So, I'm tucked away in my own little corner of the world, having a nice little war with some Heathens... and then FIVE of the remaining seven AI civs declare war on me on the same turn. No vassals; five separate civs. Never seen that many at one time before. What really chaps my ass is that two of the civs are of the same religion as me, and diplomatically, they were at +3 (Washington) and +7 (Ragnar) respectively. What did one AI offer another who is at +7 with me to get him to declare war?

This sounds like an AP holy war was called against you. If a non-member of the AP (meaning, no AP religion in any of their cities) is at war with a member of the AP (full or partial, I believe, meaning at least one of his/her cities has the AP religion no matter how much of an out of the way backwater glorified hamlet it is) the AP resident can call for a resolution to declare a holy war against the non-member. If this resolution passes every AP member, full or partial, is forced to DoW regardless of relations, state religion (AP member means having the AP religion in at least one city, actually running the religion just gives you double votes in resolutions and makes you a possible candidate for residency), or even active peace treaties. Worse, since the non-member don't get to follow any of the AP stuff they won't hear any of it until the entire rest of the world suddenly DoWs them.

Thank you. Yes, I am quite sure that must have been it, as one of them beat me to the Apostolic Palace.
