Star Wars Mod

Maybe for Civilizations:a Hutt Clan, an Imperial Empire, a Rebel Alliance,

Minor Civs: Ewoks, Guangans, maybe Droids or old Republic

2 scenarios...episodes I-III and episodes IV-VI

That would be great. We have a few ships that can be converted from Civ4, but not many units (IIRC just a Stormtrooper, a Wookiee and a Wookiee Clubman). Having something like a Mon Calamari would be very nice.

For the mon cal, do you want civilian clothes (I'm thinking of clothes like the minuteman, because those look star wars-y) or camo? I'm going to model it off one of the existing infantry (since mon cal are basically humans with rubber masks and webbed hands) but I'll need you to send me the model you want me to use (I don't have civ 5 on the computer I usually use)

edit: send it to orangedream13@gmail.com.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to extract the art assets =/

Good luck with this MOD! I am a bit bored of the vanilla CiV game, and a huge fan of Star Wars.

is this still alive?

I'd be very interested in how this mod comes along. The most notably I want to steal the graphics for my own space 4x mod. :)

As for actual contributions, I love the concept of space stations and I'll look into some design ideas and more importantly implementation of them.

Now, one concept that will be a significant departure from Civilization is that Star Wars is presented as a kind of eternal setting. There's no exploration and discovery going on, just shifting in balances of powers. You may want to consider some possibilities of internal conflict and such to compensate for skipping two of the 4Xs. Or include the two Xs even if it doesn't make much sense for the setting.

I hope so! I have been busy lately but I should have some time over the next few weeks to work on it. I dunno where everyone else has gone, it's not like you need me to hold your hand, guys! :P

Fantastic. Maybe EaW has some graphics we can use?

To me the exploration part is the Empire searching for the rebel base. Whatever the explored status of tiles, most of the map won't be visible to the imperials, so they'll be out there exploring. The Rebels not so much, but I fear they'll have plenty on their plate just surviving and besides, they'll be busy diplomising (is that a word?) the independent systems.

any idea when this mod will be completed....can't wait
Me too! The more people who help (right now there's not too many...), the sooner it'll be done.

this mod sounds good but the reguler earth map wont be big enough u will need alot of other planets for this

It's going to use a procedurally generated map of the star wars galaxy, rather than a planetary map. Hopefully it'll look a bit like the Final Frontier map - in fact if it's possible we'll be borrowing the art from FF

So i've never done any modding, but the first game i found out about modding is Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. http://swgb.heavengames.com/ That is the site for a good number of mods and the game itself gives great graphics if you can use it. Also, about the exploratory thing, there is the part of the galaxy called the unknown regions, and there is also deep space, if that helps... This is a great mod, and if i can help, please ask, i dont know anything about modding CiV but i know more than my share about star wars, EU and the movies

If I were to do something like this (and it actually was a pretty close call between Star Wars and WH40K) I'd start off by rummaging through other Star Wars games to see which ones are moddable, try to export units and see how they work in Civ 5. Then look for problems. For example I tried getting units in from DoW1 but they really didn't fit with the Civ 5-engine, plus they didn't export with all the needed bones. Then I tried DoW2 and got perfect results. I guess I was pretty lucky but with all the Star Wars-games I'm sure there are many options.

Then I'd try to think of some theme from Star Wars, probably the Force, and see how some version of it could be implemented. To me it've never seemed like a religion-like aspect from Civ 4 with alignments spreading around the cities, it've always seemed to be more of something based on units. At-least as far as I remember from games and movies there's always this "one" guy either turning light or dark. I think that could be used...

There are events in LUA for when units are built, attack etc. then you can keep track of whatever data you want. I think perhaps it could be fun with these Jedi-units being built, then whenever they engage in combat they turn more to the dark side, sent on diplomatic missions they turn more good. I think there's some diplomacy-mod centered around diplomatic units that move about. Something from that could probably be borrowed for the Light Jedis moving around. Then of-course there'd need to be some implication if you got a Jedi killing too many units, and getting more powerful (regardless of how the Dark Side isn't more powerful). Maybe some form of revolt? Creating a new civilization close to the Dark Jedi?

Anyway, just some thoughts... Also I'm thinking about looking into making a map-script that generates planet-like islands in a a galaxy-map if you want to save some time, if you're still working on this.

One more thing, I'd also not be too strict about factions, exploring and such. Though maybe the Empire could be some barbarian-type civilization, then the factions could be represented by rebel-groups so you wouldn't have to give up diplomacy... Alternatively it could all be in that sketchy time-period between episode 3 and 4, then perhaps some thought-through factions could be established and what's more is units from both time-periods could be used. This way also something resembling a reasonable tech-tree could be made.
