Statue of Zeus vs. Knights Templar

I actually do like Crusader, but in times of peace, they just stack up like crazy.

What I did find out was that crusaders gave 17 shields hen you disband them. That usually takes a turn off of something like the cathedrals.

Well, 2 crusaders can build any improvement instantly in thoe new cities that are always at risk of being attacked or conversion.

I believe he meant disbanding them for instant shields. Two crusaders can turn into 34 shields.

That's kinda what I thought. His statement seems a little overly-optimistic though ("any improvement instantly"). Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed out on the best kept secret out there.

One thing you forgot to mention is that Crusaders have the ability to build Fortresses.
This can come in very handy when you need to hold certain areas while waiting for reinforcements. It also keeps your workers safe from attack on the front lines.
I keep them around for quite some time, they work really well for fortifying a stack of troops, especially wounded ones in no-mans-land!

Ack, you're right. I forgot about that. Thanks. :)

Statue of Zeus. Definetily.

200 shields + 5 (veteran) hp 3.2.2. monsters every 5 turns is awesome.

This is the first time I heard someone say knights aren't worth it. IMO knights are expensive but they're worth it. Cav's are still almost a full era away. By that time you could have 30 knights. And if you've got enough gold, you could upgrade them to cav's. Just like I upgraded 20 trebuchet's to cannons because cannon's cause craters :D. So all you need is some gold and fast producing cities.

It's not so much that knights aren't worth it as that unless you have a knight-replacement UU (especially riders or ansars), researching chivlary, and thus delaying MT, might not be worth it. Trade for it instead, unless you need knights and it isn't available.

Usually, at this point in the game - I need speed.

SOZ gives speed and effectiveness.

If I get KOT, they usually stand around guarding cities because I can't get them somewhere where I need them fast enough.

Cav's are still far away and I find it's worth it to research chivalry. Sure it's not the most useful tech but IMO it's worth it. I need fast troops like knights for my conquest missions :D.

Knights are very useful defensive troops to cut down invading longbowmen and MI.

SOZ is great but I hardly ever get Ivory so KT is it. Crusaders are great in a SOD with artillery and by the Industrial they are expendable shock troops.

I usually keep them as souvenirs from the Middle Ages. :smug:

Magpie! :crazyeye: :p

SoZ. If I can get the ivory early enough, the AC is a great deterrent to AI encroachment on my turf. As for KT, doesn't it have something to do with Xichlub (sp?)? Doesn't figure in my games anyway.

My big problem with the Crusaders is the stack. Maye a stack of twenty, i don't know, they just keep coming. That's where I learned disbanding them helps. A lot. I love ripping off turns it take to build something in a new city, plus watching the Crusaders get ripped apart y some unknown force. It's cruel, but nonetheless hilarious.

If you disband crusaders than you have no need for troops witch means you shouldn't build KT in the first place.

Personally, I don't think SoZ is worth giving up 5 settlers and 5 workers. Think of what those 5 settlers can produce in 40 turns if you choose to skip this wonder. Is that loss really worth 8 mediocre fast units??

Your forgetting the fact that the city that built the SOZ is not only getting the free unit but also building its own unit/improvement at the same time.
Double your pleasure, double your fun!!
