strangest thing ive ever seen

Very old news. There's been a Civ boardgame for years. This is a newer variant, based on C3.

@ Wildfire: Who cares. Colonel was surprised at there being a game at all. That's what I was answering to. Is it based on C3C? It doesn't say anywhere.

It's pretty fun too actually. Though I dont think it's based on C3C.

There already was a board game called Civilization when I was about 12, and I'm 37 now...
Of course, it had nothing to do with Sid's, but maybe Sid took inspiration from it?

If you mean the *new* Civilization game by Eagle Games, i have the box next to me right now :P

I even like the idea of "one tech for all" more than tech trading like in CIV3. SOmeone "buys" the tech others pay 50% of price to that player when buying improvements/units made available by that tech.
Example: Horseback riding allows you to build Horseman units. It costs 10 gold. If you want one, you give 10 gold to bank and bank gives 5 gold to the tech owner. Same is true for every thing you can *build* in the game. Somebody mentioned "war profiteering"? :D

Yes, one of the original inspirations for Sid Meier's Civilization (computer game) was the Avalon Hill board game Civilization (and Advanced Civilization). A few iterations of the computer game gives Civ3. Eagle Games, then, builds a board game based on the computer game. So, it's a board game based on a computer game based on a board game. :boggle:

But Arathorn, you forget that there actually a computer game version of the board game Civilization. I used to play it a lot, the map was bigger (gaul was included up to the brit isles) and trade was different, but it had the Avalon Hill game flavour...
So maybe in fact Sid made a computer game version of the computer game version of the board game version, instead of making a computer game version of the computer game version ? ;)

Nope...the Avalon Hill computer game Civilization very closely modeled on the board game came AFTER Sid Meier's Civilization computer game. The AH version was 1995, which is after Civ I but just before Civ II, as I recall.

Interesting juxtapositions of stuff...:)
