.

Tundras need to be Hoth-like, deserts like from Tatooine etc. (we need Sarlacc for the deserts!)

Empire-related areas could look more industrious and man altered than other areas.

Is there need for specific custom made maps where the starting locations are made after movies/planets or just generated automatically?

That space could fit far more better to Star Wars Universe than water! That is quite essential part of the universe.. In Star Wars movies there is not so much water and space instead of water could give more character to the mod.

Could it be possible to make "wormholes"/"hyperspace ports" which could offer fast connection between certain points? Or could some races have certain units to do that? Or preferably certain technology? Of course at the start of the game star vessels aren't capable to travel "deep space".

One more idea:
If the "sea" is "space" then there could be three different "air" units.

1: Basic air units moves only in land (speeders for example)
2: Deep space units which travels only in "space" areas (Star destroyers for example) These units instead of boats.
3: Multipurpose vessels which are capable traveling also at land and deep space (x-wings for example)

I can also help with the graphics, just let me know if help is needed!
 
Actually, water is pretty important, because the Mon Calamari and the Gungans (which will likely be included in the mod) are species that live and thrive primarily in water. In fact, Mon Calamari itself is a water planet. Besides, I don't think Civ3's editor is capable of changing water to space, because units can only be classified as land, sea, or air--not space. I do think it would be great if we could add space as a terrain type, but right now it's not possible to add terrain types. Another thing that would be great is if settlers could be given the ability to build cities on water, like in Alpha Centauri. That would really make the mod more realistic, especially for the Gungans and the Mon Calamari. Also, having multiple maps and being able to travel between them as if they are different planets would be awesome, too...
 
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that if you rename coast, sea, and ocean squares to "space" squares, the units you would classify as "deep space units" (which you would call "sea" units in the editor) might not be able to travel over the space squares. I would imagine that when you classify a unit as "sea," the game automatically looks for the terrain types of coast, sea, and ocean to determine whether or not the sea unit can traverse a given terrain square. Therefore, it can only traverse terrain squares named as coast, sea, or ocean.

As I said, I'm not certain on that but if the game does work that way, then "deep space units" would not even be able to travel over "space" squares, which would defeat the purpose of having space squares altogether. The best method would be if we could add space to the possible classifications for units, so there could be land, sea, air, and space units, but I doubt Firaxis will ever give us that ability.
 
I mean we don't need to add any "space" terrain specification or unit classification or make any changes to game itself. It's possible to change only the look of the "sea" to "space", right? That would make "sea ships" to "space ships", right?

Also, that would make "isles" to "meteors", "moons" and "planets", depending on size and look. Maybe part of "water" tiles used in maps could be saved as water and rest as "space".

Basically I don't know anything about modifying civ3, but it doesn't sound impossible.

I didn't mean that there isn't any water in star wars universe, but the space IS much more important when we are talking about Star Wars mod? Of course there is Mon Calamari and the Gungans, but much more units or species which are more related into space.

So, at least I'm not loading my Dark Siths into any Trireme! ha.
 
I will be changing the apprearance of coast, sea, and ocean to space. I will also be changing rivers and flood plains to water, to make up for the lack of it. Though all units will probably be able to walk over it(unless i can figure out a way to edit it) at least the graphical changes will make it appear more realistic. I will also be changing most of the rest of the graphics also. I will make probably make maps that go along with the movies, but probably not until the rest of the mod is done. As for units, im trying to come up with some basic units that work for all civs. As of yet, one unit is complete (r2 droid) and that was made by Plastic Bag. If you want you can download it in the units section. Thanks for all your support and ideas!
