Stasis

Ugh. The illian World spell is horrible. It freezes everyone's economy entirely. No research, no culture, no income, no production, no great people.

For 30 whole turns @_@

Does anyone else think this is a bit much ?

i was thinking somekind of imparement to farming for all non illians for the duration, from cold, but that would leave you struggling to overcome a temporary situation, make a bunch of farms that in so many turns you won't want anymore, strikes me as really lame and kinda aggrevating.

Cabin fever(tongue in cheek), so many turns of partial culture and GPP, coupled with extra unhappiness in all non illian cities. then its not something you overcome, just deal with. less lame. course it would hit some worse than others(grigori for example)

god of winter right, maybe a permenant, immobile, ice elemental for each city, a protector? early enough you'd have only the palace ice, so it would be a 2+3 ice defensive only unit. a little strong for early, and doesn't scale up well though, but then you've got the bannor and their demagogs, its not like all the world spells are meant to be useable at any time or provide the same amount of effect.

just some suggestions. Thank you for time.

Maybe something... it is pretty annoying in multiplayer. Got a triple match going, first time with one of my friends. He played Illians, and cast stasis around like turn 40 on marathon. Just to see what it did. We cussed him I don't know how many times. *grins*

That many turns unable to really do anything just gets so boring. most of those turns, for me, simply amount to end turn, cause there is nothing you can do or should do if you don't have to.
These are my thoughts on it too. I can see some strategic use for it in multi-player and in the hands of a human, but in most single-player games vs. the AI, I find it amounts to nothing more than clicking end turn 20 times and making the odd improvement with workers (which I would've been doing anyway). I've never seen it timed right to pose me a real problem with barbs or a war, and likewise, I've never had the fortune of it showing up at just the right time to make waging a war easier for me.

I'm sure if I ever gave the Illians a go I'd love the World Spell. It does seem like something perfect for when you're about to mount a surprise invasion, or as zup suggested, really crippling the enemy during Armageddon (although you yourself would need to be well prepared for it too).

I would suggest that a better implementation would be for Statis to simply halt the working of the opponents' tiles. Let other gains (capital, buildings, religions, etc.) continue.

And lose 20 population in every city? :P
And you would still not gain much research or build much since you won't get much production or commerce.
