heh, great base unit file scipio, that could probably be used for alot of different units!

Hello! I am new (actually I signed up just for helping with this mod:D ) and I think this is great! I love Star Wars (though I am not as knowledgeable as some here) and I love Civ3, so this is perfect for me.

IMHO you should ignore the races that require water so that you can make all of the races play similarly.
(If it's possible) change:
regular - apprentice
veterav - master
elite - high-master [???]

I am not skilled in 3D graphics, nor use of the editor, but I can help with ideas.

And nEo, I might be able to host a small site (though I am completely unsure), so I'll keep you posted on that...

Edit:
I was reviewing the first pages of the thread, and the Sand People were discussed, and I don't think any one really decided abot them, but I totally support them being the Barbarians...

Only my humble opinion...

You guys are definately fanatics!

I also can't offer you help with graphics or editing, but could give you web space or help making the web site. Just give me a shout.

An idea I had was that if you change the sea to space, then the coast squares could be atmosphere, so that early ships would only be able to fly through the atmosphere until deep space travel was invented (so space navigation could replace navigation and deep space travel could replace magnetism).

Elite should be Jedi Council

LOL, but no. The point in my idea was to make it fit the setting and fit most races, not lnoy Jedi. There are apprentices also in the sith, but maybe the origianl (regular/veteran/elite) system is still best...

There is no Sith Council otherwise I would have put Council
Ranks of each side as follows:
Apprentice
Knight
Master
Council Member
Master Council Member
Legend, is when you die as a hero for the sake of the ultimate in the Force your soul, radiance, and body

Perfect example of a Legend is Exar Kun, greatest Sith of the Jedi/Sith Wars and creator of the double-bladed lightsaber.
A more recent Legend is Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith and sidearm to the Emperor was the most powerful Sith to ever live.

Actually Freedon Nadd was more powerful than the emporer, and vader. Tuskens are the barbarians. Im keeping the water races in for diversity, though ive decided not to change the flood plain to water. Sea units will be useless unless they come out with an editor that can add terrain types. Ive found a good opening movie, the only problem is its 50 mb. So if anyone wants to have the video, id have to either email to them, or find a free web-site that has alot of space on it.

Changing the regular, veteren, and elite names wouldnt really work because not all races are force-jedi oriented. Also, if anyone wants to create the unit Gonk (my favorite droid) i really want to add him in. If you dont know who gonk is, its the droid in the sandcrawler that looks like a trash can :D

He's one of the original sith lords. He killed Exar Kun and resurrected him with the dark side.

This is getting out of hand. There is no way that any those smaller civ's should be in there, because they don't fit into the scale of Civ3. Also, what use are single droid units? I can see IG-88 as a hero, "one only" unit, but who has ever heard of R2-D2 or any other normal droid taking out a stormtrooper battalion? You are all getting too enthralled with the small-scale things that you read in the short stories. Forget them. Just use stuff from the movies and novels. Star Wars scenarios are best when they only concern the "grand scale" conflict between the Empire and the Rebellion or New Republic. The ones for Civ2 that looked like what this is turning into were crap, pardon mon fracais. I know this sounds like advertising, and maybe it is, but I personally think that my mod is on the right track. It's not as far ahead, and will hit a block pretty soon because of the current limits of the editor, but I have some pretty innovative ideas. Read about them here.

Thats nice skywalker, no one really cares what your opinion is, everyone is entitled to their own. If you have a problem with my mod, then dont get it and dont use the units designed for it. Smaller civs? This is a game designed to be fun, if a civ works then use it. Also i started this mod with the idea that it would be like civ3, you starting your civ from nothing and working it up. Dont tell people what to think:

R2 units are basic workers that Plastic Bag and I decided to give the ability to defend itself.

Have you played civ before? Civ is not designed to have 2 civs duking it out with one another. It is supposed to be a game of diplomacy, war, building, researching and trading. How is this supposed to be possible with only 2 civs? Once again, if you have a problem with my mod, keep it to yourself and dont download it.

All this from the person who is begging people to review his idea :goodjob: Good Job!

Two points:

First, I am reviewing your mod, just as I want people to review mine.

Second, in case you've never seen the movies, Star War was in essence two civs duking it out with each other. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be minor civs; in fact, I'm planning on including the Chiss, Corporate Sector, Vong, and Hutts into my scenario. These are mostly going to be used via events, not as major players, though. What I am against is using redundant tribes, or tribes constrained to a single planet or smaller. For example, the Mon Cals were part of the Rebel Alliance, and therefore will not be a seperate civ. The Jawas would be a poor choice, as well; not only were they no where near having any real influence on the galaxy, but they would mean that Tatooine wouldn't be with the Hutts or the Alliance. I suspect the heart of the problem here is that yours is a MOD and mine is a SCENARIO. You want it to be something that just changes the rules around to give a "Star Wars" look and feel. I want to create a semi-structured, objective-based game apart form Civ3.

Thus why its called a star wars MOD. And i sure know a hell of alot about star wars for someone whos never seen the movies :D

Hey nEo! I hope that you read this post... Is was wondering if you could make the AT ST for the star wars mod instead of me, because if you made it, it would look a lot better, since you can do 3D modeling and all. I don't really want to work on it anyways, whenevr I work on it, I end up working on another project.

Well, could you do this for me sometime (doesn't matter when) or are you to busy?

Im not exactly the best html coder so..... if anyone is, go to www.gizba.com and they have FREE websites with up to 500 megs. Only problem is it all has to be done in html. This would be a great help once this mod starts progressing more. :)

B.T.W I cant take credit for finding Gizba, stainz found it so kudos to him :D

tpasmall, I've been testing your A-Wing unit in the game (as well as my TIE Interceptor) and I'm not sure if all of the sounds that you included with the A-Wing are in the right format. The "run" sound works OK in the game, but the attack sound doesn't--Civ3 just makes some strange beeping sound. I haven't had any situations so far where I would hear any of the other sounds, so I don't know if those ones are OK or not. As it turns out, Civ3 is very picky with sounds, and it won't use just any .wav file. I just thought you should know that since you made the unit, and people have downloaded it. Also, I have been testing my TIE Interceptor and the sounds I've found for it to make sure they work before I officially say that the unit is finished.

Another question: As I understand it, only the Empire will be able to build TIE Interceptors, so I haven't included civ colors. Is that the case, or will it be built by more than one civ, in which case I will add civ colors to the unit? IMO, having TIE Interceptors with different colors on them would ruin the Star Wars "feel," but if it's necessary I can change the graphics.
