STR-01: The Scorched Lands

I will post up some relevant screenies and my attempt at calculations to show how long it would take to be able to introduce Mr G to the wrong end of our Arsenal.

Critical Path

1.Is research Physiscs then Bee-line through Fission. ( :science: emphasis)
2. Build Manhattan Project ( :maximize :hammers: in top producing city)
3. Build an Arsenal. ( maximize :hammers: in top 3 or 4 cities?)

This will let Strauss join in the debate and more expert people correct my calculations as this is one aspect of the game I am crap at

The New And Much Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> on auto-skip until July 28th
2) Ralph_Jackson --> came up with an evil plan for World Conquest
3) Pvblivs --> UP!
4) Kanga_DU --> on deck
5) princecharles
6) blastoidstalker

I agree with the nuclear option.
When we are about to nuke we should have our caverly sitting in Cyrus's lands. Once we nuke we should rush them in and pilage and take out any vulnurable cities.

Ok Consensus seems to be the aggressive option.....

Current Status

I think this shows why we need something radical to get anywhere

So what is our capacity? Currently it looks like

2prodn.jpg

Now if we switch all cities with meaningful :commerce: over to building :science: then we can boost our sustainable research up to about 950 :science: per turn this gives us a road map of

1. Burn GS against Physics leaving us about 1200 :science: to finish = 1.5 turns

2. Electricity = 10090 :science: = 11 turns

3. Fission = 12233 = 12.5 turns

total 25 turns .
Manhattan Porject is 2250 :hammers: which if we swicth to Bureacracy raises :hammers: in our capital from 90 to 135 so reducing it from 25 turns to 17 making it worth taking the 2 turns of Anarchy now...

Now to build Nukes we need to in parallel research Artillery 8970 :science: which is say 10 turns ( capital no longer building :science: ) then Rocketry 11200 :science: 13 turns so we will be able to build Nukes after about 48 turns
Then each nuke costs 750 :hammers: so in our best cities it will take us about 35 turns to build a MAD Aresnal. Will Gandhi have either secured SDI or Non-Proliferation by then who knows....

So skilled people out there apply some :smoke: detection before we commit to this path.

Now having thought yesterday this was the only option I realised I had been on the :smoke: and we do have a plan B.

This is

1. PA with JV, looks very acheivable to me...

2. At this point the commerce / hammers gap with Gandhi is a lot smaller and I think domination is eminently achievable.

Though

Strauss as independent arbiter has to tell us if it in the spirit of the game and let us know what are we allowed to e.g

3. Gut cyrus' defenders and let JC take the city to push us up the domination scale....

I am serious about Plan B so hopefully Publius will forgive me for missing my promise to play tonight as I genuinely think we are at a cross roads and Plan B subject to Strauss will turn this into a win!!!

Strauss said:
However, we must win by conquest.

This rules out a PA of course. I guess the only way to win this is the Nuclear Plan.

Now if we switch all cities with meaningful :commerce: over to building :science:

I thought it were shields that were converted to beakers when building Research? I know that's true with culture, I'm not sure about this one. Also, does the 10% Free Religion bonus also count for 'production research'? If so, did you already include that in your calculations.

if we swicth to Bureacracy

We can't: we have to stay in Vassalage:(. However, if we have Police State (did we get Communism/Fascism?) military units will be built faster (25% I think), I assume nukes are considered military units.
We also have Slavery, which in our biggest cities *could* save us valuable turns and give us 3-4 nukes relatively quickly. Our cities will then be pretty much useless of course, but we're not in a situation for long-term city development planning right now of course;).

Will Gandhi have either secured SDI or Non-Proliferation by then who knows.....

SDI is a realistic possibility. Since we have the biggest population, there is a chance that we could revoke the Non-Proliferation Treaty though. Or perhaps, with the the help of Julius, become secretary-general of the UN ourselves and completely ignore the Non-Proliferation. There might even be some helpful decrees from the UN like Single Currency, giving us extra trade and thus extra research.

I also think you should look to micromanage a bit, perhaps scientist specialists will help, especially with the 10% FR bonus.

Two things to remember for Ralph and actually everyone playing from now, if we go with the Nuclear Plan:
- Do not forget the variants. I can't check the game myself now of course, but I've got the feeling that we've missed switching to some variant civics. Ralph, please check the variant list again and then look if we've switched to all required civics. The only acceptable victory is still conquest.
- Except the variants, everything must be sacrificed to achieve the victory. Strip our cities bare, starve our people if need be to complete our Nuclear Arsenal.

BTW, sorry for posting Pvblivs as up. For some reason I got the idea that you had already played. And since internet went down 2 seconds after my post, I wasn't able to check.

Now after a PA JC and our civilisation are considered 1 in all respects in the game so that we would only need to eliminate Cyrus and JC and would get a conquest win, the big problem is we would hit the domination limit whilst wiping out Gandhi I think...

So do we still rule out the PA ??

Sorry about the typo I meant switching :hammers: to research but my finger slipped.

You are right about requiring to stay in Vassalage but that doesn't dent the Nuclear plan too much, unfortunately we haven't got Police state available so we cant get that bonus.. I did try and include the 10% free religion bonus but wouldn't claim my calcs are that accurate

Well, we could go that way, although it's not in the spirit of this SG, since we are supposed to raze every foreign city. So I would still rule out the PA.

OKey Dokey I will play down the non-PA Nukey path described earlier!!

Ralph

Ok a very brief report as not much happened!!

Followed the Nukey Path as discussed earlier

1. MM to boost research as far as possible
2. Burned GS on Physics
3. Pillaged around Cyrus and encouraged JC to take his cities but he is ***** footing around....
4. We have researched Physics and Electricity and will get Fission in 10 turns at which point we can go to the Manhattan Project.

Currently prodcuing 992 :science: per turn so slightly ahead of our projection.

JC will trade us 1800 Gold + either Constitution or Communism for Electricity. The 1800 Gold would bring in Fission in 7 turns so may be worthwile, next player to decide

The New And Much Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> on auto-skip until July 28th Buit keeping us in the spirit of the SG
2) Ralph_Jackson --> Nearly wimped out of going the Nuclear path
3) Pvblivs --> UP!
4) Kanga_DU --> on deck
5) princecharles
6) blastoidstalker. May get to press the big red button!!

Pvblivs? Hellooooooo.... anyone home? :mischief:

It is over 24 hours by my reckoning, however I'm out of town for a couple of days and princecharles is OOP, so I'll suggest that the first to post a got it of Pvblivs or Blastoid is up.

Pvblivs? Were you aware that you were up?

Anyway, it's been almost 72 hours by now, so Kanga_DU is UP now.

Aaaaaargh! Noooo!

Ralph, you're insane to give us such a brief report? I thought you were just giving us some options and would have to play anyway. I just wanted to skip YOU :) No, to be honest somehow I seem to have replied to an outdated post on monday and thereby didn't read all the new ones.

I (could have) got it now and (would) play this evening (if you don't mind).

Very well then. But there will be no more tolerance for such inaccuracies! The next one to miss his turn will be tied to a nuke.

Please please, tie me to the first nuke, o great Khan. It would be SUCH great an honor if it would be done by you!

Btw. How is your next computer doing? :)

My next computer? Why would I buy a new one? This one cost me 200 guilders in 1996!

[/Uncle Scrooge]

My computer was fixed on the day I went on holiday. The motherboard had broken down. I assume it's alright at the moment, though it must be feeling lonely

Those turns were quite lazy ones until, well until something unexpected desastrous happened. What exactly it is you'll read when it is time for it to tell :)

1890
Nothing happened at all. Well, I just hit enter and didn't care about helpful advices in this initial turn.

1891

Civ4ScreenShot00002.JPG

Umm... well, we don't care, do we? No, that's not the desaster :) But actually, we did some nice work in the "new world" our grand fathers would be proud of:

Civ4ScreenShot00012.JPG

Then I realized that technology process wasn't satisfying me that much, so I dialed up our imperialistic friend.

Civ4ScreenShot00023.JPG

I decided to take the Biology and not Communism or even Constitution  The first one is simply too expensive for us to research and opens up some other nice parts.

1892

Then this happened...

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot00041.JPG

I hope, you were expecting this. I reduced the defenses of Mycaenean to a minimum. Hopefully, our ally will build us a bridgehead there :hammer:

A year later...

Civ4ScreenShot00062.JPG

:band:

Another year later we renegotiated some troops which are now all stationed here:

:borg:: "Sir, do you really want our fleet to leave for the new world?"
