Starlifter is back!

Now I remember you, though until recently I just observed the threads rather than joining in in them. So you won't have a bean who I am.

Hey, good to see you back Starlifter! I'll have to go look at the CivII advice section again now (haven't been there, well, probably since you left!). Your advice really improved my game!

As for our old political discussions--I'm looking forward to some more, lol....

Take care! Are you just on leave now, or are you back home for good, until your reserve unit is called again?

(BTW my post count may be a little deceptive--I was once just "allan" until the server seemed to permanently lose my password....)

Ahhh.... So he finally got around to posting here. I think that was actually chapters 2-4 in the newest book: STARLIFTER: LOST AND FOUND

P.S. It will go on sell in June.

this must be the first time i´ve read through a whole starlifter post.

welcome back

:goodjob:

by Simon D.:

"This Song's For You" is still going, with such great bands as Lufthansa Terminal making an appearence.

I found out it has moved to a totally new thread because the orignal got full. Anyone seen SlowwHand or boann? They were profilic song posters.

About Luftansa Terminal: I have not heard of this band, but I wonder about their name.... because.... if anyone is familiar with Frankfurt, and the Airport in particular, there is (literally) an underground, all-night place that really rocks all night, and closes at noon the next day. It is at the Luftansa Terminal!! That was a great place (hope it still is).... I could tell some tales about Frankfurt, hehe.... but I have not been there in several years, since the US returned most of the east side (the USAF side) of the international airport back to Germany.

PS, Ramstein is the primary hub for the US mil in Germany now.

If their music has lots of base, and a thumping repeating beat to it, then they were probably influenced by the "real" Luftansa Terminal!!!

I will combine a couple posts at a time

by civ1-addict:

... Maybe you can join in on the democracy game...

I stopped in there to see what was going on. If Kev and Andu were doing something, I figured it had to be interesting!! I made a short post to find out what it was, and will return in a couple days when I'm more caught up :).

Survivors Starlifter???
There are no surviviors
Im touched such a fantastic supreme poster like yourself rembembers a lowly poster like me...

(and why havenmt you got civ3 yet - silly boy)

I remember you well, plus your name is pretty unique!

Hehe... I do have Civ 3, and downloaded all the patches, and read the install issues. But I've decided to wait until I upgrade my aging, slow machine, plus I'll have more time in a month or two. Meanwhile, I'm glad to see there is still interest in Civ 2... which is still a great game no matter what else comes down the pike!

PS, it's my own opinion (dutifully submitted last year when TF asked for input) that post counts not be placed next to each post. IMHO, if someone has something to say, they should post... some of the best posts can come from newbies, and pretty bad ones can come from high-count posters.... in other words, one should not correlate post count with the relevance of the post (or poster). So... I try not to even look at the post count of people, unless there is something odd or newbie-ish about the post. Or if they're just inanely spamming (from last fall, sixchan springs to mind). :) Conversely, a low-count, highly informative poster (for example) that I always read when he posts in Civ 2 is SlowThinker.

by Knight-Dragon:

Wow, what a characteristically-starlifteresque post; with all the LOLs and the sheer length.

LOL, you are possibly the originator of a new word for the English Language... drop a note to the folks at Oxford, and maybe Merriam Webster, and you'll be immortalized!!!

PS, They won't really add it until it is widely used in lexicon. LOL. :).

Hey starlifter, read your pms and clear them so i can pm you!! Oh yeah, did you get the e-mail I sent you??

Also, are you back for good now, or are more leaves to be expected?

by Floppa21:

I don't jump on over the weekend so imagine my surprise when I see I have 2 new PM's... I nevber get those things! Then to see they're from Starlifter!! Couldn't reply since his mailbox was full but I am also glad to see you back man!

Glad to be back to good ol' CFC, and it's really great to see that most of the older-timers from last year are still here, as well as lots and lots of new people! Civ 3 seems to have really helped, and Smash said there's been some bundling of Civ 2 with other games that may be getting some people in.

I didn't know PMs were "bouncing"... I'll go through and clean it out about Wednesday or so; thanks.

Now I remember you, though until recently I just observed the threads rather than joining in in them. So you won't have a bean who I am
.

I know 3 of the most important things: You're interested in Civ, you read the forums, and you take the time to post!!! Glad you're joining in to whatever threads and sections interest you. Lurking is cool, esp. to get the idea of what to do and all... hopefully, other 0-post CFC-ers hop on in and post to whatever topics and threads they like.

Hehe.... so I knew a little bit more than you might have thought :).

Glad to return the favor. I've learned tons and tons from not only the posts, war academy, etc, but by playing the games, esp. GOTMs. So it is a continuation of the circle of knowledge :).

As for our old political discussions--I'm looking forward to some more, lol....

Oh, I remember those very well!!! I could spend days just in the OT, hehe.

Take care! Are you just on leave now, or are you back home for good, until your reserve unit is called again?
Actually, I think only the Tanker guys had unit call ups. Airlift was more of a by-need thing below the unit level, but there were some units that had a lot of people going to various tasks. The Iraq thing will probably be a bigger operation, and maybe lots of unit callups.

(BTW my post count may be a little deceptive--I was once just "allan" until the server seemed to permanently lose my password....)

Hmmm... that's strange. I'm sure you already worked the issue, but isn't there a PW reminder or something (I can't remember). I'd assume TF has access to the master list, or can input a change.

Anyway, glad to see you're still here!

Rumor has it that someone else here at CFC might have read an entire post, and I'm not sure who!

BTW, Some are good late night reading, if numbers and calculations can help people get to sleep; I probably helped Matrix doze off more than once :D...

It will go on sell in June

Maybe in .PDF format? ;) And how much will you suggest people be paid to read it, hehe....

I read the sig in your post and followed the link.... guess who what the person that posted right after your first post??

Up until 1 week or so ago, the postcount was hidden and had been for a couple of mths. Long enough to forget how long it was. And then, TF got bored. :) The rest is history.....

You may want to look thru the PC thread in Site Feedback to get an idea. ;)

Just a reminder, you can DL all your PMs onto your hard drive; so no need to delete them all. ;) It's a new feature.

1.) I see Slowwhand's nefarious handiwork mostly around 'Poly these days, but also here on occasion. Haven't seen boann about...

2.) As for Lufthansa Terminal, they are not a 'real' band, but rather were made up of the cast of the early 80s British comedy show "Not the Nine O'Clock News" (Rowan Atkinson, Mel Smith, Pamela Stephenson and Griff Rhys-Jones).
The sketch featuring Lufthansa Terminal - Nice Video, Shame About the Song was a very funny parody of pretentious, weird new wave/new romantic music of the time, and their bizarre video clips. :D
I knew about Ramstein as well; so much research, not enough anything else:sleep: :D

I'm just glad your back! :) I missed the help in the Civ 2 threads. I joined like a few weeks before you left so you wouldn;t remember me. Good luck getting into civ 3 :)

Now that's a coincidence!

Wow! You were my first reply! I;ve always felt a special CivBond between our two posting personages

j/k :p

That is quite the coincidence......

Thanks for the info, Knight -Dragon, esp. about the PMs. I'll try doing that tomorrow (I have a slow connection). I'll have to check out the thread... some things seem kindof like being in a "time machine", since my memories were of the debate to have the postcounts removed. I'm sure there was some sort of reason (or maybe not) to put them back. It was always my point that one could look at the poster's bio and see their postcount if someone really wanted; placing it in every post might give some the perception that "bigger is better". Postcount wise, that is.

And thanks for your info, Simon. I did notice that the tribe section of Civ 2 is shut down, and I remember SlowwHand was active in that, so I infer from your post something must have happened. Oh well, I did like his lyrics posts.

I'm not just saying this, but I do remember your handle. I cannot recall a particulars, but I did see it. If people post in Civ 2 or even play the GOTMs, I generally recall when I see the name again.

I'll have a gap in the Nov-March time frame because I have not had time to look at the forums from that period yet and probably won't post from stuff back that far. But it's interesting to see for catching up :).

I was impressed to see a lot of people actively posting really good and timely advice in this Civ-3 era, like Kev, Duke o' York, Duke of Marlb., Andu, Lucky, etc. Lots of Warlike Democrats, ya-hoo! I was half expecting to see the Civ 2 section had dried up since the release of Civ 3, but it actually expanded... now there is a whole new concept (new to me anyway) called Diplomacy, with lots of old timers as well as newer people!

Civ 3 for me is still being put off. I have it, have the patches, and read the tech forum, but will wait until this summer for more free time and a computer upgrade.

... CivBond...

That reminds me of a poster named Goodbye_Mr_Bond. He used to do well in some GOTMs last year, too.

GMB is still around, but only very occasionally. Understand that he's busy, with studies or something.

I think right after you left, TF decided to hide the PC. And then, just slightly before you returned, he decided to reveal it again (for awhile) 'cause he's 'bored'. Hmmm....

Wow. The joys of Starlifter reading. It's just like old times. :goodjob:

Knight-Dragon: GMB is still around? Since when?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I have just posted the longest post in CFC history over in the staff forum!! Eat that starlifter :)

Try and tie me, mine is 15000 characters!
