StKNES5: A New Lease on NES

Kamilian- I had a seperate forsce of settlers and sodiers on the ships heading to found Jiddah, and seeing as their only purpose was to establish Jiddah, (a spot rather worthless to the Arab tribes seeing as they have no interest in trade and that's pretty much all Jiddah is worth for) and not expand outside of the city too much (mabey alittle land for the sake of agriculture and trade, but that's it!). In other words, my main force did not need to reach Jiddah, only my ships did (which according to your update they did). Oh, and while I am thinking about it, if I didn't already have it down in my orders, add this:
* Continue building road network, starting with major cities and then minor settlements.

Addition to Malaysia's orders:

-Colonize Burmese coast.
-Build cities on Java, Sumatra, Borneo.

Well then they made it but the Arabs pushed them back. There we go.
And Lord_Iggy and Israelite, could you both please edit your orders so that everything is TOGETHER in one post (or PM, whatever)? I do not want to have to look at two separate posts for ONE complete set of orders when I do update. It will only confuse me.

Update 12 - 1100 BCE

Though it managed to hold out for surprisingly a long time, finally, Dubrovnik succumbed. Its ultimate collapse was mainly due to the surprise Israelite force that attacked the city.
The shock of the fall of the capital reverbrated across the military forces of Dalmatia across the country, and it should be no surprise to anyone that Dalmatia – the first and only organized South Slavic country and government – has fallen to its enemy forces.
Though the area across the Danube was not invaded by neither Roman, nor Israelite, nor Byzantine forces, it has been taken already by the Magyars, who have, with the capitulation of Slovakia and Dacia to their demands, established the Kingdom of Magyarorszag, known to others diplomatically as the Kingdom of Hungary, to avoid spelling and mispronunciation woes.
The populace in occupied Dalmatia (outside of the Hungarian portion) is resisting actively, conspiring to prevent food supplies to the occupying troops, and causing troops’ deaths even after the fall of the Dalmatian Army.
The War of Dalmatian Partition, it seems, is over.
Neither Rome nor Byzantium will be able to profit from the resources of North (Roman-controlled) and South (Byzantine-controlled) Dalmatia until the resistance is crushed.
ROME: -300 troops
BYZANTIUM: -400 troops
ISRAEL: -100 troops

Despite instatement of the Law of Leo III, the Slavland Senate continues to defy the Emperor. The Senate’s representatives in the Imperial Senate have left the capital, and the Senate has proclaimed a province-wide call to arms on a mission to liberate the South Slavs of Byzantium and partitioned Dalmatia. The Slavland province is in open revolt. The fact that it is bordering Dalmatia is making it very easy for the Dalmatian and Slavland rebels to cooperate together. It is not yet known how strong the rising Slavic militia is.

Austria’s fight to help its Slavic ally has ended, it looks like, in defeat of Austrian forces. With the element of surprise they had when they first attacked Rome clearly gone, the small Austrian army is no match for the overwhelming numbers of Roman troops, despite technological equality. Much of Austria has been occupied by the Roman Army. The Austrian troops that survived Rome’s counter-attack have pulled back all the way to Vienna to defend the capital. The Austrians abandoned their financial-improvement program to bolster the Army just before the Roman counter-attack into Western Austria, so there may be some chance of turning the war around.
AUSTRIA: -500 troops
ROME: -300 troops

Portugal has been invaded by the Dutante Alliance. The seemingly-invincible thrust to liberate southern France has spilled into the Iberian Peninsula itself. It is in Portugal, however, that the Dutante forces face much more hardened and determined Portuguese military force, and heavy losses are inflicted, though much of the Mediterranean coast and some central land is occupied anyway. The blockade of Portuguese coasts by Eire’s navy is also hurting Portugal’s economy and trade.
The Portuguese population is also troublesome for the Dutante Alliance. They, unlike the southern French, care who rules them because they have always been, without question, Portuguese and have considered themselves members of the nation of Portugal. Civilian sabotage is focused very much on the pre-war Franco-Portuguese border, to damage supply lines.
PORTUGAL: -850 troops; -140 ships
EIRE: -900 troops; -50 ships
BELGIUM: -150 troops
FRANCE: -250 troops

The Fez Sultanate has occupied Tangier. Portuguese losses were pretty bad here.
PORTUGAL: -300 troops
FEZ: -150 troops

In the midst of all this war, Eire manages to establish a trade route with far-off Crimea. It is primarily a land route, with, of course, the exception of the naval connection between Eire and the continent.
Since it’s mainly passing through pro-Eire countries and Slavic lands – Slavs being anti-Rome and, since Eire was also trying to speak on Dalmatia’s behalf, quite friendly towards Eire as well – it is technically a very safe route. However, even the most friendly nation cannot guarantee that some renegades and mercenaries and bandits won’t disrupt the routes, and since it’s a very long way to go – literally across the whole continent of Europe – this is the riskiest trade ever established.

The Philippine Islands have been occupied by Vietnam. Malaysian ships have blockaded the Islands to prevent return of Nihonese Navy. Also, Malaysian troops have crossed the demarcation line that was agreed upon long ago that divided Borneo into western Malaysian and eastern Nihonese portions. Since they know well about how to move about through the jungles of Borneo, the Malaysians aren’t having that much trouble.
But on Borneo, the Nihonese Army is fighting very fiercely. So only frontier regions have been taken.
Also, after seemingly staying mum about the invasions of the Philippines and re-conquest of Taiwan, the Nihonese have unleashed their fury upon Shanghai, Fuzhou, and Vietnam. Nihonese Navy has attacked the port cities and navies of Shanghai and Fuzhou, and are not far away from making a move on Vietnam and Occupied Philippines.
The Nihonese ships have proven their superiority. Their main naval challenge is Malaysia. A naval showdown between the two has yet to occur, but when it does, it will have been long-awaited and may decide whether Nihon will rule the region, or whether a balance of power will be achieved. It should be noted, though, that the Shanghai and Fuzhou navies are both sizeable, as well, and if they manage to coordinate tactics, they can, together, successfully challenge the experienced Nihonese fleets.
Beijing and Korea have not sided with anyone yet. However, fishermen of both countries have sighted Nihonese ships near their coasts. Nihon may be trying to coerce the two countries into either siding with it or at least remaining neutral in this Great Orient War.
NIHON: -550 troops; -12 ships
SHANGHAI: -40 ships
FUZHOU: -60 ships
VIETNAM: -100 troops
MALAYSIA: -300 troops

Southern traditionalists increase agitation for stopping Quetzalism, but the Emperor is clearly more pro-Quetzalistic and encourages the spread of the monotheistic faith.

From Austria
To Eire:
We need your help now. If Rome succeeds with destroying us, they will turn to help Portugal and destroy your efforts to free France as well. There is no more time for negotiating and “persuading” you to help us. We have nothing to offer you, and will not offer you anything, honestly. If you do not send whatever kind of help you can – be it financial or military – then we prophesize that Rome will turn on you and your troops.

From Hungary
To Dacia and Byzantium:
NAP?

HUNGARY AND SLOVAKIA; HUNGARY AND AUSTRIA; HUNGARY AND SILESIA SIGN MPPs (individual, bilateral agreements).

OOC
I accidentally made Israelite Medina and Mecca. Now that wouldn’t be a mistake if not for the fact that Yemen already controlled that area. But by the time I realized this, I had already done so much of the rest of the map update that it would have been a total waste to exit out of Paint w/o saving and re-enter and restart. So you got pretty lucky with that one, Israelite.

Orders are due Tuesday morning by 10:00 AM Central Time Zone – US. After that time, I will no longer accept orders and/or order-changes, since I will be doing the update offline throughout the day.

To Brandenburg
We wish to offer you membership into the Dutante Alliance to assure the safety of part of your borders in addition to mutual survival against the Roman threat.

To Rome
Abandon your campaign against Austria and return her rightful borders or feel the strength of Eire come crashing down upon you.

To Austria
We will do what we can and see what happens.

OOC: Great update, I understand about your grandmum's situation with the doctors though. I was just noticing that the Aztecs go unchallenged what-so-ever in their current location while everyone else is facing multiple enemies.

We leave Austria only if you abandon your campaing against Portugal. Remember, Austrians themselves started this war, we had no intentions to start war with them. For such a treason what they did we will take our revenge...

@ Kamilian, what are those three nations north from Austria?

Kamilian... how long does it take for roads to be built? I've had build orders for roads the last two turns. Just curiosu. Good update.

Emperor Ixamet gazed fiercely at the two men bowed before him, awaiting his judgement. To his right was Ehecatl, the Blood Priest of the Quetzalists. A powerfully built man, he represented the growing, and sometimes fanatical, movement of the disciples of Quetzalcoatl to the North. Next to Ehacatl was Xilonen, the Priest of the Old Religion (as it was beginning to be called). A small, thin, wiry man, Xilonen led the fight against the acceptance of Quetzalism. It was because of these two men that Emperor Ixamet found his glorious empire on the edge of a religious civil war.

What to do? His predecessors had set the wheels in motion, most notably with the construction of the Shrine to Quetzalcoatl in the Palace City Tenochtitlan. And, more recently, the last Toltemec Emperor had spent massive amounts of Imperial gold on temple libraries to help spread acceptance of Quetzalism. It was working, too, but too well, and too quickly. A rift was forming within his people, threatening the stability of Azteclan.

Ixamet cleared his throat. "It is my duty in the name of all Gods to protect and lead the Aztec people. The situation before me is not one that please me, nor do I think it pleases the Gods. What have you to say, Ehacatl?"

Blood Priest Ehacatl rose and began speaking. "Emperor, the people are themselves choosing to worship Quetzalcoatl above all others. The will of the people is the will of the Gods. There is no need for violence or separation amongst our Empire, merely a need for acceptance of what is already truth."

"And you, Xilonen?"

Xilonen rose, casting a sideward glance at Ehacatl. "Emperor, it is foolish to abandon the True Ways of ALL the Gods. It is a precarious balance we find ourselves in, with appeasement to all the Gods necessary to prevent the destruction of all. Devotion to one over the others is ensuring the Empire will never again have favor, and will be destroyed in the next cycle. It is imperative we not lose focus, lest the Gods lose focus on us."

Ixamet turned his thoughts inward, looking for a solution, hoping the Gods (any of them) might provide an answer. Surely, even with Quetzalism the other Gods were honored, just not to the same degree. The Old Ways were not being forgotten, just modified. And, Quetzalists still comprised a relatively small portion of the population. Surely both could exist with the other, with the proper incentive?

"You shall each become my advisor, and both beliefs shall become of genuine interest to the state. The people will believe what they want to believe, but most still follow the ways of the many Gods. It is my decree that both religions will be equally tolerated, and any who violate this will answer to the Gods atop the Temple with their heart."

From Eire
To Rome
In our war, Portugal is the aggressor. In your war, you were the aggressor. We have the abilities to fight a two front war and are not afraid to do so. You provoked Austria by invading Dalmatia, claiming they were stealing your trade even though they had no extra profits. Your imperialistic actions are not acceptible and will be stopped.

To: Eire
It doesn't matter who was the aggressor, we pull back from Austria only if you pull back from Portugal. And best to speak, Are you not conquering Portuguese territory right now? You have repelled them from France, and their military is only a fraction from what it was. There is no other reason for you to continue war but your own greed...

Um, who does Malaysia have contact with now? Are we reaching a point where most nations have all heard of each other?

From Eire
To Rome

We sugest you think first before you speak. You talk of how we are conquering Portugal, which we have a right to due after they practically annialated France. Austria defeated very few of your armies, and now not only have you repulsed their attack but have taken nearly all of their homeland! This is truly a case of the pot calling the cauldron black. This is our last attempt at peace, if you do not withdraw from Austria their shall be dire consequences on your part.

On Balism and Demosism

When Balism first appeared in Malaysia, it rapidly spread for over a century, unhindered by minor local beliefs, which disappeared under it. But its uncontrolled expansion was to meet its match. In Brisbane, on the western coast of the Australian continent, the religion of Demosism rose. It primarily preached the importance of Democracy, among other things. It spread, over Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea. Outsiders braced themselves, preparing for a massive religious conflict.

But it never came.

Balism preaches the existence of a holy balance between the three powers of the universe: Power, in the physical world; Wisdom, in the mind; and Emotion, the force that tied everything together.

When Demosism became the main belief in the lands not yet converted to Balism, the current high priest said the immortal words, "If they preach the greatness of representation and equality, then should they like it or not, they are like a cell of Balism, promoting the goodness that preserves the balance. We have no need to quarrel with them."

So a huge conflict was averted. A little bit of each religion spread to each other's lands, but they generally kept separate. A small portion (less than 1%) of Malaysians believe in the ideals of Demosism, but also worship the balance, for the two religions preach similar messages.

At the present, Balism's spread seems to have slowed. Malaysia is not currently focusing its efforts on spreading Balism, but on the war with Nihon. But when Nihonese cities are captured, conversion will always occur.

Chairman Leonard Tzined was usually a calm man. In his fifties he had seen all aspects of life, both good and bad. He had seen war, he had been in the frontline when the war against Dalmatia had started. Now he was the Chairman of the Imperial Parliament. He had been a Slav but he had changed his home province to Byzantine once the unrest had started.

Even then, when he abandoned his former senate, he had remained calm. Because of this character and because of these actions, emperor Leo III had taken him under his wings. After Leo died, emperor Aristos I received a lot of information on how politics work from Leonard Tzined and now he had became the chairman of the Imperial Parliament.

And for the first time in his life, he was about to lose his calm.

"Where are you going? This.. this is OUTRAGEOUS!" yelled Chairman Tzined.

His yell did no good: members of Slavland were walking out of the Imperial Hall. It had been a strange session from the start; at first the Imperial Messenger had asked the chairman to start the session without the emperor being present, which was unheard of, and now this! No wonder Tzined's heart was beginning to bounce a little too fast.

After Slavic Parliament Members had left, emperor Aristos I entered the room.

"Betrayal", he started. He then took a pause and looked at the eyes of all MP's. He took a closer look to the eyes of his chairman. There was great respect in his eyes, as if he wanted to say: "thank you, for not joining these idiots even though you were also born as a Slav".

Then he continued to talk.

"Complete betrayal.

What has started as an unrest had developed into an outrageous rebellion.

Therefore, I'm stating new rules regarding this Imperial Parliament, and most especially regarding the Slavs.

1. The Slavic Senate is no more. I do not recognize it as an institute.

2. Because the Slavic people have taken arms against their legal government, they cannot be allowed to keep their citizenship. Therefore Slavland can never have a senate until this citizenship has been restored to them, and Slavs will not be allowed to vote unless they're given a special permit.

3. Chairman Tzined will be given this special permit, for he has proven his trustworthyness.

4. As of this moment, the Slavland province no longer exists as a province. It will be united with Thracia and Thracia will get their seats in the Imperial Parliament. New Parliamentary elections will be held in Thracia next week to fill out the missing spots of the members who just left the Imperial Hall."

After saying this, the emperor left the hall.

"I wonder", the Chairman wondered, "if the emperor refused to come to this session in time because he simply did not want to be in the same room with those Slavic scumbags who marched out of the Imperial Hall.."

Chairman Tzined was correct, as usual.
