Steam Q&A and FAQ

Thats the problem I dont know where the steam folder is. Do you know where the default path would be?

As I said in the post you quoted, the Steam folder is in your Program Files folder. The exact path for that for me on Windows 7 64bit is:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
and it will be the same for you (maybe without the (x86) if you don't have 64bit).

I found something that should help people having problems with Offline mode or don't want to go online at all. I do not know how well this works to stop the update process.

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Steam#Always_Force_Offline_Mode

Always Force Offline Mode

Forcing Offline Mode will make Steam to always open in Offline Mode, even with a working internet connection. A prompt will appear and the options Retry and Offline Mode will show up. Retry will simply restart Steam and cause the same menu options to come up, whereas Offline Mode will take one into the Steam game library.

This step still requires the authentication to be carried out.

Create or edit the
Code:
steam.cfg
in this folder (the same folder as the steam.exe):

Code:
C:\Program Files\Steam\

Enter the following and save:

Code:
BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable

Code:
ForceOfflineMode=enable
I found the steam folder, but did not see a steam.cfg file. How do I create it?

Strange that my previous post (368) seems to have been missed. Here are the steps that'll do it:

1. Open up a new notepad document
2. Copy and paste the following lines into the document:

BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable
ForceOfflineMode=enable

3. Go to File > Save As...
- Under the "Save as type:" dropdown, select "All Files"
- Under "File Name" name the document "steam.cfg" (WITHOUT QUOTATIONS)

Something downloaded on my CiV game on steam. The download began at 2:09 AM CST. The file was 4,252.5 MB. What the hell was it? There were no details whatsoever. It did give me the option to pause update, during the DL. So, I know it was an update, but how do I find the details? :confused:

I'm a volunteer mod at the official steam forum and a huge Civ fan. (sounds a bit confessional) And... apparently, a glutton for punishment, or so we'll find out in this thread. ;)

Good Morning Shane,

I have a problem that maybe you have seen before. I had to install a new mainboard in my PC, hat required reformatting and installing windows. When I did, my one Steam game I had installed (CIV 5) went with it. I reinstalled Steam, but Civ 5 does not show up in my library to redownload.

I tried contacting Steam tech support, got a help ticket, and never heard back from them. I tried contacting the Steam Support for Account Issues. Never heard back from them.

I just want to play my game and not have to buy it again.

So here is my question.... How do I get my game back????? Any ideas?

Thanks

Rick

Lrd Dread,

In the Library tab of Steam, if beside the search box there is something (a filter) that says "Installed" then click it and select "All games" instead.

(Hi, I've searched but didn't find this question already answered....)

Earlier I purchased Civ V (vanilla) and some DLC. Today, I purchased Civ V Game of the Year edition and G&K as a bundle.

Any advice regarding how may I gift my current vanilla Civ V license to a family member, then install my new game?
