starvation abuse

Historically, Soviet Russia was the first country to purposefully starve its own citizens as a tool of coercion (which is one reason why the Bolsheviks won). The Mongols were more "humane," in that if u accepted Mongol rule, u were fine. Of course if u resisted, they razed ur entire village/city, killed all the men and raped all the women as an example to the rest.

What civ III should have is a "terror" factor such that if a city culture flips, and u recapture it and raze that city to the ground, then all the cities near that doomed city won't flip for a certain number of turns. That would be historically accurate. I mean, how else did the Mongols keep half the world's population under their rule?

Yes, I have always known it's a game.:) Have you ever heard of the term 'role playing'?;)

since when does anyone who plays civ have any kind of concept of reality anyway??

Well, I don't think starvation is such a crime. Why do we starve people? Because they are unhappy! If they were smiling, I would gladfully let them live but...they are suffering, I can't stand it, I simply need to do something about that...OK, I'll turn them into happy artist that also make other people happy. Yeah, they'll die, but they'll leave this world glad, instead of suffering an unhappy life. So, as you see I don't starve people in my own interest...I just make them a favor :lol: :lol:

Don't take this post seriously, of course:cool:

They are artists and by definition, they all starve :p

mmmmmm If you are talking about Britney Spears and those morons of "Operacion Triunfo" (Sometimes being spanish makes me sick :mad: ) they can not be mentioned as "artists"... true artist usually starve, it's a sad truth

But back to the main issue...

I thing that starvation IS a good method when conquering new lands, because it controls citizens moods and so it makes more difficult culture flipping ...
I know that it is a bit difficult to imagine that on the real life,butthe game GUIDE US TO DO IT.
IT ALMOST FORCE US!!! :aargh3::aargh3::aargh3:

So, we must think: it's just a game!... and do it!

I ALWAYS starve any new cities I have just conquered if I am fighting a war where i cannot completely wipe out my opponent. So instead of resistors i turn them into tax collectors and get extra money! This also means that when the war is over there is much less chance of losing the city to culture. Sometimes i send in a few of my own grown workers and make them join the starving city whist any newly captured enemy ones move to my homeland to fill their places.

I usually turn unhappy people into specialists; therefore, the city would produce less food. That's what I really mean.

Well, you know, you'd probably stop starving unhappy people if you didn't do that. It's simple, really. I guess the temptation is a whole 'nother matter though.
