I've been lurking around on the forums here for a little while, and come across this nifty idea called a succession game. Now, I'm sure that I'm the last one to hear about this, and everyone else already knows all about it, but that's okay.

To get to my point: I was wondering, would anyone care to play a succession game here? I'm not very good, and from what I can tell, playing in a succession game will help me improve a lot (if people talk about strategy at least). So, I wouldn't mind which civ, nor any other conditions. I wouldn't be very helpful on anything better than noble though.

So, what do you guys think?

Current list of potential players:
steel.stiletto
Sureshot
Unser Giftzwerg
Moon Hunter
Oldfrt

Settings:
Difficulty: Prince
Map: Lakes
Size: Standard
Climate: Temperate
Sealevel: High
Speed: Epic
Civ: Tebryn Arbandi (Arcane/Summoner)

And 7 AI's.

All victories enabled.

I'd go ahead and set up a game, but first, does anyone have any input on which civ to play, map settings, difficulty, and other options? Once I get that, I'll go ahead and set it up.

Okay, so now there is also an idea for a FOTM also. I'd like to still do both though. So, playing around with some options, how does this sound?

Difficulty: Prince
Map: Lakes
Size: Standard
Climate: Temperate
Sealevel: High
Speed: Epic
Civ: Tebryn Arbandi (Arcane/Summoner)

And 7 AI's.

All victories enabled.

How does that sound? For the succesion game I mean.

To save me the trouble of looking it up... perhaps you guys could inform me what a succession game is.

One person plays a number of turns, then the other person continues from there for another period?

To start, I (or another person) would upload a save at turn one, and a screenshot of the opening area. Play then goes by one person downloading the save, playing some amount of turns (I'd say 25 or so), and then posting up a summary of what they did and the new save. We'd discuss what we wanted to do, such as military movements and strategies, technoligies, settler placement, and other such things. Then, the next person would repeat the process. Reloading would be frowned upon, as would be playing ahead to get knowledge in advance.

I 'll play. My DSL is unreliable, but I can upload/download savegame-sized files. Multiplayer is a virtual impossibility for me, but I can participte in this. :)

I edited my first post with the possible players. Does anyone else want to join? I'm going to go ahead and make the starting save today or tomorrow if no one else has any suggestions.

Isn't this sort of thing much more fun with 5-6 participants? Seems premature to begin with just three of us? :dunno:

I was just going to make the save. I figure we can still try to recruit before we actually start playing. I think people might be a bit more interested if there's a screenshot up of what we will start with.

Oh, sure, good thinking. That's what I meant. :mischief: Yeah ... that's what I meant.

Ah, so the opening...

Here is our start...

Yay wheat!

And gold also.

Oh, by the way, this was made with 2.0.16f. I'm not sure if it matters the difference. Should we all use patch h though? And can we use this save, or do I have to make a new one...

The patch won't break savegames.

Not a bad starting location. I would play, but unfortunately, I wouldn't consider myself to be too reliable in this sort of thing and I wouldn't want to commit to something that I may not or cannot do. It sounds like a good idea, though.

MrMan: This looks like a simple, open SG. I.e. you just sign up, play the set number of turns when you're meant to play them, and then post the save game at the beginning of the next person's turn. Then you write a little tale about how your turn went, or a turn by turn account, or just the high ponints and what turn they appeared in. Differnt people do it in different ways. Look at some of the Team SG's in the SG forum, if you want to see how we did it.

So, I've never played at Prince, so I'm not sure if I should be the one to start us. But, I do have some questions to ask the more experienced players:

1) There are several goodie huts nearby. Would it be a good idea to send our warrior to some, and our scout to others, or is the benifit of using our scout to open them worth the wait?

2) What should we build first? I get the idea that a worker is bad, because then your city can't grow, but I never know what to build then.

3) What should we research? Agriculture is what I think of off the bat, since we do have wheat right next to us if we decide to put our city here.

4) Should we put our first city here? I mean, it looks like a good place to me, but of course I normally play on the level right below Noble (can't even remember what it is), so my opinion probably doesn't count for much.

This idea is good.... but I would suggest that there is no interaction with the person carrying out their turns... that means you end up with a unique interpretation of things. It also means you are reliant on the notes/message they post about their turns about what they were trying to achieve.
