Just a thought, but now that steam is part of civ, is there a way for a moderator to make a sub forum just for steam, that way the main civ v forum stays clean of steam related threads, and those with real thoughts and concerns(and false thoughts and concerns) can go there to discuss and rant about. Just a suggestion, im kinda over it, but I know many arent, plus it would be easier than closing all steam threads at some point.

I agree. Sub topics need to started ASAP. Even if they are created with a planned EOL (E.G., post release reset). Joseph

Well, as a matter of fact all steam threads go on and on about the same stuff simultaneously, so it would be more logical to just put them all in one thread. Can't imagine there's enough to discuss about steam alone to warrant an entire sub-forum.

I think from now to september, people will be posting and posting about it. Then when the game releases, the flood will come of, steam blew up my pc ect ect threads, and steam works great threads. If we start it now, people will be used to using the sub forum, and I dont have to read it to get to other information. :)

Ergo, a control flag to allow topics / threads to be ignored and not displayed.. Ever! Aaahh.. Modding Civfanatics.com forums.. :)-

I wrote to TF about this, we will discuss it :)

As there is a thread from 2K Greg regarding coming FAQ's about Steam AND Civ5, it seems that at the moment such a sub-forum would make it actually harder to follow the discussion, questions and answers.

Just as an input.

(BTW, I asked about making that thread sticky for at least some time)

As much as I sympathise with the idea of containing the raving discussions, I have my doubts that a steam sub-forum would keep the general forum free from steam discussions. The existence of a dozen threads hasn't kept people from opening a 13th thread with exactly the same questions and/or rants.

Moreover, the steam questions and discussions don't appear to have any durability beyond the game's release. With the FAQ from 2K Greg coming up, there'll be more clarity on what it does and does not do.

Once we have E3 and actually get some new info about the game, Steam threads will be overwhelmed with actual content discussion.

We're just in a lull atm.

I don't see the point yet. There's very little concrete info to discuss about the game yet. Most threads are repetitive due to lack of anything else to discuss. The same threads are rotating on the board due to lack of anything else going on.

I'm looking forward to new info and something else to discuss.

History repeats itself (kinda amusing since it pertains to civ). We saw the same thing before Civ IV came out.

Firaxis is pretty horrible at sharing info, IMO. Their website for Civ IV was pitiful (and didn't even exist til late in the game's dev cycle or release and was incomplete for ages). The Civ 5 site is up earlier this round but about as equally useless. They don't give out much info. They don't have their own forums or official reps anywhere (2K marketing people aren't Firaxis reps).

Most of the better info we got before Civ IV's release came from beta testers and such who were allowed to share. Sulla's walkthrus and such (hopefully we see something similar and SOON).

You could understand the lack of info if it was because everything civ is disected, debated, and shredded at sites like this - and releasing any info early will cause near riots, but I don't think that's why Firaxis witholds info, I just think they're oblivious and out of touch with what most developers are doing with web presence these days.

What is or isn't a Steam thread? I already have Steam on my machine and I've learned to live with it. I accept the need for some kind of copyright security. I have big issues with two versions of the game pre-release, and the implications for modding, the status quo at CFC, etc.
