STR-06: 3CTCC goes Monarch

Nice turnset Ungy

I also like option 2 more. I think we should build some frigates in the capital while we're waiting for a wonder to unlock

Should play tonight

Option #2 sounds sane. +50% culture in the citiy that builds it still is a killer. More than the a golden age with double GP points would bring, even though a (possible) additional great artist would be +5000 culture.

i think i like option 2 as well, but Publius makes a good point ~ would we be getting more than 5000 culture points over the rest of the game from the city that builds b'way? I'd have to look at the save to be sure, but at this point, I don't know the answer to that. Maybe I'll have time later today to check it out; if not, i'll do so tonight and see.

AIs didn't stop bothering me about joining them into war. First came Huayna who wanted an ally against Mansa. Come on, he's our best teching buddy.

AIs claimed we were weak and should pay tribute here and then. Hannibal wanted physics, I played the sucker. He also wanted us to join in Mansa dogpiling. Sorry, but sucking up has its limits. Huayna asked next for RP, that's more reasonable and you shall have it. The only one lacking it was Justinian and I sold it to him for some coins and a world map. I don't like black corners in the map

Willem wanted a DP. :nono:

I connected our two uranium resources but they don't appear in the trade screen. I don't know why !!

The scientist was burnt on electricity a turn before he was able to finish it and to my surprise, the engineer could finish broadway in 1 turn. That's a cheap wonder.

Sorry fox, I'm still playing movies stealer. I think that option 2 was definitely better because we had the 50% quite quickly and we also had 5 hit musicals. I traded 4 of them right away getting back our whales from Mansa, banana from Huayna, wheat from Justinian and silk from Hannibal. So now we have more health and happiness. This means more artists so I'm quite sure this is far better than getting another artist.

I opened borders with Huayna to monitor any naval preparations. We gave three ship of the line and should get more. I also ordered a couple grenadiers. If we can get steel in a trade, we should do that. This is the best defense against landing parties though we're better off if we can sink the fleet. I got an airship too, man why didn't they implement an auto-recon mission.

Another artist was born so we are stacking three now.

Here's the domestic advisor screenshot.

Note that I set the cities to grow again so there's more raw culture potential here. There are good odds for the upcoming GP to be an artists so this may be wrapped up in less than 50 turns.

Play the sentinel and suck up and we should do fine.

save

got it, and most likely i will not be able to play tonight, but will if i can.

Play nice, give in to bullies (mostly), and make pretty pictures and warriors ~ anything else?

Looking around briefly before I started, I do believe I won't see this game again!

Nothing much happened during the turns. HC has enough on his hands. I gave him 30g hoping it might buy us the 10-turn treaty, but it didn't. After the Grennie at Athens, I went w/another rifle>SotL>rifle>SotLine; othing but airships from Corinth (great use for spying our oceans), and a Gren>Gren from Sparta.

Our research dropped back to 70%, +12 gpt towards the end of my set b/c we were out of money, but other than that ~ it was mostly coffee :coffee:

We should be done in another 40 turns or so.

Culture:
Civ4ScreenShot0001-2.jpg

We have 3 GAs and one more GP coming in a handful of turns, so . . .

And the Illustrious Isle of Greece:
Civ4ScreenShot0002-2.jpg

Got it.

Each GA bomb will yield 6000:culture:, so if used on Sparta, it will shave off 17.8 turns. If used on Athens, will shave off 12.5 turns. So if we use 2 on Sparta and 2 on Athens (assuming we get one more), they would both reach legendary in 31 turns. So, we should try to increase the artists count in Corithn to shave 7~8 turns off, thereby reaching legendary in the same time.

Played 15 turns. Next player should play another 15 (or less) to bring the game to its successful glorious end (provided no DoW).

Spend most of my initial turns checking for trades to take care of happiness issue. Managed to get gold, fur from Jus and Han. No more emancipation problems.

Of all things, we got another GE.

str06-AD1844-GE.jpg

My first reaction was groan, gripe, ... and then decided it was actually a good thing. Just in time for a wonder build. Hence, I immediately look for spare cash to fund 100% research so as to get Radio earlier. Here are the techs I sold.

str06-AD1844-tech-sell.jpg

100% research cut Radio by 1 turn:

str06-AD1849-radio.jpg

I decided that Eiffel is better than Rock'n'Roll ... which gives each city a 50% broadcast tower even before Mass Media (which enables broadcast tower) is available. Thus, the engineer is spent:

str06-AD1851-engineer.jpg

... and some trees were chopped, giving us:

str06-AD1855-Eiffel.jpg

I stopped here. Looking at the culture situation, decided that Corinth is the slowest city, assuming Athens would produce us an Artist in 7 turns. So, I mm'ed Corinth to starve with max artists. The workers should replace the two towns with farms to halt the starvation and maybe even add one more artist.

str06-AD1855-city.jpg

DaVinci painting Mona Lisa in Athens would reduce the turns to legendary by 6000/619 = 9.7. Picasso painting his own Bandaged Ear in Sparta would cut the turns by 6000/489 = 12.2 turns. So 2 GA bombs each in Athens and Sparta would have made Corinth the slowest city.

That is assuming we get the artist in Athens. If we don't, we should settle the last GM, GP, GS in Athens, starve Athens and max out the artists, and use 2 GA bombs on Sparta and 1 on Athens. If we get another GE, he should complete Rock'n'Roll on Athens in 1 turn.

So the game should be completed in 14~20 turns. Have fun.

When spreading the Great Artists around I confused Sparta and Corinth so I had to go a few turns over my 20. I hope Pvblivs doesn't mind me stealing his moment of glory.

In 1873, Valmiki writes his Ramayana in Sparta and the city achieves Legendary Culture, joining its brothers.

:goodjob: to the team for winning this one AND getting it done in time for me to finish it:cool:

Although this game wasn't 'easy', I don't think it was as tough as a regular Monarch game due to our isolated position protecting us from most harm. I'm surprised we never got attacked once we contacted the other continent, especially with Aggressive AI turned on.

:woohoo:

i'm also surprised no one ever turned up on our island at all during the course of the game to settle.

great game all ~ 'twas my pleasure to be a part of this group again, and it's my first monarch agg ai win! :goodjob:

Nice going all!
I have to agree with the sentiment that our isolation made it much easier. Our starting terrain I think was at best average, but being isolated next to Mansa was ideal. Almost too easy. Put us down on a big continent with some warmongers and it's a whole different game.

Kind of surprising that the AI was so far from a launch as well as nobody ever coming for us.

Very enjoyable challenge!

Nice game all  That wasn't as hard as I have imagined, mainly due to the AIs slow tech rate I think. That helped us secure late religions and quite a bunch of wonders. And yes the Malinese guy was a wonderful trade partner. Even with aggressive AI turned on and different religions, he never bothered to attack us.

I hope Pvblivs doesn't mind me stealing his moment of glory.

You're the leader, Strauss. And thus as I would do in every honourable fight under a worthy leader - I lay my sword to thy knees. Such, now that my deadly blow of victory has become yours, we were all winning under your command. :D

Now at this particular best of all moments I want to remember those monarch games we already lost under Strauss. Winning such a variant against an aggressive AI (which up to this moment I didn't really know, so I feel a little bit :yuck: now) with this in mind seems a king among victorious games.
Great game again, team! I'm not a regular player, but this one was a real pleasure!

And in the end - as you all - of course I'd like thank the one true god of randomness and fractal maps for his very well-disposed gift of a BTS SG start.

 The only STR-game that ended up in defeat was STR-01, at Prince....
