Suggestion for Man'o'war Ships

so a Satyr's Mesmorize Animal spell also works on Sea Drakes, Giant Tortoises, and other such sea creatures??? if so I will have to try it soon.

// Maybe make the Man O' War a national unit, also require mithril resource to build, and start with Fire Resist? then take the mass producible version which requires gunpowder only, and call it a gunboat?

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that your idea was without merit. I was just pointing out that there is a way to do that now.

Well, I think NeOmega has a nice idea with a minor sea-animal summon for the OO. I would suggest (well anything that fits, wether a minor "sea squid" or something more sinister, or more shark-like, or even fish-men-things) ... something of weak-ish strength, perhaps 4 or 5 strength. Marskman ... since they are attacking from the depths or what not. Probably Ocean Stealth ... being that they can cast the Hide spell on water tiles ... of course they become visible after attacking, similar to Ghosts. Also, a certain degree of Collateral Damage. Perhaps not as much as a Catapult, although a significant amount, maybe 30% collateral damage or some such, at a maximum of 50% collateral (or up to 75 if we want the Collat Damage to be some-what equal to the Tsunami spell, which is of course understandable).

So basically its a hidden under-sea unit which can attack smaller, weaker ships, and will cause some collateral to other ships in the fleet in the process.

Does anyone else think this Idea has some Merit? I'll admit it has roots in my initial Ideas for Aiphon specific spells, however (especially if its a Lovecraftian creature) it could fit as an OO replacer, or additional spell, as well.

In fact, I think it might be a better deal if Cultists get this spell, and Speakers get Both Tsunami and Summon Kraken. (also if Krakens are invisible, with marksman and have the Mask Spell ... thatll be nice)

Anyone else share my thoughts? This will allow for the OO to be more sea-based and less coastal, in my opinion ... which is partially why I initially formulated the Idea for the Aiphons civ.

Tasunke, I think that unit proposed by You should either have marksman promotion, OR cause rather high collateral damage. With marksman, I would rather advocate 10% collateral

Yea ... I know what you mean by it being seemingly overpowered. However, when considering the Tsunami alternative ... its a pretty good deal ;D

Some real naval collateral would be nice, and a bit more of a naval game would be cool. If there is a naval marksman should there be some kind of naval guardsman? Perhaps something really slow (base 1 movement) so you would be inclined to risk it?

Actually, that made me think of something else. (Not to negate your suggestion, Tlalynet, or as an alternative, but rather as a seperate concept.) Perhaps Water Elementals should have the equivalent of Guardsman when in Water tiles. It makes sense to me that a Water Elemental in water could almost instantly interpose itself between friendly units and an attacker. On land they would naturally be much less maneuverable and so that ability would probably not make as much sense.

Actually that negates my suggestion pretty well, the guardsman unit should be hard to get and limited, water elements fit that perfectly. Plus it would protect water walking mage\archmage stacks from sea marksmen attacks.

It would be way over powered if they could do it on land, I agree to that too.
