Don't know if poll has been done before, but I am curious.

Stone or Marble?

You can only have one, which one is going to be?

I d take Marble for the extremely important GL/NE GScientist farm + easy HE for fast troop production. Everything else I could live without. Pyramid is awesome but the chance of getting it is very low.

Prefer stone as mentioned in the other thread, but both are really really good.

Would personally rather have marble, but stone is great for getting Maoi Statues up fast.

Depends upon the leader, really. Different leaders suggest different strategies.

Isabella and Gandhi, for example, I would prefer to have stone with. Isabella for her citadels, and Gandhi for Pyramids enhanced specialists.

OTOH, Huayna Capac or Julius Caesar would be better off with marble. HC for a Great Library/National Epic city, as well as for the Heroic Epic.

Stone. I want Pyramids! :D (I don't usually bother with GL and stuff, too busy knocking heads ;))

Marble is nice, but Stone is more important for me. Stone wonders are usually more expensive to build. Even West Point can take ages to build without stone.

I voted stone. The pyramids are very powerful and usually popular for the AI also.

The important marble wonders such as GL, NL, HE are on a tech route the AI usually delays, so I'll get first crack at them anyway.

I vote stone as well for the reasons that MadScientist gave. Getting stonehenge with a non-creative leader or the great wall on a semi-isolated start are often early wonder priorities for me lately

In my capital, stone, because it has the most potential early on, because of stonehenge and the mids. But I'd rather have marble if I'm going to have to settle a city to get it because it's more useful during the middle of the game because of GL.

If within the reach of my capital or the first city I found, definitely stone. Otherwise, not so sure... probably marble as I might miss crucial wonders if I wait until I hooked up stone.

Stone, because The Pyramids is by far the best wonder in the game.
Also, sometimes The Great Wall is REALLY good to get.

Is not like you can choose... If you got both - great. Usually you don't, so grab what you can.

I agree with you. The 'mids are my favourite wonder by far and the GW is always nice (and sometimes life-saving). I'd also pick stone since all the really early wonders (Maybe not the GLH, I'm not sure about that one since I rarely build it) use stone and early on production is an issue, so anything helps. Marble Wonders (for me that usually means the GL) come later and you'll be better suited with production sites by that time.

Still, either one is nice and I don't see them nearly as often as I would like too.

Stone
Stonehenge, Great Wall and Pyramids are all useful wonders and all available really early. The AI seems to build SH and GW quite quickly so stone is useful here.
The Oracle I can usually build even if I don't have marble (assuming I go for Priesthood early) and by the time I'm building the Parthenon or GL my cities are more productive and I sometimes have mathmatics to make chopping more efficient.

It strongly depends on your situation and strategy, but I voted for stone as you can mostly get the marble wonders even without marble, while stone is more essential for things like SH, GW or pyramids

Stonehenge, pyramids, hanging gardens, university of sankore, spiral minaret...

I like both but recently I've been more happy about stone.

Depends also which religion you have. The cathedrals require copper, marble or stone.

Marble for speedy GL and oracle slingshot. Also gives bonus to NE and possible parthenon for even more GPP. Stone is nice to obviously but of less importance for me.
