stEspIINES - Realised Dreams

Gelion: stuff took place, but it was only nomadic tribes wandering about the place for survival, now they have first settled and begun building a village so stuff has happened.

Also, I am gonna give names to years i.e. Year 0 is The Year of the Second Sun. Just for a bit of flavour, but as last time, you can make your own calendars.

nice story amen, you just want to make it so i cant deprive you of horses and iron :) remmeber, bronze age longer than last time maybe instead of trying to rus straight to steel?

Avernum
"The Glory and majesty of Avernum are unmatched throughout all the lands of the earth, standing in the glowing shadow of supreme Sol Invictus, the invicible sun,and patron god of our city, and state, we shall overcome adversity, and make for ourselves a lasting place in the world" -Baziron I, the first "great king" of Avernum

The site of Avernum was a pleasnt one, a high tall acropolis, affording wonderful protection for the residents of it, colse to a river, and surreounded by 9 mighty hills, affording a wonder veiw over the rolling hills and patchy foests and green pastuires over the land- in all senses, it was ap paradise- and that exactley why the Avernites choose to settle thier.

Avernum was first settled by Aceron, a hero and inventor, a man supposed to have shown people that the animals known as cattle could be tamed, and brough tunder yoke, and bred to be more mindful of human masters, a brave warrior, he led meany raids and war agiasnt othe rpeoples of the area, eventually consolodateing many of the different avernite tribes into one consolodated cheifedom of unequaled size throughout the world- and it was such that lead Aceron to found a new, grand capital, and the holy site of the "Palintia", the rocky acropolis, seeimglly ariseing from nowhere along the Avernos river.

the settlement was an easy one- in the center of the territory controlled by Aceron and, with mos tof the avernite peoples int he general area subdued, thier was no stop of building materials handed over as tribute, nor settlers coming intot he site to be a citizen fo the grant new captial, and supreme and permanent settlement of the rulers of the new Avernite nation, and was to be a glorious symbol to all of the peoples might.

the entire country side, indeed, was exeperincing a boom,as other avernites soon followed the path set by Aceron, and cosolodated thier own localities into towns and other sized settlements, and began, in the tradition of Aceron, to look about the lands, and see what they could make of it- it wa snot long before soem adventoerus spirits learned a wonderful new art- the art of copper smithing, and it was that innovation that made much of what followed possible.

The city expanded fast, and it was onyl a few months before a palace, and great temple, dedicated to the main god fo the Avernites, Sol Invictus, was built of a mighty, and beautiful stone, called "marble"-qurried, in no small part, thanks to the innovation of copper- the city as a whole too expanded fast, and under the guidence of Aceron, buetified, soon having stone streets, and gutters, to drain away waste. walls were soon erected around the hills, and wooden watch towers upon them soon gave way to towers of firm stone. the landscape soon dotted with small farms, and larger settlements, smaller towns, all around the landscape, prviding the now adged Aceron with a mighty, and prosperous kingdom.

upon his deathbed, he named his oldest grandchild, a man of similer spirit and resolution to himself, a young man in the prime of his life, and already a brave warrior, innovative thinker, and a pious and good hearted man- the perfect choice to lead Avernum into a new age- Avernum had been born of Aceron, and it now entered the world, a new world, and unexplored world, with a new drive, a new will, and a new leader- Baziron I, the first true "king" of Avernum

Thanks for adding in the jungles.

Why I didn't want in initially, I haven't the slightest clue. But I feel stupid now that I see the topic. Or maybe, Espirito, you're just some kind of evil computer virus trying to take over my brain.

...oh well, at least I'll have fun as you conquer my mind. And I'm going to play a wholly different game from the last one! No more peacemonger trading empire. :p Not that it means I'm going to go out and try to kill everyone. But I'm not going to hesitate to invade tiny tribes this time, either.

Tribe: Leskean Alliance
Ruler (Player): Lordchief Eris Kayuka
Government: Leskean Tribal Alliance*
Religion: Pulism
Economy: Stable
Armed Forces: 50 warriors (stone weapons)
Starting Location: [See Map attached to this post, starting location is the pink dot]
Background: The exact origins of the Leskean Alliance is unclear, but it is said that five chieftains of tribes on the Island of Lesk banded themselves together to survive after an invasion from off-island by the "teryk" -- the "strange people" -- and founded a small village to serve as their new home. For centuries, the Leskeans have lived simply as they did before the Alliance, just on a far larger scale. But then Eris Kayuka came to power in the Tribal Council and became Lordchief, the highest rank in the Alliance. He spoke great words to the people, who quickly left behind their simple lifestyle and began to turn their small village -- Terykghua, or "Fortress Defending from the Strange People" -- into a true city...

*Leskean Tribal Alliance: An alliance in name only, the tribes originally involved in it have become so mixed around that one can't truly tell the difference between them. The government structure is relatively simple, yet effective, with ten Chiefs in the Alliance Council who ran minor affairs and law-making and one Lordchief who ran most of the major affairs, the military, and the economic affairs. The Lordchief, to keep from becoming too powerful, was elected -- and subsequently could be booted out or have his actions vetoed [the former by at least a 8/10 vote and the latter by at least a 6/10 vote] -- by the Council of Chiefs.

And now for the religion of Leskea...

Name: Pulism
Head: Council of High Priests and Priestesses
Attitude to War: No opinion.
Belief about God(s): No Gods, only Spirits. The spirits are divided into two orders -- the Light Spirits and the Dark Spirits. Light Spirits are honorable and value love, but are not technically "good", and inhabit the sun, the sky, and animals that are awake during the day. Dark Spirits are mischievious and playful, but not technically "evil", and inhabit the moon and stars, as well as noctural animals. Humans are the exception to this order, and can be inhabited by either a Light or Dark Spirit [determined by personality, not whether they sleep at night].
Belief about Afterlife: In the afterlife, the spirits -- Dark and Light, good and evil -- judge the one who has just died. If the person is found to have been good in his or her life, then he or she is allowed to become a Spirit that inhabits an object. If the person has been deemed EXCEPTIONALLY good, then he or she will be given the rare opportunity of rebirth in a new body. If the person has been deemed evil, then he or she will become a Spirit that wanders by itself -- a "ghost". If the person has been deemed EXCEPTIONALLY evil, then he or she shall be sealed within a black crystal and cast into the depths of the sea for eternity.
Heretics: Theistic religions are looked down upon but not hated and are the closest things to "heretics" in Pulism.
Control over people: Normal
Religious Center: The Cavern Temple of Pul, north of Terykghua
Culture: None

The Priests and Priestesses who live and work [IE, contacting the spirits] within the Cavern Temple of Pul are said to be descendants of the first and second Humans, whose full names are lost and are known only as "Pul" and "Lesk". [pronounced "pool" and "less-kuh"] The rest of the human race were birthed from animals in the wild, thanks to intervention from a few playful Dark Spirits -- it was originally intended by the Light Spirits for humanity to be born from the land itself, rather than animals.

EDIT: Forgot to mention something important to the government. ^^;;

EDIT2: *KICKS self* I also forgot something involving the religion...

The great cold waves of the Kifini Sea crashed with a thunder into the rocks of the local coastline, slowly adding to the rugged beauty of the area even as Desini watched the spectacle. Not too far from here was one example of their wondrous sculpture, a massive naturally carved stone arch that spanned more than a hundred ji in length, an awesome reminder of the power of the interaction between the harmony of Khenmi and Ggourij (when they decided to work together, of course).

He loved this particular perch of his, not too far from the Sea to be sprayed by the water, but far enough that he would not plunge into its depths with the lonesome crash of a single wave. Besides which, the view was beautiful. He sighed and leaned back against the comfortable recess the wall made. So much had happened in the past few days...

His father had come back from his mission to the great Kuzani, and had been practically bouncing with excitement. He had been able to listen in on these discussions and gather much of what was going on, naturally, since he was well aware of the nature of politics and warfare. Kuzani had apparently agreed to the compromise offered by the coalition of the chiefs, who had advised him that a Federalist government was likely the best that they could do. Kuzani would retain his crown, of course, but the local areas would also have a say in their own affairs, and the upper assemblies, which would be elected by the people, would have a right to block decisions of the Kuzani!

It was a great victory for the Coalition, naturally, since they had been advocating a federalist government to make sure the local nations did not have a major problem with the laws. Of course, they would stay bound by higher law, but they did have a large amount of leeway. Privately, he was happy for this; it allowed him and his family to gain a higher seat in the Fulani if they managed to garner enough support.

He smiled. With this dispute solved, the tribes of Tourijan could stop fighting among themselves, and finally turn their look outwards, towards the rest of the world. They needed to recognize that they themselves were their worst enemy, if they united, then they could effectively combat the rest of the region, and unite them. This would be, of course, for the people’s own good, since the great Kuzani would obviously let them retain greater freedoms than their own hierarchical societies would allow.

His peripheral vision caught some movement, and when he looked over he gasped in amazement and delight. Perched on the rock next to him was one of the beautiful, red iridescent kiriji that was not only an omen of good luck, but a symbol of the religion and a beautiful creature to look at. Its glistening red head turned and regarded him with deep blue eyes, and after seemingly nodding to him, it launched off, to fly into the mist offshore.

It would be a good time indeed.

Tribe: Tourijan
Ruler (Player): Kuzani Sojini
Government: Federalist Monarchy
Religion: Tallijani
Economy: Stable
Armed Forces: 50 warriors (stone weapons)
Starting Location: City of Tourijan (see map)
Background: Tourijan was founded by a varied collection of tribes who had grown massively due to the rapid domestication of a rather common cereal in the area. With populations spiking, the people began to trade with each other, conquer each other, until the Sojini tribe became the most powerful in the region. The first king settled the disputes by allowing each of the local tribes to make laws in their lands by the way they wanted them; they only had to stay within the bounds that the Kuzani laid out for them to follow. With this distinct division between the federal and local governments, it ensured that the empire would stay unified and that it could also react to local concerns. With this formal fabric in place to consolidate the Empire, it now could rapidly expand.

Note: Kuzani is approximately related to King, Sojini is the dynastic name.

Note2: A “Federalist Monarchy” has the monarch at the head making decisions on a national level, while at the local level fully Democratic assemblies (“Fulani”) make decisions for that area only. The decisions on a local level are of course overruled if they disagree with the Kuzani’s rulings, but normally they do not conflict as the local assemblies are given leeway in deciding how to enforce a particular law (for example, the Kuzani would declare a certain act a crime, the Fulani would decide how to implement it). In addition to this, the Fulani elect representatives from their midst to visit the capital and approve of the decisions of the Kuzani, or make their own motions. No law may pass without the Kuzani agreeing, nor may any pass without the Jifulani (the elected body) agreeing. They must work in concert, though often this is not a problem, because the Kuzani often command quite a bit of support from the local populace, thus also from the Fulani and the Jifulani. Often they are never deadlocked, in fact, for if the Jifulani returns a commanding majority against the Kuzani’s position, he will often consent to their decision (though this is tradition, not law).

The religion of Tourijan, Tallijani, is a much less self serving religion than any other in the world, and it reflects the world view of the Tourijani people, that no one thing can gain solely at ever other’s expense, that all are interrelated, and that none can survive without harmony and the interaction that other’s provide. This multilayered, complex interacting culture is quite evident in their religion.

The main pantheon is composed of three gods, Varij, who makes up the light and the giver thereof, essentially, Khenmi, who is the wielder of the ocean of water that floods the earth, and who is the giver of life, and Ggourji*, he who cradles the earth, and all that is yielded by it for the use of man.

These three interacting make up the world, in and of themselves, however, they are but minor parts of a greater whole, the whole being the entirety of the body of spirits that wander this universe. Almost everything has a spirit in the religion (so it is somewhat related to Animism), and it is when these spirits interact in the realm created by the larger spirits that reality is born.

The after life is simple, a soul attempts time and time again for perfection, when mind and soul are perfect, they go on to Kiarnu, or the great heaven. The way to attain perfection is greatly debated, but the specifics that most everyone agrees on is that it cannot be bought; praying to a god over and over makes you no more likely to achieve perfection than does saying “I am perfect” a few million times.

A soul can only attain perfection when their motives in life are pure, and when they care not for how much they have, but if they lead a good life. Those who care and strive to be better are the ones destined for salvation. The great majority of people try to maximize what they can do in a life, for perfection is not attained through apathy.

Of course, attaining perfection is not all there is in life, and so the religion addresses these concerns as well. For example, it dictates that war is fine, as long as it is altruistic. Killing out of cold blood or profit is a terrible act.

Local sects of the religion are common, most of them are widely recognized by their symbols.

Varjiliti is a sect based on focusing the light and energy of the world so you become a “conduit” for the light. They often use fires in their rituals, and they focus on the fire using these. They are often described as calm, and determined in their focus on attaining the light. Fires are also considered an symbol for the rebirth of the soul.

Khenimi is another sect who focuses more on personality, they strive to be kind, gracious people who value life. Life is very important in this sect, and life must be preserved. Their symbol is often the kiriji, a large ocean bird, often described as the most beautiful bird in the world, a iridescent red in the summer, with a long, glittering tail, then in winter it changes color to the purest of whites. This beautiful bird, only one example of the local wildlife, is quite popular among the villagers.

Meanwhile, the primary religious city is inland, ringing the tallest mountain peak, Aluji, and it is a perfect local, as with a great mountain lake nearby, it is the union of light, water, and earth.

More on this through stories and such.

The Book of the Spirits said:
The Void.

First, there was nothing.

An infinite nothing, where no one lived. The universe was cold, and unborn, and even the spirit world did not exist.

It was this way forever, part of a master plan still not understood. Could a lazy spirit have crafted this universe so he would not have much work, or was it merely a complete, and total void, waiting to be turned into something more?

Our people do not know these things, but what we do know, from the stories passed down generation to generation, is that, from this void, came a light.

Complete darkness turned into light brighter than that of a million suns, and hotter than molten rock.

The light sent waves of heat throughout this void, burning everything from which it came in contact with, but from this destruction, the spirits were borne.

The spirits are nothing more than infinately small beings, filled with enough energy to power a star, and enough energy to destroy entire worlds. First these spirits were let rampant, colliding into each other and destroying what the light had created, and yet, in destroying themselves, had created more light. The universe was an inferno, constantly expanding and constantly creating spirits.

Then, came Javardi, the many armed goddess. She alone, brought order to the spirits, and turned them into the forces of creation.

Spirits were bound together, and turned into stars. Spirits collided and from the dust were formed planets.

Thus, the great plans of Javardi were set into motion.

She created us out of chaos and disorder, and she alone, has the power to either bring peace, or despair.

Praise Javardi, the eternal creator. May she always shine her bright light on us, the people of Sabah.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cult of Javardi, or the Java faith, as it came to be known, would empower a group of squabbling tribes to unite, and form one nation. Much like the squabbling spirits, who unite to become the stars.

One day, the Sabah shall be as great as the spirits, and land in the heavens, but until that day, we must all honor Javardi and those very spirits that make us human.

Praise Javardi, the eternal creator, May she always shine her bright light on us, the people of Sabah

more to come later.... stories on the culture of my people, etc..
OOC: Notice the similarities between Big Bang theory and that of the Javardi beliefs ;)

Tribe: Daruk
Ruler (Player): Desmon I (Jason the King)
Government: Theocracy
Religion: Darukan Polytheism
Economy: Stable
Armed Forces: 50 warriors (stone weapons)
Starting Location: Sedaria (the river valley)
Background: To be explained below.

Since time had begun, Sedaria, the land between the two rivers, the ultimate oasis of the unforgiving desert, has been full of blood. Divided and sharing very limited resources, Sedarians constantly fought wars for land. It was city state versus city state for the entire existence of the universe. All this would end when Desmon I became Emperor of Daruk, a subtle and rather small city state at the southern end of Sedaria. This is his story.

--------

“Desmon, you did not clean the cow once again! Come, do what your mother tells you.” The old, shriveled woman yelled from front steps of her adobe home. She was clad in rather fine cloth, resembling a person of high class, possibly a merchant’s wife or the wife of a successful warrior or hunter. On top of the dress, a long skirt made of hide doubled the protection of her lower body, stressing the size of her waist. She carried in her hand a slab of liver, from either a sow or a swine, both of which Desmon had never slaughtered. Waiving to his mother from nearly twenty yards away, Desmon acted as if he had not heard her instructions. Instead, he continued to flirt with Dian, a girl of his age that belonged to the same temple he did. He finally understood the seriousness of his mother when she came down the steps towards him, and said goodbye to the girl.

“I’m coming, mama.” He said quickly, so to avoid the wrath she would deliver upon him. The cow, only one of five his family owned, had been in need of a bath for seven suns now, and Desmon had somehow been able to avoid this chore. He noticed his mother had replaced the liver in her hands with a scrubber and a pale of water. Nodding his head as he took the tools from her, he quickly turned around so to not be lectured. Unfortunately, the lecture came anyways.

“You know how papa feels about dirty animals, Desmon. Hadishi would not grant us such a bountiful life if he had not loved us, but you are really trying his patience, and it is not smart to try the patience of a God, Desmon.” Waving his hand as he walked away, he continued to the cow. He had heard the same thing since he was born, nearly ten years ago. The sun began to set as he dipped the scrub into the warm water.

--------

“Desmon, how come you are always here?” he heard his father ask him. Returning to his feet, he was angered by the rude interruption of his father during mediation. Wiping the agitation from his face as he turned around to meet his father, he quickly acted happy to see the oaf who had ditched most of his childhood. Desmon always reminded himself the only reason his father was here was because his mother had died giving birth to his younger brother. It took the death of a woman and a baby boy to bring his father to him, and he would never forget it.

“Mama always taught me to pray, sir.” Desmon answered, but his father quickly waved it off. “Pray? Praying didn’t help your mother survive your brother. How should it help you in your life?” he asked, and then stormed out of the temple. On his way out, a priest grabbed him by his army. Alarmed, Desmon’s father yanked his arm free, and three guards jumped onto him. Dishonoring a priest was a crime punishable by death on the spot. Restraining the father, the guards watched the priest for a signal as to what to do. Raising two fingers, the priest sentenced the father to death. One of the guards withdrew his dagger, and with one quick slice, Desmon was parentless. Showing no emotion, Desmon returned to praying. He would never know why he didn’t care about his father’s death, and he never cared to know.

--------

“Your skills have been proven on the battlefield, Desmon.” The emperor spoke, looking at Desmon in the eyes. Desmon continued his downward stare, as was the only place to look when in the company of the emperor. “You will become my commander, my soul companion,” the emperor said, “and will have control over the whole of the army of Daruk, answerable only to me. Vizier, you may rise and look into my eyes.” Caught off guards, a confused Desmon rose, and was the second man to look into the eyes of an aged old and helpless man’s eyes. They seemed deep enough for Desmon to swim in, sinking far into the wrinkled mans skull. Giving a quick bow, Desmon exited the chamber of Hadishi.

On the streets of Daruk, Desmon was immediately recognized be the people. It seemed just overnight that he had become a huge celebrity, defeating an enemy army nearly thrice his size and living to tell about it. The people were ecstatic, and threw gifts of money, flowers and other luxuries towards him wherever he walked. He had become more important then the emperor, which was considered a god. Desmon had, in his performance, become a god on earth. His purple cape draped behind him as he descended the steps.

--------

“You are the emperor, Desmon. I bow to thee.” Gett said, as he bowed to the structured Desmon. The emperor had died without an heir, and the council had chosen Desmon to become the new dynasty. What they did not know was this new dynasty would last much longer then any previous one, and would be the beginning of a new age for Daruk.

Within years, the Daruk army had been expanded four fold, and rival cities were now firmly under Darukian control. Desmon I proclaimed his empire for Hadishi, and his soul for his emperor.

--------

The Structure of Daruk
-A Scribe’s Scroll, dated back to the first century.

There are many parts to the Darukian Theocracy that are integral to the way the government operates. The first and foremost important figure is the Emperor, who is regarded as God on Earth, as a reincarnated Hadishi. He rules from his palace in Daruk, and has absolute authority over every aspect of his Empire, except the High Priest.

The High Priest is the second most important figurehead of the theocracy. While having no political power, the priest is the head of the Temple Novia, the central temple and focal point of the Darukian religion. He controls the church, and in himself is bestowed all power of religion. The people regard him as the connection between them and Hadishi. He was the only man, besides the imperial son, who could look into the eyes of the emperor.

The Deka, or the council of priests, were the most learned and usually most aged priests of the realm. Chosen by both the high priest and the emperor, this council helped run the land and govern it affectively. One man can not manage thousands of people.

Just below the Deka is the Imperial Family, the families of both the High Priest and the Emperor, and all other major land-owning nobles. They formed the upper class, whom has the church wrapped around their thumb as they fund most of the temples.

Warriors are next in line, this people gain the highest esteem from commoners and are usually awarded large plantations by the Emperor. Thought they are usually poor, this land grant helps them live at a little above sustenance level.

Commoners are the second lowest class. They consist of merchants and unsuccessful warriors, as well as farmers and people of other crafts. This class makes up the majority of the people of Daruk, and is usually poor.

Slaves are the last class. They have no rights, and usually belong to wealthy successful warriors, or any of the upper classes. They usually are the soldiers of conquered lands. Conquered peoples are considered semi-commoners, possessing only some of their rights, but are taxes much higher.

---

God, what a crappy story. I just wasn’t in the mood or something. Hopefully better stuff will come out when there is more for me to write about. I promise better ones when I get in the mood or something.

Btw, for reference:

Daruk: The capital city and name of the empire.
Sedaria: The fertile land between the two rivers.
Hadishi: Most important god of the religion.

Daruk is right where the main river splits into the two.
