Stephen Colbert Makes Joke, Twitter Outrage Ensues

For those who still don't get it, Colbert was poking fun at bigotry by pretending to be a bigot.

The fact that people need to be told this is sad. He's a freaking character.

^When you are of the view that something very very simple was missed by many people, chances are you missed what they were arguing about :scan:

(eg, Colbert would still be a character/act/whatever, but i am sure he would not try to make a similar/analogous satire about black people instead of asians, cause 'Merica).

He's already done many many off color jokes on his show. I'm sure it be possible to hunt down some examples on the website but I'm too lazy right now, plus I think only people in the US/Canada can see them. It's not exactly new territory for Colbert.

Edit: I'm 100% sure he's at least had to make a number of half-black jokes about Obama, I'm pretty sure he's done a couple about how African Americans have slightly higher abortion rates too.

Besides my comment was about the OP, not your silly nonsensical rant about "'Merica".

Seriously?

You don't think Colbert has tackled African-American racial issues on his show?

Or would you just like a list with a generic <insert name here> and <insert ethnic slur here> boxes filled out to offend everyone "equally"?

Cool, since you think he has, you could post some video where he did, for educational reasons and all ;)

(not saying it is his fault; it appears that some 'races' in America are being played/taken advantage of by politicians far more actively than other ones. Black people are not in need of protectors, and if they were they certainly would not need those fakes in politics).

I'd prefer you answer the question posed first so we know what we are looking for. You know, to avoid wasting time.

^Uh...what? I think it is obvious i agreed that you can post vids of Colbert making analogous jokes as the one about Asians, now about Black people.
Not sure what point of confusion there is, i merely accepted your offer to post your vids and show your point..

(for my own view, look at post #31 etc; no racial group needs those fake politicians as 'protectors').

Define analogous. Can I have a formula used to evaluate these videos so I can calculate how offensive the joke is up front?

You know, because I don't want to waste my time.

^Yes, i think we can agree on this one:

I'd rather not.

What I am getting at is the issue of context and the type of racially-charged satire. Stephen Colbert has done numerous segments especially on racial disparities in crime, legal proceedings, drug use, economic opportunity, federal anti-poverty programs, etc. All the segments are satirical or otherwise comedic given the nature of his show. But I don't want to waste time drudging up clips just to have some clown say "Nope! Not analogous! Not equivalent!"

Maybe the activist leading this campaign is especially sensitive because her name is Suey Park.

Bear in mind if Rush had said this, no one would have blinked, much less the people calling for the end of the Colbert Report.
