STR-07: Chief of the World

Ok I've got it then, main question is do we initiate war with Lincoln now?? Other thannthat it is motoring on towards Mass Mesdia as best we can. I will leave time for teams thoughts and play tonight or tomorrow morning.

Started Saldin and Hannibal to war with Lincoln. Hannibal has captured Boston, each civ has had a GG born.

Sci Meth and Physics in onto Electricity. 2 GS's (one from physics both settled)

Trade Saladin 6gpt for Banana, Gunpowder + 320g for PP to Hannibal.

Both sides have asked to join war with Lincoln early on I declined as was worried about an attack from Lincoln, but he has now moved offensive troops from his city on our east border so we should now be ok to war with him and take out that city.

Roster:
1) Strauss
2) tycoonist
3) Mighty Dwaarf --> just played
4) GreyFox --> UP
5) stuge --> on deck

I don't think we can lose the UN now.

IMHO, it is a diplomatic waste of time (and techs) to get others declare on Lincoln, and yet not agree when we were asked. Not only do we not get anything out of it, we incur a "-1 You refused to help us during wartime".

Well, I declared on the inherited turns, knowing that it won't be too long for Lincoln to roll over and throw the towel. His score has dropped to bottom, and looking at the logs, he lost a few cities already.

Well, at least we get some gold and exp out of this exercise:

str7-AD1710-Houston.jpg

Houston, we have a problem.
...
Houston, come in. Houston, come in please.
...
Houston???

:lol::rotfl::lol:

And just as I am about to yank Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan out of the sleeplessness in Seatte, peace returns, as I predicted.

With that, we'd actually faired worse diplomatically with Hannibal than before the war. So, I had to find some way to amend that. But before that, an artists arrived and was settled. At least that will help to give us some gold.

Now, the matter of Hannibal. Look at the favorite civics:

str7-AD1750-fav-civics.jpg

Hannibal's is Free Market, but he is in Mercantilsm? hmmm .... and if you compare our civics:

str7-AD1750-civics.jpg

There are other civics choices that we can adopt to gain brownie points. But these other civs are currently friendly, so maybe we would change civics on;ly when they start adopting Free Religion.

But I should address Hannibal first. And I did, with this trade:

Let's hope he stay this way.

Roster:
1) Strauss --> on deck
2) tycoonist
3) Mighty Dwaarf

5) stuge --> UP, heading for skip

Roster:
1) Strauss --> UP, playing now
2) tycoonist --> on deck
3) Mighty Dwaarf
4) GreyFox --> just played
5) stuge --> skipped

Quick set of turns. We're 1 turn from Radio, and then 11 more until Mass Media. If we get Cahokia's scientists to start working the mines, the UN should be finished in ~20 turns.

We're friendly with Saladin, Gilgamesh and Charlemagne and Pleased with Hannibal, who is Cautious with our probable UN opponent Willem. This should get us everyone's vote except Lincoln's, who'll probably abstain.

Roster:
1) Strauss --> just played
2) tycoonist --> skipped as noted in a different thread
3) Mighty Dwaarf --> UP
4) GreyFox --> on deck
5) stuge

Roster:
1) Strauss --> just played
2) tycoonist --> skipped until December 4
3) Mighty Dwaarf --> past 24 hours
4) GreyFox --> free to grab it
5) stuge --> no response for some time now, skipped until reporting back in

Hmm ... so we are down to 2 man? :eek:

Looks like it, though I expect at least one player to report back in soon. Since this game is winding down already, I don't think we need to call up another player from outside.

Our diplo takes a hit again:

str7-AD1812-sally-hindu.jpg

I immediately tried to remedy. Recall that Sally has a fav civic of theocracy. So, I made the trade and revolted.

str7-AD1812-theocracy.jpg

It takes a while for the civics bonus to compensate for the lost of +4 religion and gain of -4 heathen ... :gripe: I don't know if we can get sally to friendly again.

We can sign defensive pacts, but I suggest we don't It will hurt our diplo. If we really want to, sign with Sally and Charle only. That should minimize the diplo hit.

We got a scientists, I kept him around to trigger a golden age when we start the UN.

I stopped when Mass Media was in. Trigger the GAge before you hit enter.

Sorry guys I wasnt expecting it to come back so quick I realised this morning at work but was unable to post anything until toinght as cant access civfanatics at work :(. I can take the next slot or play as normal after strauss whichever is ok with you guys.

Completed research of Chemistry and Biology, and got some more techs in trades with William. We also got a World Map, and looking at it, Hannibal might very well be our UN opponent.

We're 2 turns from completing the UN. As for Pleased civs not voting for you for Diplomatic Victory, I don't think this is true. I haven't played/won a 'true' diplomatic victory for a long time, but I believe some civs do vote for you at Pleased: it depends on the leader. The likes of Hannibal won't vote for you, but Willem might. If I'm correct, Dwaarf might be able to finish this up. If I'm wrong, we still have some work to do.

Roster:
1) Strauss --> just played
2) Mighty Dwaarf --> UP
3) GreyFox --> on deck

tycoonist --> skipped until December 4
stuge --> MIA

So near but alas so far,

UN built and we are voted in as UN sec with 469/669 votes all but Linc and Willy (opponent) votes us in.
I get Hanny to change back to free market for 365g so we now have civic bonus again with him, unfortunately we are still only +7 (Pleased) with Sally I have gifted him Bio and coal but that has not gained us "gave help" bonus, so he abstained in the victory vote.
Also on the last turn Charlie adopted Free Religion :cry: we lost +7 bonus there, we need to change to Vassalage to gain civic bonus with him (I have not done this so will need to be done start of next turn) We may also have to sign a couple of DP's to also gain favour.
Hannibal and Lincoln DOW'd on Willem so we may have a new opponent soon who would be Charlie!! He had the next highest number of votes behind Willem only about 7 difference there.
