JJ, when you say defence, defence on the whole or can you intergrate passive spearmen manouvres into your offence, like a war of attrition?

well matty.
imagine a group of spearmen with their spears up!
Now imagine a group of horsmen (or chariots) running into them getting stuck into the spears... ouch, chariots won't do the work...
Now imgaine a group of clubman going around the spears (a chariot can't choose where to go in those speeds, a man can choose to go between 2 spears) now the clubs will win...

but surely if the spearmen group was in a square (like in napoleonic wars to stop chariots horses etc.) only archers could kill them effectivly, but they could put there up to protect them.
