Guys, I'm not computer savvy at all with gaming. The only games I do play are Settlers of Caatan and Civ3. Now that I've uped to Civ4 I'm having the black tiles problem. I want to use Hoplite21's suggested fix but I have no idea what type of graphics card I have. How can I find out this info?

Right click on your desktop, click Properties, in the 'Settings' tab, it should list your video card's chipset, which is what people mean when they say 'video card', ie. GeForce 6600, GeForce FX5200, etc.

Wow, thanks a ton, I appreciate it. Mine is a Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8X.
Is that an acceptable driver? I have an HP pavillion a430n, amd athlon xp3200+, 2.9 GHz, 1G of ram. I think I'm sufficient on the requirements. Am I wrong?

looks like it, but the video card is on the low-end of the spectrum. first, before updating your driver, find out what version you have and try the other fixes first, there's more than one...in fact, try all of them, i guess including the driver upgrade ones.

to find out the driver version, go Start -> Run, type in 'dxdiag'. it should be listed in the 'Display' tab under 'Drivers'

ok, that's version 66.93 (last four digit). Now that you know what version you have, you can try upgrading drivers in chronological order. You can find all the older versions of the drivers on nVidia website, here. Good luck.
