Stargate BtS

Have you decided it or is it only a possibility?

In second case, I would to say that a land-based only mod give no enough justice to SG imo.

As it is a space opera, featuring several planets, I think that keep stuck on a single map/planet is too few.

Anyway, I do know the hardness of such a aim so nobody can complain about.

I had a few ideas for further stages of the mod, like scenarios on alternate reality earth during a goauld invasion.

If "we" (you) have to keep the land only strategy, we could develop it as such a scenario.

As long as to have all SG civs in one land map only is far from canon and have no all means needed to recreate the its feeling IMO.

Let us know. ;)

Anyway thanks for your project and good work.

My suggest was about this: as long as you have no experience in modding FF, developing a earth-based scenario.

Set in an alternate reality just like "what if" O'Neill can not make contact with Asgard and they didn't stop goauld invasion.

This will turn aim a lot simpler, and depending on success of the mod will allow you to find more collaborators.

This is the tought I had, just a suggestion by the way. ;)

I've been corresponding with stolenrays about adding new units based on models from Stargate:Empire at War (great mod for Star Wars Empire at War). I will soon be sending him the models to work with in Blender. Hopefully he'll be able to use them.

I've now started working on the founding videos. They'll run at 1.30-2.00 minutes. If you check on the previous page you can see my clip choices. However, I have a poll to make: I've found two more clips to use for the False Gods vid:The rebellion on Abydos from the original movie, and when Teal'c confronts Gerak in The Fourth Horseman Part 2 (Season 9). What clips should I use?

I run immediately to see them all, then I make you know ;)

Fantastic news

See you soon (well, here's 1.35 am, so I CAN fall asleep)

EDIT: I did misunderstood what you meant for "see my clip choices". You meant the text list, isn't it? When we can see the clips? ;)

OK, I've just readen the full list - nice updates!

Here my impressions:

Goauld worship:

Stargate-first reveal of Ra
SG-1-Children of the Gods-1-Reveal of Sha're as Goauld wife of Apophis
SG-1-Evolution Part 2-7-Kull warriors bowing before Anubis

I can only vote for my own suggestion you kindly received - number 2.

But also the first would be proper one.

I think the third is not proper because of Anubis was kinda singular case, he's no longer a goauld after ascension and ban but a "spirit" like creature. His newly invented "system" don't show typical Gouald.

Asgard Worship:
Spoiler:
SG-1-Thor's Hammer-1-People shouting 'Thor!'
SG-1-Thor's Chariot-2- A moment with the holographic Thor
SG-1-Red Sky- 5- When they are talking to holographic Freyr

All fit perfectly, btw I vote again for my suggestions: number 1 & 2. Freyr was way lesser common. ;)

False Gods:
Spoiler:
SG-1- Children of th Gods- 1- When Teal'c rebels agains the other Jaffa
SG-1-The Serpent's Lair- 2- When Bra'tac confronts Klorel/Skaara ("I die free!)
SG-1- The Tok'ra Part 1- 2-When Cordesh says "I am not a Goauld"
Any moment when Teal'c says he no longer worships false gods

Anyone is good, but I prefere first one: more epic, famous and stuff. Or 2nd. Personal taste matter also.

Origin:

whichever do you prefere, I didn't ever came to this part of series (I' m at SG1 final seasons though).

Ascension:
Spoiler:
SG-1- Maternal Instinct- 3- Encounter with the monk and Oma
SG-1- Meridian- 5- When Daniel ascends
Atlantis- Epiphany- 2- Meditating with the People of the Cloister

As always, I vote btw for my own choice: first one. I also think First Contact are best for such purpose.

Technology:
Spoiler:
Stargate- first activation of Stargate
SG-1-Prometheus - 6- Promeheus taking off
SG-1- Flesh and Blood- 10-Odyssey in hyperspace, beaming a 'sandwich'
SG-1- Unending- 10- Destroying an Ori ship
Atlantis- First Strike- 3- Asuran stargate laser

As you can immagine, I vote for 1st one, but I still like to be "neutral" and say that Prometheus would be great also.

Others fit better with next (sci-fi) imo.

I just repeat myself: I would prefere this to be called "progress" to have for at least one religion linked directly to Tau'ri ideas.

I also think there is no or few difference in concept between "tech" and "sci-fi"...

You decide. ;)

Sci-fi:
Spoiler:
SG-1- Ascension- 5- Teal'c and O'neill bring pizza and Star Wars
Atlantis- The Lost Boys- 2- Sheppard asking for R2 to shut off auto-pilot
SG-1- 200- 10- Star Trek sequence, maybe Farscape
Universe trailer- Hoth system moment

Totally the first one: is too much cool to even think to sacrify it. But all of these are great.

You got my opinions pale. ;)

Allow me to make my argument for technology...

Many cultures in the Stargate universe have almost a reverential respect for their technology. The Tollans withheld their phasing and ion cannon tech from Sg-1. The Ancients developed many different devices and powerfuls ships and weapons. The asgard depend on cloning technology to survive, and are constantly trying to come up with better weapons to fight the Replicators. Heck, the replicators themselves are a technology. And, of course, one of SG-1's primary mandates is to find new technologies to help defend against their enemies. It just seems fitting to have a religion called technology.

Sci-fi, on the other hand, is all about being a geeky fanboy, observing the nuances of Captain Kirk's dialogue, celebrating Star Wars Day (May 4th, May the Fourth be with you...), and attending conventions dressed up as Doctor Who. Simple as that.

Speaking of which, I thought of another clip to use in Sci-fi: Felger and Coombs arguing about the 'Altar of Rodenberry'. I might just make that the holy city building.

I agree with you, this is pure truth.

Well, some errors apart (Tollan did share their tech to a primitive population on their system which misuse lead to both worlds destruction - that' s the reason of their cautions)

Anyway, the general argument is perfectly true, advanced races in stargate do almost venerate their technology (a link to our modern life? how many times a day do we use this word?)

So, having such a religion is quite good, I admit.

But it is also true that besides the excellent particular argumentations, in a sci-fi ambientation the two terms usually mean the same thing.

This is not the case of SG, but for players' feeling it seems like a duplication.

If we also consider that as you stated also Replicators are at least likely to have Tech religion, the argument they moved to me about them to be agnostic ceases to exist.

So I ask: isn't better to have a single religion concerning those ideas that are in fact different parts of the same thing

- the belief in the advances provided by tech and their cool-ness - in a word, Progress? -
and another more specific for another race such Propagation of Species?

I admit I do like to see one of my own religions ingame, but I also think it would be good really.

Anyway, thanks for your kindness, I want to see the clips. :D

Let me know

I didn't make an error, I assumed you knew that.It also helps my argument.

The 'Propagation of Species' idea I intend to implement as a civic. I do not know what category, nor am I sure what gameplay effects it will have. I am not opposed to the idea, as not only the Replicators but the Asgard and the Tok'ra have an interest in maintaining their species/culture, as well as other minor cultures. I'm thinking of calling it 'Proliferation of Species', to make it more formal and easier to understand.

I do not get how 'Progress'= Technology + Sci-fi, so I'm going to keep it the way it is. However, that's another idea for a civic.

I may release one (or two) of the founding vids on Youtube. I don't want to give away too much, to make sure you download the next version ;) . To be honest, I've never uploaded to youtube ever, so this will be a first for me.

Ignore the face in the post title, I didn't put it there.

Thanks. Mine was not a critic, I just wanted to point out.

Civic idea is great, as long as it is a good think for a mod to have it, and I think a total conversion has to have it just like new civs and such.

I think it's better to wait until we (you) have a good idea on how much and which many new civics we'll have, then put them in a scheme and complete it.

When you do upload the clips, let us know. ;)

as one who saw sg-1 2-3 times, Atlantis and universe,
and a civ fanatic,

i wanted to show my support for tis mod, i do hope it wont get abandoned before its ready like a lot of other mods, total conversion is a lot of work, i know...:)

good luck.

Thank you for your support. It'll be a big hill to climb, but I'll take it one step at a time and get there in the end. :goodjob:

Incredible.

We were uncertain of which video to use, and you mixed them all... amazing.

I was :scared:

Sorry for the long wait, had Internet issues last week.

So, in order to make up for lost time, and as a special treat, I've decided to hold off the 'Asgard Worship' vid for later and upload the Origin video. This is done a little differently that the other vids so far, and should be entertaining to watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr5nRp_HplQ

The only vids that have yet to be completed are Ascension and Technology.

P.S. I mean no disrespect to 4lexander (reading your posts keep me going, knowing that you care about my work), but I would love to hear from the (hopefully) many others who have read this thread. Your thoughts count, too, and this my way of giving back to the Civfanatics community. Plus, someone had to work on this sooner or later ;).

To all Stargate fans: Hallowed are the Ori!:bowdown::bowdown:

I don't usually play mods, and I hardly have time to play at all these days, but I'm a big fan of SG so I actually intend to play this mod when it is completed.
I hope that counts for something ;)

Keep up the good work!
