STR-07: Chief of the World

Let the Great library finish. Built a spy and garrisoned him, then an aqueduct. Cahokia is now size 10 and at the health cap, running two scientists, so the next GP should arrive in less than ten turns. A GP appeared this round and I merged him into the city.

Research: Math-> A couple of turns into currency. Keep your eyes open so we might trade it something cheap.-> CS, 14 turns away.

I traded CoL to Willem for monarchy and switched to HR. And I asked him for corn and he gave it! :D He's also willing to trade stone if we want to try the Hanging gardens, for example. We'd better stay on Willem's good side. He's leading in score and got currency, construction and CS in these 20 turns.

I was a bit worried about that HRE stack on our border, but then Charlie dowed Sumeria and actually captured a city. Cahokia is building a scout so that the next player can amuse himself by watching the fight. Charlie asked us to join the war but I said no. Gilgamesh asked for aestethics and I gave it to him. Easy +1 to relations.

Everyone except Lincoln is now jewish. Let's hope things stay like this.

Our workers are building roads on automation. If you can think of something more meaningful for them to do, halt them by all means. Build forts or something.

Albert Einstein popped up on turn 2 and the next GS popped up on turn 15:cool:. Taoism was founded in the interturn before Albert's birth, but I still lightbulbed Philo for Pacifism and revolted, only to realize it's not much use without a State Religion:smoke:. Now that we're on the subject: I think we should convert to Judaism now, everyone except Lincoln is Jewish now and it'll give us some decent bonuses.
I left the second GS for tycoonist to decide what to do with him: lightbulb Paper (go for Education - Liberalism already?) or build an Academy.

Cahokia is building the National Epic and it'll finish in a couple of turns.

Cahokia was already at its health limit when this happened and I had to change some tiles to keep it from starving. We can get some health resources from the other civs but I felt their offers were laughable.

I don't have any option for showing inter-civ relationships, but we're at Pleased with Lincoln, Gilgamesh (who lost another city to Charlemagne), Hannibal and Saladin and Cautious with Charlemagne (due to our friendship with Gilgamesh).

played 15 turns (i assumed this was the right amount)

i decided to build academy with the scientist:



50% science is huge when it is 50% on to your total base science. academies are often my top priority on OCC.

i then proceeded to convert to Judaism. this earned us a big diplo bonus with most of the world. Washington however likes us less now.

Sorry had played turns but something came up RL so delayed report.

Not much action but, traded for Construction, Compass, Machinary and Feudalism mainly with Sal and Hannibal. Education in onto Libralism approx 6 turns left. We may want to research to within one turn and change as nobody else has education yet. Willem is closest and had finished Nationalism two turns before end.
Globe finished onto Uni. Traded for as much health resources as viable.
2 GS's first settled 2nd left for next player 70 odd gp point per turn really belts them out!! Either settle or save for bulbing.
Charlie asked us to revolt to Vassalage which I agreed to keep up relations with him.

... it is better than bulbing cause OCC's small pop won't give you big amt of beakers. So only bulb for critical race or trade opportunity (neither applicable here).

Got us one more health. As Charle don't want to trade us deer for gold, I have to do it the round about way:

With Liberalism in the bag, I decided that +1 relations for "accept our fav civic" is good enough, thus revolted back to Bureaucracy. Caste got itself a free ride.

Since we only had one remaining tree in our BFC, it has no use. I chopped it and convert it into a farm. Research-wise, I decided to go for Guilds (maybe even try for Economics to get the GM). Prod-wise, we are still building the Oxford. But we are dangerously low on power. Suggest next player to trade for engineering and pump out some maces. A couple of monasteries won't hurt either.

I'll build some military after Oxford is done. The spy was fortified to deter espionage against us.

You guys have excellent chances here. Charlie unfortunately will not make peace--that may change and I would agree with making it your top priority. Keeping Willem as the pop leader is key IMHO. You have caught a good break in that you have 4 co-religionists who all have a different favorite civic--and none are the pop leader. So you can get the civic bonus from all of them.
You should easily build the UN so I would prioritize diplo considerations.

Oxford uni.-> military. That says it all. I mooched horses off Charlie and built some knights too. I focused on the eastern border, because Abe had a big stack floating around there and he isn't too fond of us.

A GP was born and merged.

Worker actions consisted of building roads and a couple of forts.

Tech

Guilds-> banking-> economics. I tried to nab the free GM but Willem beat us there by two turns. :mad: I traded guilds to Gilly for engineering and 120 gold. Yep, believe it or not, that trade was actually in our favor.

I finished economics and switched to free market despite the lost prize. Nationalism was partially researched and traded for liberalism with Willem. We're going for constitution now, on the basis of lots of extra beakers.

Other

I bought pigs from Willem to alleviate the growing health problem. Saladin wanted a few gpt more for his rice. We're now paying him copper and 5 gpt for the freaking sushi ingredient. Bleeding rip-off. Charlie got turned down asking us to attack Sumeria.

I don't know if we can ride this peacefully to the end. Willem could use some razed towns. We have nothing on him and he's up constitution, printing press and democracy in addition to some miscellaneous techs.

Once we get constitution we should go to Representation and Mercantalism combo. We should then move towards Mass Media. A few GS's will help with bulbing Sci Meth and Physics and then GA's help with Electricity Radio and MM. We hopefully may be able to trade these to get towards Rifles or Grenadiers for protection. We will just have to leave Willem as we have no way of curbing his growth as he will wipe us or one of our UN partners out.
 
The reason I haven't posted a 'got it' yet is I fell ill Friday night and went to sleep very early so I wasn't able to roll a start. Saturday night I was going to start the game when I heard my father screaming in anguish and I ran down the stairs to find him in bed having a heart attack. Fortunately he had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator installed 2 years earlier which had been activated, but instead of receiving 1-3 shocks he received 13. The ambulance got him to the hospital and his heart rate stabilized early this morning, so he's ok now, although he'll probably need a new ICD implemented since this one's used up a lot of power (his real fear during the shocks was the ICD running out of power).

Got it for tomorrow, I'm pretty tired now.

Abt the game, I still think we should try to instigate some war between our Jewish brother and one of Williem or Lincoln. Lincoln seems the better choice if we want to cultivate Oranje as the UN opponent.

But our priority is still getting to the UN first. All will be lost if we miss the UN.
 
- Researched Constitution and Printing Press, two turns away from finishing Scientific Method. After that it'll be some 60 turns to get to Mass Media.
- settled Roselind Franklin (GS) and swapped to Representation, increasing our beaker output from ~300 to ~450

They were more demanding when I checked earlier in the set, but this seems acceptable. It's up to the next player to decide though.
