    War Update:
    In the north, we move forward with our stack to capture KwaDukuzu! We concentrate the bulk of our northern army inside the city, while taking advantage of the collapsed Spanish borders to scout ahead in anticipation of our next moves.

    In the south, we move our huge stack of knights past our captured city of Bulawayo to fork two more cities to our east.

    Increasing tensions with CivFr leads us to DOW them before their Merchant can complete it's Trade Mission. They were attempting to "claim" the vast majority of Spanish lands despite having no army, so we called their bluff. We surrounded their Merchant (with mostly non-combat units) so it can not complete it's mission, and we killed their scouting archer.

    Investigation of CivFr diplo reveals the following:
    • They have OB with UCiv and are trading them Incense for Pigs
    • They have OB with CP and are trading them Rice for Clams and Furs
    • They have OB with the Germans and are gifting them Ivory
    • They have OB with Poly and are trading them Sugar for Wheat
    • They have no deals with RB
    • They have not met WPC

    While we're on this screen, we can also see that RB is trading the Spaniards Ivory for Dye, and they continue to receive Marble from the Germans.

    War Update:
    How to conduct war like a Ninja
    In the north, we move two FW's into the forest just outside of Zulu culture and instantly road the tile. Then, we move three workers into the adjacent forest inside of Zulu culture and instantly chop it down. Now, we can move our stack of 5 Knights and 2 Chariots deep into Zulu territory onto the Copper hill. This is within striking distance of their capital Ulundi (2North1West). This also threatens an empty Zulu city 2North of the stack. Meanwhile, our big stack of 1-movers moves into Zulu territory towards Umgungundlova, reinforced with two Knights.

    In the south, we move a FW into Zulu territory onto their Sheep(!) tile to scout their city of Nongoma. We see it is defended by a single Axeman, so we send in a Knight to kill the Axe and capture the city. A loud "baa" of relief is heard across the lands as we free the Sheep from terrible Zulu bondage. 97 gold is pillaged from the Nongoma vault, and the Granary survived the attack. Having captured the city, we spot an Impi and Chariot lurking in the southern forest. 2 FW's are sent in to instantly road the tile outside of the forest, and a Xbow follows to take out the Impi. An Axeman stumbles on his way to take out the Chariot and unfortunately loses a high (75+%) percentage fight, so the Chariot is cleaned up with a Knight. We use another Knight to capture a stranded Zulu worker north of Nongoma. We move a FW to unfog the southern-most Zulu city of Ondoni, finding it empty. We move a Knight in to auto-raze the city, pillaging 5 gold. Also, an Axe is sent in to capture another stranded Zulu worker in the south.


    CivFr used their half of the turn timer to kill our scouting chariot near their territory, so we lost vision on their borders. However, the capture of Nongoma and Ondini reveal an unsettled desert Isthmus between the Zulu and Maya nations, getting us thinking about the potential for a sneak blitz attack on the CivFr core.

    Realms Beyond DOW the Germans and raze Fort Alamo.

    War Update:
    The Spaniards finally complete Animal Husbandry, opening up War Elephant units thanks to RB’s Ivory gift. They 3-pop whipped Umgung, probably a WE from scratch. They retreat all their units into their capital Ulundi, leaving only 2 Impis in Umgung to protect against our two knights. After some debate, we decide to risk attacking with the 2 Knights and get 2 wins vs the Impis, capturing the city! This allows us to move our main stack of 1-movers two tiles further into Zulu territory. They will be able to strike Ulundi on T153.

    In the south, having eliminated all Zulu troops last turn, we start consolidating most of our Knights back over to Umgung. We place one Knight on a hill overlooking the desert Isthmus to keep an eye out for Mayan troops.

    We begin pillaging towns in former German lands with our scouting chariot, partially for the pillage gold, mostly for the denial factor once RB gets control of the land.

    War Update:
    This turn is spent setting up our biggest blow and is the first war-turn that we don’t take any Zulu cities.

    Next to Ulundi we have 2 Knights, 7 Macemen, 3 Xbows, 1 Longbowman, 5 Axemen, 4 Cats and 2 FWs. We have a back-up stack of 3 more Knights and 3 more Cats 2 tiles away from Ulundi. Defending in Ulundi, the Spaniards have 11 Cats, 4 Axemen, 3 Impi, 1 Chariot, 1 Warrior and 1 Worker.

    Within striking distance of Nobamba, we have 5 Knights and 1 scouting Chariot (on a hill next to the city). Defending in Nobamba, the Spaniards have 1 lonely Warrior. There is also a Zulu Catapult within distance to garrison the city, but too far away to hit our Knight stack.

    Next to the empty size-1 city of Nodwengu, we have an Axeman and a couple other units. This city will be auto-razed next turn.

    After this turn the only remaining Spanish city will be the captured Barb city of Chinook. This is near the northern CivFr border. We may not be able to reach this city before CivFr, but considering they haven’t yet DOW’ed the Spaniards, we could yet take every Spanish city! If we are able to take it, we will need to figure out whether we want to raze this city or try to hold it against CivFr.

    We continue pillaging towns in former German lands with our scouting chariot, partially for the pillage gold, mostly for the denial factor once RB gets control of the land. RB took 2 German cities last turn, but did not take anything this turn.

    War Update:
    Spaniards attack! They send out everything they have at our main stack, weakening us first with their catapults, then sending all their obsolete units against our weakened stack. All in all, they lost 8 of 11 catapults, and a War Elephant. We lost 4 Axemen, 1 Spear, 1 Catapult and 1 Maceman. With this fighting, the Spaniards birth a Great General in Ulundi and attach it to their stack to sprinkle promotions across their surviving units.

    Unfortunately this weakened us enough that we are not able to take their capital of Ulundi this turn. We move our Knights in the south into position to join the attack next turn. The city will fall next turn.

    Meanwhile, the Spaniards empty their eastern city of Chinook, leaving it to the Frenchies who DOW them this turn and take the empty city. They move those units into Nobambo, combined with a War Elephant that was whipped, making it risky to attack the city. Our brave generals calculate the risk, decide it is worth it, and move forward to victory! We capture the city at size 6. A Granary, Colleseum and Market survive the attack.

    Upon taking the city, we uncover a lone French Knight scouting ahead. We are able to easily kill this unit, but decide to spare it's life as a token of our peaceful intentions towards CivFr.

    War Update:
    In the first half of the turn, the Spaniards lose an Axeman against our Knight, and take an uncovered Fast Worker. CivFr sends a Knight against our single wounded Knight covering Nobamba. They win and raze the city. Two more units were lost to Mayan attacks.

    Our turn starts at the gates of the final Spanish city, Ulundi. We sent in 5 Knights, a Xbow and 2 Macemen to take the city without a single unit lost. The last city falls to us and the Spaniards are eliminated from the game. Sheep across the lands Bahh in grateful unison. A Market survives in Ulundi, a size 4 city with 5 turns of revolt.

    Turning further east, we send our Knights against the Mayan army. By some evil Zulu trick, we lose two favorable battles, not even dealing a single hit of damage in the second attack. We have to pause the attack and cover our wounded survivors.

    Late in the turn, we get a message from CivFr stating that it is war they want, so it is war we will give them. :hammer:

    War Update:
    The Frenchies pull their troops back to Chinook. We send most of our troops to Ulundi to heal. We have a few well-positioned troops overlooking the ruins of Nobambo, with no Mayan units in sight.

    WPC has finally joined RB's war against the Germans. German cities continue to quickly fall.

    Our troops are mostly healed. CP is engaging in some shuttle diplomacy to see if we can get any closer to peace with CivFr. CP is sending us screenshots of CivFr land, revealing the early stages of a CivFr attack across the desert peninsula.

    The screenshot of the Mayan lands shows how heavily they are relying on cottages throughout their land, explaining why they have hardly whipped at all during our war, instead spending money upgrading older units.

    Thanks to our show of force, CivFr backed off a settler they had going to the area of the razed Zulu city of Nobambo. They also move some of their southern knights towards the northern front, opening up a chance to move in with our own Knights and FW's to destroy a bunch of French cats next turn. We move the troops into position to do this.

    We also move our own settler to the northern front to re-settle our city the French razed.
