Star Wars: The Mod - Unit requests

Hmm. Well, the one in the beta was funky, do I tried this one. Maybe it would'nt look as bad if I showed you the correct pallette sb version?

The MTT looks good.

the guns look a bit static - arent they meant to be quite powerful? you could have the MTT like shift back a few pixels to make it look like theres alot of energy in the shots...
and couldn't you vary the shots a bit? it looks like its been done quite hastily? for instance, triple the size and make the lasers come out in a flurry of three per gun or something......

otherwise its good...

I agree that it should be made to look to have more powerful shots. But there are actually 2 laser cannons on both mountings and so when firing they should have 2 laser bolts from each side.

I've been working on a better AT-TE for a while now and I'm almost done. It's now going to be small enough to fit in the tile and have way better attack anims with an improved palette. AttackA is just going to be the heavy laser cannon firing for bombardment and AttackB is going to have the anti-infantry lasers firing with the heavy laser cannon.

I've attached a preview for AT-TEAttackB at the end of this post. Are there any comments on improving it before I finish and post the completed unit?

NOTE: FLC2GIF makes objects appear darker and less detailed than they really are :o

Very nice. I love the large artillery piece on the top, looks great. The alternating laser attack on the front pieces are great too.

It looks great. I like the attack of the heavy projectile cannon. Having the anti-personel laser cannons fire too is a cool feature.

i got a unit idea as well.I've been playing Star Wars Battlefront2 and came to find that u can play a multitude of characters of the movie series, and one has come to my mind -the snowmonster that Luke Skywalker fought in underground tundra in the planet Hoth.I think that would be an awesome unit to not only to make but it can accomodate to other mods as well.

Maybe we should try to get some more Confederacy units like the NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer (Corporate Alliance droid tank), OG-9 homing spider droid, and the dwarf spider droid.

Somebody should also make Confederate warships like the Munificent-class star frigate, the Recusant-class light destroyer, and the Providence-class carrier-destroyer. Someone should also try to redo the Trade Federation Lucrehulk-class battleship.

One last thing. Which technique do you all use to make units? I've heard of several but I dont know which would be the best.

There are models for all of those Capital Ships out there...I actually have them all...but no one seems interested. I for one can't put them in game, I have no idea how, but like I said...no one seems interested enough to do them.

The wampa would be a pretty cool unit, but we don't really have much of a use for it for the SW mod so it probably won't get made.

In that case there is Prolly no Taun-Taun is there?(I know...my spelling is off)

I would be so into doing a HOTH scenario as soon as I get through with testing on BfNY

@Darth Bob - There already is a Persauder-class Droid Enforcer (aka Tank Droid) and a Homing Spider Droid and after I get done fixing the Republic units I'm going to fix those 2 along with the Hailfire Droid. Eventually we'll get to the Dwarf Spider Droid. We really do need some Separatist Warships.

I use both the Cut'n'Paste and 3-d Modeling techniques to make units. Most of the units I've made are conversions from the game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and once I get them into pcx storyboard format, I do some Cut'n'Paste work with the attack animations. For 3-d Models I get a model of off the internet and use Anim8or and OpenFX to tweak the model and animate into a Civ3 unit. You seem interested in making units so I'm guessing you're going to ask some more questions about unit making. ;)

@Blackhand - I wouldn't mind asking for those models, but right now I'm working on fixing older units that have major problems which I still have almost a dozen to go, so it will be a while before I'd actually work on those ships.

@Spacer One - The Rebels will get the Tauntaun Rider for their mounted unit. Yes, there is going to be a Hoth scenario along with several other scenarios once we get the core mod done. :)

OK blackhand, i'm a moron when it comes to programming, but i can make units, so i'm sure you can too.
Programs you will need:
- Open FX
- aaaaaany file that opens gifs
-Flicster [or steph's program]

steps to make space unit (heh, they're so easy even i can do them)
1. Open 3DS model up in [open FX] 'designer'. Make sure the model is sensible (as in all in one piece). Set some random spots on the top to a dark blue colour (for civ colours) by deselecting all vertices (ctrl + D), and carefully selecting the part you want civ-coloured and change colour to blue and remove all maps from it.

2. (a smaller step) - save 3DS as a .MFX

3. You will need the 'template' for unit design - and this is available on http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=1720533&postcount=9 from morpheus.

4. Open template, and add new actor (your .mfx). You can make it wobble if you like, or something, so its not just stationary and boring, and thats vaguely explained here; http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=84833

5. Once down you will have to export - click on render, and select 'animation', 'flc', and choose where you want it to go, and choose a size which is about 300 x 200 pixels

6. Use flc to gif to convert the flc into X number of gif images. Open up an existing flc in flicster, and resize it to be the same as what you've jsut made. Now open up all the gifs and copy and paste them into the right row in order (one on the left, last on the right).

7. Now go back to open FX, and choose a different camera angle, and repeat the whole process.

-----------------
That does the default nimation, i can;t do death anims yet (too complicated :$) but for attack anims, you can either make the ship rock a bit, or move back a bit when the lasers come out or something, but otherwise you can just copy and paste one of the frames from the default anim many times.
----------------
attack anim :)

basically what i did for mine, was get the B-Wing and A-Wing models [chris85 and.....someone else, sorry can't remember who] and use the laser shots from these two ships, playing about with them a bit, so that a little stream of shots come out from wherever the gun explacements may be. And there you have almost all of a new unit. Takes less than a day to get a relatively decent job, and you don't have to worry about palletes because the existing civ unit already had them.

I'll give it a try this weekend maybe. I think your mini-tutorial here makes more sense than the one posted in the tutorial forum, so we'll see how it goes.
