Steam won't run the game

I'm running Steam on my Mac through Crossover. It downloaded fine and says it's ready to play, but when I click Play, it tells me it's "Preparing to Launch" and then doesn't do anything. There's no error message. When I check on Steam it says "last played today" but the game never opened.

I've tried online, offline, DirectX 9, everything. Any ideas what's going on?

We have at the moment no idea if Civ5 is at all compatible with crossover, we have to wait for a working report.

Well, I'm trying to launch the game on a completely PC system and it isn't working either. I could wait all day and the game won't launch. I am running Windows 7 (64), Core i5, 4 gigs Ram and 512MB dedicated video ram. Why won't the game start?

This is happening to me, also, on a PC.

My system is well above and beyond what the game requirements claims it needs.

When I click "Play" out of Steam, it brings me to a Civ5 screen that asks if I want to run DirX9 or 10/11 (even though I choose 10/11 out of Steam) and so I click one (tried both 100+ times each) and then nothing happens.

I ran as admin, offline, online...

Honestly, I'm at my wit's end. At this point I just want my money back, but I'm willing to bet Steam will tell me "tough luck, kid. We sold you a game that don't work at no fault of your own."
