STR-02 English Astronomers

Could that Copper be in a worse place? Well yes, it could have been in the desert, but this still pretty much sucks. On the other hand, at least we have some copper.

I agree with Kanga's city placement (it's not really a DOTmap) in the east. I'm not completely sure about the west, I think the Marble city should be moved back to where Bede suggested, the northwestern city moved 1 NE from Kanga's position, and then we'll be able to crowd an extra city in there (grabbing Corn + Copper). I think that, considering the variant, we need to optimally use the space given to us.

On the Oracle, I don't think whipping with 2 turns left is necessary. However, we did miss Hinduism by 1 turn....;) But I think we're safe.

Foolonthehill is UP! now (20 turns).

Try this on for size

I think every town gets at least one food and one production bonus plot this way. And everybody gets some coastline

And by all means spend the pop to nail The Oracle. That one turn of anarchy could make the difference.

For some reason, imageshack isn't keeping my images tonight, so I will have to do this without the pretty pictures.:p

Okay, here we go!

Inherited Turn 1600BC - I don't mess with nothin'

Turn 1 - Animal husbandry completes and I get a shock. I don't see metal casting on the research list!! I check the manual and then check what we have researched. Somewhere down the line, we missed potter which apparently is a requirement for MC. (Need both BW and Pottery). Hmm. With the Oracle scheduled to complete in 1 turn, the best tech we would get from the Oracle is Monarchy. So, I decide to MM the research time for pottery to 6 turns and put a settler in the queue ahead of the Oracle. We are very early to complete the Oracle and I think we have time. I've not seen the AI build it before 1300BC.

Turns 2-6 - Keep on truckin' :goodjob:

Turn 7 - 1390BC - Pottery completes. Start Sailing, switch back to Oracle.

Turn 8 - 1360BC - Here is where I would have had a pretty picture. Oracle completes!! Choose Metal Casting as the free tech.

Turn 9 & 10 - Yawn.

Turn 11 1270BC - Finish warrior (was starting to see a couple of Barbs). Switch back to settler.

Turn 12 & 13 - Yawn.

Turn 14 1150BC - Judaism is FIDL.

Turn 15-17 - Yawn.

Turn 18 1030BC - Sailing completes, Start Iron Working (Feel free to veto this since it will still take 20 turns or so). Settler completes, move to the sheep/copper/corn/deer site from the dotmap.

Turn 19 - 1000BC - Found York at Sheep/Copper/Corn/Deer site southeast of London.

We seem to be off a turn so I stopped at 19 to get us to 1000BC.

Suggestions: I decided to found York to give us another city to pop warriors so London can take a shot at the Collossus if desired. Stonehenge is still only about 10 turns off so we may want to take a shot at it in the next set. I'm seeing an barb Archer to the south that is blocking the copper site. Will probably need a couple of warriors to kill it so the Worker can mine the copper. May want to chop an obelisk to get York's borders to pop if we don't go for stonehenge. That will enable us to bring the copper online.

The barb archer worries me. We need either fogbusters, or a detour to archery since it will take several turns to get the copper and axemen online. With metalcasting out of the way, we may want to research writing, COL. We may still have a chance at Confucianism since London can be MMed to give quite a bit of commerce by working those lake tiles.

Save is attached.

With the lack of happy resources, I'd think we could really use a religion. The oracle should be generating great prophet points, without seeing the tech tree I'm not sure what we might pick up. Oh, and excellent pick up on the Metal Casting tech needs FoolontheHill. :goodjob:

Good job indeed Foolonthehill. Great luck though that AH came in before the Oracle finished .

I won't be able to play my turns however, and I have to put myself on auto-skip until July 28th. My computer broke down yesterday and it probably won't be fixed before I go on holiday:(.

So I guess my 4-man roster experiment has backfired on me. I'll make a call-up in the registration thread for 1 or 2 people to fill in.

That puts in back in my hands unless you want to wait for a response. Can probably whip in ten tonight in any case.

Bede, I'd say your up for now, we can slot any alternates in the end of the roster for now.

Work has interfered with the Civ schedule again. Will get this posted tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay.

Whipped in a warrior at London to protect York from the barb archer. He won his battle and got a woodsman 1 promotion. As soon as he heals send him out to the trees east.

The whip overflow was enough to keep the building schedule and now we have stones in a ring.

And London immediately started a settler which will complete shortly after the whip wears off.

With the discovery of horses that hill site looks even more promising. It relegates the other western sites to fishing villages but it will be a production powerhouse as long as we don't cut the trees down.

Red Dot looks really good indeed! Great resources for both food and production, lots of forests and settling on a plains hill gives a nice early production bonus.

Two questions: What are we researching atm and how many turns did you play?

Ten turns and researching Iron (due in 7)

Ok, then the roster for now is:

1) Strauss - autoskip until July 28th
2) Bede - just played
3) Kanga_DU - UP!
4) Foolonthehill - on deck

I signed Nares up as an alternate (well, at least in my head), so if you're still lurking and want to jump in, go ahead. Since a 5-man roster works better, I'll add you to the roster permanently.

Agree! Nothing wrong with a couple of fishing villages so I would go ahead and make red dot the priority.

What about trying for the Marble with the fourth city? What is everyone thinking about Wonder strategy?

Since we seem to lack workable hills for hammers, then after the Great Prophet Wonders, I think the Great Engineer Wonders would set us up for the future. Great Lighthouse would be a good choice, and the Colussus a distant third. Once we get those down I think the happy gas buildings become important.

I was thinking city four for marble as well FotH, what are others opinions? Useful for the Great Library. Might get to play tonight.

Not you, it's me. Sorry
