strategic defense

i use this method of strategic defense with bunch of units. musketeers and riflemen,a lthough very good at atttacking should be used this way of strategic defense. instead of attacking the enemy, make them come o you. when attacking an enemy, go ontop of a hill or a river square, then fortify; each turn should be done in a way so that your musketteer or riflemn are never attacking, but rather attacked. when taking a city, you should fortify untis on a strategic enplacement untill the city offers no more units to counter your fight. the enemy would be forced to fight since he won't be getting any resources from taht square... players should realize the value of such strategy

The problem with offensive defenses like this is that the enemy isn't always dumb enough to perform the attacks. Instead, they sit back, or worse, they go around you and hem you in so that you can't go anywhere.
